    Hi Armatage Candle Company!
    Thank you for this video it REALLY helped us. We are some quite beginners in Hungary, making soy wax candles and we were worried about this so called frosting.
    What do you think about adding stearin to soy wax? I read that it makes soy candles more dense and raising its viscosity (but we dont know if its a good or a bad thing). We are hoping that this stearin can solve frosting or maybe 70-80% of it.
    Thank you for your reply in advance

    • @ArmatageCandleCompany
      @ArmatageCandleCompany  Před 3 lety

      Unfortunately, frosting comes with the territory. You can do a little to mitigate it, but it will always show up in soy wax candles eventually.

    At what point after pouring do you think you are in the clear from severe frosting?

    • @ArmatageCandleCompany
      @ArmatageCandleCompany  Před 3 lety +3

      Frosting really comes down to keeping your temperatures as stable as possible after pouring. It's technically unavoidable, but after two weeks in a stable environment you'll have a decent look at what that candle will look like.

    I’m super confused with my candles. If I pour it with a high temp there is some frosting on 3 out 5 candles. If I pour at low temp there is going to be 5 out 5 frosting 😢
    I keep them in the same place, don’t move them at all but next day I will come up to check on them and see the frosting
    I understand myself that frosting is not a big deal and doesn’t effect the smell or burn of the candle but I don’t think customers might understand that

    If Soy is blended with Coconut, does it still frost over?

  • @Jess-vk6mp
    @Jess-vk6mp Před 3 lety +4

    Is there any soy wax blends beside soy and paraffin you’d recommend? I want to use as much natural products in my candles I can and avoid paraffin. But I also have issues with soy only wax sometimes. Especially for jar candles. I don’t have problems with frosting but I do have issues with adhesion and sometimes dips in the center of my candle. No sinkholes though. I’ve tried heating up the glass before pouring and that helps but if I’m doing more than a few candles it’s difficult to do that. I’m wondering if a soy blend would be easier to work with.

    • @ArmatageCandleCompany
      @ArmatageCandleCompany  Před 3 lety +2

      Certainly - you can blend with any wax you want and see how it behaves. A few other non-paraffins you should try are Palm, Beeswax, or coconut. As with everything candle making, make sure to test whatever you do in the conditions you expect to use them (fragrance, container, etc). Best of luck!

    • @ArmatageCandleCompany
      @ArmatageCandleCompany  Před 3 lety

      Great question - making a smaller candle in the same vessel is definitely okay. It helps to streamline testing since it shows you what the burn will kind of be like in that lower area of the candle. My only caution is that if it goes well, I wouldn't accept that as your "sign off" test. I always prove it by making a full candle of that same design and running it through the industry standard test requirements laid out by ASTM 2417. But... if you're just making it for non-selling purposes then anything goes, I suppose! Hope that helps.

    • @ArmatageCandleCompany

      Unfortunately, frosting is unavoidable. I'd probably try adding some paraffin to your blend if you can. Even if you find a good pouring temp that agrees with your design, eventually it will frost again. Just the nature of a hydrogenated vegetable oil (soy wax). I wish I had better answers for you!
