Melveen Leed’s music career spans over five decades and has taken her around the world. However, in many ways, she says she’s still “da tita from Moloka‘i.” She opens up about life’s challenges: a childhood spent in two households and on two islands, a “nightmare” performance in Russia, and why she’s found a new sense of peace and personal happiness in her life.
This was so Melveen and it did bring tears. Aloha
Hey Melveen, your mother was the sweetest Kupuna on the Aloha Friday table at the Hotel Molokai. For 4 years I got to share a beautiful time watching here smile and sing. Now I live 2 doors from Aunty Karen. Thank you for this insightful moʻolelo of your history of the Place ʻOhana. You are as sweet and lovely as your beautiful Mother.
Thank you also for contribution to Hawaiʻiʻs music. May you continue your endeavors in music. Authors, Poets and Philosophers will someday pen your legacy with pure words yet to be uttered. God bless you.
