    For those of you who havnt explored the pleasure of air mattress use you will find that an air mattress will never get a leak during the daytime hours. They will only leak when you finally fell asleep from exaustion in the middle of the night. Usually in environments where lighting is at a minimal lumen and they love to get soggy in the great outdoors when its cold and rainy.

    WHAT WORKED FOR ME.
    On a deflated mattress I found the hole and I took piece of plastic bag and pushed it in the hole to be the backing of the hole.
    I had regular nail glue and I squeezed it in the hole to fuse the plastic bag to the back of the hole.
    That fusing allowed the slit( shape of the hole) to stick together as well.
    I had flex seal clear in my cupboard and I sprayed it once every couple of hours for about 3x, giving it time to sorta dry in between the sprays.
    The next day I blew up the bed and gave it an extra spray for good measure.
    It's holding up fine. I applied pressure when I sprayed the last spray to see if any bubbles was escaping.
    This process makes sense to me because it's not just one side that is sealed but both sides.
    I did not scrape the velvet off the bed

      Btw, I used acetone to clean and black gorilla tape the first time (inflated) and surprisingly, it lasted for 3 nights. I was kinda weary about the acetone but it didn’t melt the vinyl and it cleaned up great.

    I do appreciate all your testing and this video! Once I wrangled a piece of Flex Tape to use for the leak, I do believe it has sealed the air mattress leak: Unfortunately the Flexseal Flex Tape (that I bought) is super difficult to cut; it adheres to my fingers, my scissors, and has ended up in a tangled mess! (You don't seem to have ANY TROUBLE cutting it). You make it look so easy. I bought the clear Flex Tape, don't know if there's a difference, but it seems thicker than what you're using. Regardless, we had success.Thank you TSG.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 3 lety +4

      Excellent! Yeah, it does take a bit of patience to work with the stuff and it does stick to EVERYTHING. But, that's what it does best. As for thickness, the clear and the black are the same thickness. As for messing up scissors, there is a bit of goop buildup on the scissors after cutting flextape. Water won't clean it up, it's "waterproof" It does clean up fairly easy with this: amzn.to/3lRHBFh or this: amzn.to/31jtcZ3

    The “Flex Tape” holds the best out of the other suggestions on CZcams that I tried-hot glue. My tear was from a seam giving away on my Sound Asleep twin air mattress. I folded the flex tape and matched the crease, cut it into a circle and I used the “Flex Seal” spray around the tape after I applied it. So far I had to do a double layer of “ Flex Tape “, because it did not hold up overnight. But I like this and I will keep trying it as needed.

    my problem is I have a 24 inch high queen sized air mattress that has a VERY slow leak. I can actually sleep on it and it will be fine overnight but I found that when I come home from work around 6pm that the mattress will be about 25% deflated. I have no idea where the hole is and my room is barely big enough for the mattress so i don't really have the room to be flipping it around to check for a leak. If there even is a hole, and I kind of think there isn't considering the mattress is lying on a pretty thick carpet that I keep clean, so no nails or sharp pointy objects would be under the mattress. I think maybe the actual air pump is leaking. It's a built-in air pump that can be removed and has a rubber o-ring/ gasket around it to seal it up. After cleaning the mattress today I went ahead and removed the air pump and put some light grease on that o-ring/gasket so hopefully that solves the problem, but if not then I have no idea what to do.

    Fix tape was a fail for me on a Coleman air mattress. I bought the clear tape so it was easy to see why mine failed. The pinholes - 2 of them- are on the seam of the oval divots. The tape is adhered very well to the top, I scraped off as much of the felt as I could. I made the patches large and rounded and started pressing at the center outward. When air was added it looked like it was going to hold. But as soon as I sat on the mattress the holes became rips, tearing along the seam line of the ovals. So the tape didn't stop the hole from getting larger. It was worth a try.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 5 lety +1

      Oh dear sorry to hear that. It's been a few months and a number of times used, and my particular situation has held up well. Perhaps the patch should go well beyond the seams of the ovals. There is a lot of tension on those seams when inflated and it may need the extra patch surface to hold everything together. Good luck with your future experiments with that.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 4 lety +1

      Flex Tape sticks really well and can work in your situation. If you can scrape away some of the fuzzyness then the flex tape will stick to the vinyl and won't pull off the fuzzyness overtime. Use the back edge of a butter knife to scrape well away from the slit and be sure the patch is big enough to make good contact where you scrapped.

    Update: I went with several thin layers of Shoe Goo, it worked great.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 4 lety +1

      I've used this tape on a tear that developed on my lawn furniture's fabric cover. Held on so far. Been about a year. So I'm sure it will stick. What I don't know is if the slight fuzziness would create little "pores" between the tape and to allow air to leak. My thought is, try scraping off a small quarter-sized amount of "fuzzy" from around the hole if possible. If scraping doesn't work, try using a little bit of packing tape to gently pull off some of the fuzziness. Then cut the same sized flex tape patch to cover the hole. Then on top of that put down a 2"-3" circular patch to hold the first patch in place and have a better chance of sealing any of the possible "pores". Flex seal is another option. Because its a little bit more liquid, it can find it's way into crevasses to hopefully seal all the fuzzy. Good lick. Let us know!

    I'm a little new to Flex Tape, so help me out here. I was under the impression that it doesn't stick to anything but itself. It's made of silicone, and doesn't have any adhesive. And so it really needs to be wrapped around things such as pipes, so it can grab itself as it's wrapped.

      Flex Tape is a rubberized material that has a strong adhesive on one side. It will stick to anything and it carried a warning to not adhere to anything you may think you would want to remove it from. If you do try to unstick it may destroy the item you have stuck it to.

    Did this, used all the flex tape on one hole. Didn't work. Still leaked.

    What about for larger holes ~half inch?
    What do you call the “rubber strip” material that mechanics insert into tires and then light it with fire, to fix tires?
    Did “air-veins” form after a few days?

      I did a follow up to this with a "bigger hole" scenario. czcams.com/video/C7-J4QwIpEw/video.html
      I'm familiar with tire plug strip kits that use rubber cement. I'm not familiar with any kit that uses fire. Plus fire will most likely destroy an air mattress.
      I didn't experience "air-veins".

    I have, actually I am using flex seal tape right now as we speak to seal a hole in my air mattress.. BUT, it is not working!! It keeps coming unstuck!!??

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 4 lety

      What!? Is the material nice and clean and dry? Did you use a bit of alcohol to be sure any oils were gone? Frankly, I'm surprised it's coming unstuck.

      I tried flex tape but it's not strong enough alone. So I took some hot gun glue and put it on the center of my flex tape. Stuck it on top of the hole my son made with scissors and pressed it until the glue was cool. I have no leaks now. I don't think flex tape works as advertised but with other methods I fixed my leak.

      Same thing happened to me. Flex tape isn't going to work.

    What if the leak is in the seam???🤔🤔

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 2 lety

      I did a follow up to this with a different scenario. czcams.com/video/C7-J4QwIpEw/video.html Not a seam leak, but with some patience, you may be able to get the patch underneath like in the video

      Used the mattress a couple days ago. Still holding up!

    A big patch for a tiny hole? Why not make the patch about the size of a nickle or a quarter?

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  Před 3 lety +1

      The more surface area of the patch the less likely a channel to the hole will develop allowing air to escape. 50¢ piece sized perhaps? Heck, it's 2021 we should try with a smaller patch and demonstrate what happens.

      Oh my. Sorry to hear that. Depending on the type of hole/leak, you might need a different approach to patching it. Here's an alternative: czcams.com/video/C7-J4QwIpEw/video.html
