- The Begali Adventure Duel-Lever Key is manufactured in Italy by the Begali family. This is top tier paddle created with the best parts and craft in the business. I barrowed this key from my friend rather than purchasing my own - thanks to John KJ7IGZ. For this paddle and all the others in the series, I took it in the field multiple times and put it under rigorous testing. Here are my thoughts about its performance.

I bought the adventure dual for my KX3 several months ago. I was anxious to spend so much on a paddle, but it’s turned out to be one of the best purchases I’ve made. Worth every penny!
The thin black aluminum paddles are exquisitely precise and make keying so much fun. I can’t imagine ever using a key with a lot of slop or travel after experiencing a key like this. In fact, I think I prefer the tactical feel of the adventure more than my Begali explorer. This is a very good key!

I own two of these. First one was new and arrived in a week from US stock. They keep US stock at tines. Second was used. My IC-705 sits on the 705 base on my desk and it is perfect for the job. The other is in my KX3 bag. I do like these paddles and the quality is as expected. Great feel and after careful tuning they have been solid. Just my 2 cents, or $300, however you read it. Hi hi.

Outstanding video once again, Charlie. This series of yours is my favorite thing on your channel. Thanks for keeping it real on the pass/fail enclosure grade. That’s the only reason I haven’t bought one of these. Blowing dust, snow, a drop in the dirt, sweat and grime…. All very real threats to the performance of a key in the field.
That's nice to hear that you enjoy this series. Thanks! Yes, I've had problems with exposed contacts both snow and dirt before - not with this key but it IS a real threat.
I ordered the Adventure Dual after watching your interview with Bruna. I have to say I am exceptionally pleased with this paddle and with the whole experience of acquiring this paddle. I love this paddle mated to my KX2 for SOTA activations, and I plan to buy a Begali for my main home rig at Dayton next year. Thanks so much for your honest reviews.

Good review, Charlie. I chose the Traveler light which is more enclosed and has a leg strap. It folds up when not in use and it feels indestructible. Hard not to appreciate the quality in every aspect of Begali keys once you use one. Thanks for the series since it provides hands on comparison of numerous models in a thorough and professional manner! TNX OM DE KY9I
I appreciate that Jason. I agree that once you use a Begali it's hard to appreciate anything else. The Traveler Light has been recommended to me by others and it is an intriguing option. I hope to try one out sometime.
Hey there, greetings from the UK.
I was hoping to be sold on this one but I am on the fence for the fact you pointed out on the enclosure and how it copes with debris and dust and normal use on the field and if it will fail on a crucial moment and how easy and fast is to clean or fix a problem.
Apart from that it must be a beauty to handle and operate.
It may not be perfect or ideal for SOTA but for POTA or even traveling it may fit the bill.
In the meantime I managed to contact Bruna from Bengali by email and I must say customer service is 5 star world class. I learned that upon request they can go on and beyond - if you require different type or colour for the finger pads, cable length and also that you may collect direct from their factory / store - that is what I am planning.
I hope this extra info may help others and again thanks for sharing.

Charlie, DUAL LEVER. Your review series is terrific. Keep it up. You might even stretch the reviews to "shack paddles" for the new guys/non -POTA folks. For example, the Bencher BY-1 and BY-2 and their down-market clone by MFJ.
An avid MFJ despiser, I was surprised to have encountered an MFJ-564B at a swap and found them every bit as
vood as the Benchers. While I not field grade, they are surprisingly rugged and stand up to POTA excursions.
haha funny comment. Thanks. I have contemplated the shack paddles series. Maybe if I can get the channel to generate more funds I can make it happen, or I guess I could try barrowing. Shack paddles cost significantly more, which poses a challenge. But I like the idea! I own two Benchers. I almost bought an MFJ-564B for $75 last month and then I would have joined your party, Mr. MFJ Despiser 😂. Catch you next time
Begali makes a nice key, but you'll have to pry my Palm Pico out of my cold dead hands. It has been rock solid for years and I really like the feel and the magnetic base. For about 1/3 the cost, it was a good deal before the company went out of business. If you decide to review high-end desktop paddles, you might want to include the solid state CW paddle by 9A5N. It's a pressure sensitive (not touch sensitive) contactless paddle and it's awesome.
Hi Scott - thanks for your comments Scott. I still love my Pico too. I always have it in my bag, regardless. You aren't the first to recommend that 9A5N paddle. Sounds interesting and I have it on a list I'm keeping. I actually made a "pressure sensitive" paddle (not touch sensitive) recently and have used it in the field a few times. It's in a couple of previous, recent videos I released. I really like it and you don't have to worry about any of the mechanical parts failing because there aren't any.

I am learning Morse and I have this key. I noticed the key keep sending dits when I stop. Please let me know how you adjusted the key to get this to stop.
That's great you have this key. It's a nice one. try adjusting the bug thumb screw on the bottom of the paddle. Bruna Begali said this is the solution. I had the same problem and after adjusting that, the paddle stopped with this issue. Sorry I can't remember how much I turned the thumb screw or which direction. It was just a little trial and error until I found the right spot.
Beautiful key, so tempting since I run primarily CW. Also, John carries appendix with what looks like a striker fired Glock, personally I would only carry appendix with a hammer fired pistol (H&K P30sk LEM trigger) :)
Hi Joseph - Morse code as primary is where it's at, huh! Yes, the P30sk would arguably be a safer. John is an experienced fire arms instructor so I am sure he's worked all that out in his mind. Thanks for watching the video.
@@RedSummitRF I'm sure a striker fired pistol is ok, as long as you have very good trigger finger discipline, which I'm sure he does.
Not having any form of cover is the only thing that stopped me from buying this paddle.

Great looking paddle. I’ve not tried this one but other begali keys have impressed me. I like to hold my keys also when afield. Did it ever get dirty on the summit or dropped? I’m curious if the contacts are exposed. Their keys really are a piece of art es I expect them to peak in value after our lifetime. Tnx RED! Hope you’re doing ok and not stumbling over ballets while out in the wild. Hehe
LOL I'm always stumbling out in the wild. Yes, Begali does makes em great. I never dropped it or got it dirty, but I was taking extra care since it was a loaner.
So they categorize this as a “QRP” key. Are there any caveats in using this key with 100w transceivers? I can’t imagine there would be, but it appears some manufacturers are confusing “QRP” with “portable” and using the terms interchangeably, so I wanted to be sure…I think it would be fine, but if not, please advise ASAP as I’m getting ready to order this key. Thank you…
There may be a little bit of loss in translation from Italian to English. Morse code paddles themselves have no correlation to the radio output power. You are correct that the appropriate description is "portable" rather than "QRP" paddle. This paddle and all others, to my knowledge, will work on any radio that is set up to use CW,. QRPP, QRP QRO doesn't matter. The power output is irrelevant to Morse code paddles. Thanks for the great question and for your support.
@@RedSummitRF I had read long ago something about damaging the contacts on some keys if using them on radios with a lot of power, so that’s what I was concerned about. I’ve since learned these should have no problem being used with basically any modern transceiver. Thank you for your reply.
looks kinda. odd to have a screw head sticking out on the bottom. i get this wouldn't be a big prob with there rig. bracket, but on a plan flat surface seems off, do they make a flat base for use on a table/flat surface??
I think the idea is to use their desktop base for a table or flat surface.

I don't know the Begali official stance, but I don't think you can swap it without disassembly so for me personally I would send to the factory. Thanks Brian!

I imagine one could ask for a longer cable. I actually just purchased an extension cable on Amazon which works fine. Yeah - hit up Brian on the weight. I think it's reasonable unless you are an ultra hiker or something where every OZ counts.
