Plot Summary: The Tang emperor is betrayed by one of his generals, who installs himself as emperor in the East Capital. The son of one of his slave workers escapes to the Shaolin Temple, learns kung fu, and sets out to kill the traitor, who killed his father. The monks have to help him, and in the process, they save the true emperor, who rewards them greatly. Based on a true story from Shaolin folklore, but highly fictionalized. - Hudba

Young Jet's part in this film fitted him just fine. I wore out my VCR doing my weekend ironing of kids School Clothes, my husband's and my work clothes and these Action flicks kept me from falling from so much labor. Most of the actors of old movies are retired or gone, but I'm long hooked.I'd like to be entertained by Jet's and Jackie's more modern characters.

I love the Shaolin warriors, their kung fu fighting techniques, and their heroic actions. This is a great movie with really good fighting scenes & styles. The 360p Quality display showing better than I thought. I enjoyed it!
A good few of the actors was Japanese shorinji ryu stylist who's movements are very similar to Chinese martial arts..amazing movie

I'm completely convinced the guy at 17:50 inspired Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. This is one of the best Kung Fu movies of all time.

Although an inexperienced Actor, Jet Li is So Young and conveys a stumbling sincerity. There are So Many Great Action Scenes in this Movie.
When Jet Li was practicing alone en the forest, he showed his physical ability at his best! This is a guy who has been in the world of Chinese Boxing since he was 6 yrs old. At 11 he and a girl came to the white house to demonstrate his martial arts ability to then President Nixon. Mr. Li has already been Chinese Champion in the art of wu shu several times by then

This is one of the best kung-fu films ever made in my opinion .
Where can I find the part 2 of this movie ?
It reminds me my visit to Shaolin Temple when I was a litte kid, knew nothing about kungfu but the got scared by statues of Buddha in the temple. You konw what, before this movie released, monks in shaolin temple were very poor and no one knew them. After this film became famous, Shaolin kungfu became the pride in China, and Jet Li became a super star in a sudden. It is still one of the best kungfu movie till now.
I love this movie. The chubby monk is so funny and the dubbing voice couldn't be better.

If you could upload The Fist of The White Lotus, that'd be awesome. That was the first kung fu movie I ever watched.
After watching for the third time I can see how this film presents the truth of Mahayana Buddhism - the Buddha Nature and compassion, and the Chinese concept of heart/ mind.

It's weird seeing this movie now knowing who Jet Li is. I haven't seen it since I was a kid. I can't believe he's 60. He's had an amazing career. This was his film debut. 19yrs old.
For an old film the fighting is really good. One of Jet Li's good films.

(Master of the flying guillotine) is one of the most bad ass kung fu movies of all time it's got some of the best fight scenes not to mention plenty of decapitations LOL...

Some of them are good like Ip Man.
But those "stylized" pretentious ones from the early 2000s and beyond are just crap. I've seen far too many of them only to be disappointed. Especially using those cheap tricks like "Jet Li is on the cover" and it's just a ten second cameo lol

I enjoyed this film so much. If you compare it to films like Hidden Tiger, Hero, even say Flying Daggers, then no it's not got the beautiful cinematography or the dialogue and depth but it doesn't need to. Compare it to Ip Man, a very popular modern kung fu film, and it is SO much better! The entire time through Ip Man I felt like the humour was dry and Donnie Yen's acting as a father/husband was poor all though he did well in the martial arts aspects (both in the fight scenes and as a master). It also felt like that film was just playing to the Chinese audience, trying to get back at the Japanese, British and Europeans for the horrible things that they did to them. This however gives you characters you really care about and want to win, the baddies are bad and you want them to lose because of the horrible things you see them do for real reasons other than sadism and hating the Chinese. The people are real to an extent too, the monks are constantly breaking vows! This shows that they are still humans and you can relate to them more. The dialogue may be weak but the story is strong enough to carry the film through and the choreography of the fight scenes are splendid, a real pleasure to watch. I give this film 9/10, also enjoyed seeing such a young Jet Li!

No! I want some campy, "you killed my uncle!" shit or in Ip Man's case, fighting off the oppression of the Japanese in WW2. I'm kinda sick of movies with Ziyi Zhang "finding her true love" and those that try to copy it.

There were at least two, and possibly three Shaolin Temples. The second was founded in 630 CE in a narrow river valley near Fukien. It separated from the first temple in 915.
There were many dozens shaolin temple's that sprung up in the history of shaolin

In short, this was a fantastic, great epic movie by Hong Kong production studios. Jet Li was a superstar along with the rest of the cast for sure and the storyline with amazing. Based on the above, with confidence, I would rate this Legendary production with 9 out of 10...almost there. I'll see you later with another sweet production. From Canada3000 have a great day.
