C4s have really been growing on me in the last little while. Cool car.
i wasn't ever a big fan of the C4 corvette but somehow i feel the same as you.
You guys know You can take these babys for 890, with no problem
The exhaust note makes my heart beat faster. Three thumbs up!
2 thumbs and 1 dick up!
A L98 TPI Lingenfelter 383 Stroker typically produced around 425 - 450 horsepower at the crank.
some of these were punched out to a 406 too don't forget. The L-98 can still make great power and that legendary torque NA with the right components, especially nowadays. Great car.
@Hello Kitteh as I said. Things have changed since back then. Even this engine can make at least close to hat power no matter what this video suggests. Technology has advanced quite a bit since this torque monster of an engine went away in1991 on the Corvette. Just my two cents.
Awesome Video ! The C4 is getting more and more popular here in germany. I really like this car
+Cartman22100 Thanks Marius! Good to hear from you man! The C4 is definitely my favorite generation Corvette, the one I grew up with.
This is what my imagination thinks my stock l98 c4 is
Yup dude same with my 87.. 500hp minimum in my mind as i drive it :)
I fuckin love this comment
It is with a vp station and some bravery....😂😂😂.. I'm looking at an l98 c4 rn and I'm gonna slowly beef it up.. I just hope it's a 4 on the floor.
@@zragevii4705 the auto is great. I’m a car guy. Been driving all sorts of fast cars for work. C4 might not sound like much on paper but it sure feels good in person.
@@vtecbanger3180 I'm hoping for a manual, but I know the auto trans is good... ive just had a few too many issues with a vehicle with the Same trans...😂
Imagine this with a 6 speed. Be a hell of a lot more fun
what this car needs is a ls3 and a T56 speed. 540hp with a performance 6 speed.
@@zerohr8515already has 500 and you can hear it could take a bigger cam so why does it need LS3?
SO BADASS !!!! SO FAST & SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!! YOU MADE MY NIGHT!!!
Lingenfelter makes great cars I’m in love with mine
Me Too!
You don’t “bore” to 383 cubic inches. You increase the stroke to reach 383.
You can bore it but typically stroking is the easiest way and if you wanted to boost it you'd bore and stroke to keep the compression down so you don't grenade the engine
Theres not enough wall thickness to bore it to 383.
He should have said "bored AND stroked". It's not just a stroker crank.
@@Crysmatic GM makes a 3.8" stroke crank to get to 383 with a stock 4" 350 bore, so you can get to a 383 by just stroking it.
@@Crysmatic Exactly. Bored 30 over with a 400 rotating assembly.
Love my lingenfelter C5!
Sounds good runs good. Looks like it runs pretty good
Work of art
American Excellence !
What a magnificent superior machine,
really love C4's nice video dude!
Music to my ears music 🎶 that engine is RAW
Your car is absolutely gorgeous...these cars are American "Ferraris" on wheels.
As apposed to a ferrari without wheels?
dont they both have wheels? lol :P
@@tomster7574 I would hope so.
Now this is a C4 Corvette! Just fucking amazing! \m/
Thank you for making a video of just the car sound and drive bys of the car without narration or an awful rock song
Very Cool
This car sold in Auburn a couple years ago during Labor Day. Is there any chance it will be going up for sale again soon?
man oh man, that mean sucker screams, and it's got a burly idle. the sleek and clean lines and looks of it are gorgeous. those fikse wheels fit perfectly. 500 hp from a naturally aspirated ohv pushrod engine from decades ago, that is just amazing and very impressive. not to mention that the engine itself is rather bullet proof and will last, you can use and abuse it and it probably will never fail on you. great footage Chris, but I'm curious, what would this go for approximately, assumed the owner would sell it, do you happen to know a circa price range for it?
Damn, that’s a screamer!
My uncle had a Z07 C4. It rode like a brick shit house and was twitchy but its performance was impressive. Always loved the clamshell hood 😎
So, if you don't mind me asking how much for a John Lingenfelter built engine and how do I get a hold of him?
Cool car!!!
What are the wheel and tire size?
The wheels are Fikse FM5s. Have the same wheels on my 93 C4.
YOU CAN'T BEAT THOSE, BEST WHEELS EVER !!!
Calderone (tvr2120) hey man! You know it, best wheels ever. And they came out in 1992😎
That long ago ???? i didn't any idea, i have mine since 2008 or so, but i can't get enough of them :)
Calderone (tvr2120) yes sir, since 92! Have had mine since 2016. I remember seeing your pics on corvette forum of the wheels. I was sold on them since!
What’s the figment you went with front and back and tire size front and rear ?
That air box is a torque box😎😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸..
Damn man!!
What tires does it have
Pure speed
is the engine actually bored out not stroked to 383? by way of a different crank, rod and piston setup but with the same base bore size of the base 350 ? or is it both bored and stroked? could be, i'm not sure here. i know that all of that can be, and is done to 350 SBCs.
It isboth bored and stroked. The crank has the same stroke as the cranks of the 400 engine, 3,75".
This model year does not have "about 300hp", it has 245hp snd 340 torque.
383 also isnt the best way to build these cars but ehh.... also those are $4000 wheels fikse fm5 for anyone wondering. Most famous wheels to go on Corvette c4's
Just curious, what does the ZO7 package entail in 1991?
sswhaat I have it on my ruby red 40th anniversary. It has bigger brakes, quicker steering rack, better geared diff, longer, thicker sway bars, stiffer spring rates, 275s all around, power steering cooler, and adjustable shocks aka FX3.
@@brandonherrera2891 you have the same one I have 1993 40th anniversary a lot of people don't understand not all 1993 Corvettes were 40th anniversary mine has the z25 package
C4 Corvettes are beautiful cars.
They certainly are! It's definitely one of my favorite Corvette generations.
Since 24 years I do have a C4 ZR-1 with a tuned 427 LT5 and am still fascinated.
@@Bernd4711 Nice! How much power is she putting out?
At the moment around 683 crank HP with mild regrounded cams. With the biggest possible cams and other valves I see the power peak in the +700 crank HP range.
What cameras and mounts are you using on the front and side of the car?
Just the usual GoPro cameras/mounts on the car.
Test drive a C4 ZR1 with the LT5 , later ones had more power. Have a discussion about the benefits of 4v per cylinder. I wonder how much *** a 4V per cyl LS, midmounted in an all carbon fiber Corvette chassis/body could kick.
He already made a video on one.
I did look in his videos before posting that. Didn't see it there.
Found it... 5 months ago
Is this available to buy?
Crank and rods make a 383 SBC no bore change.
I ride Sport Bikes. I really couldn't see the 500hp in these runs. Looked more like a stock motor. Probably just the angles and camera field of view.
1991s had the L98 and it’s output was 250hp
What was the list at the end or did I miss something
It’s other cars I want to film.
Whats the cost to have them increase the HP to 500?
In 1990 it 16k to put a 383 Lingenfelter motor in your car
Just made a video on a 94 Lingenfelter LT1 car in the shop. The engine is going to be rebuilt to handle more power. It dynoed at 540 to the wheel. Nice Vette
Here's a general question for us all...
This Lingenfelter vs. the Callaway SuperNatural vs. the factory ZR1.
Which would you rather...?
+Algernon Ilfracombe I've actually been wanting to do a video shoot with the C4 Callaway, one of my all time favorite Corvettes.
Good question, here are the published performance specs from each according to tests done by Car and Driver mag back in the day.
1991 ZR-1------------------------------------------ 375 hp 370 fp torque--------- 0 - 60 in 4.7 sec/avg------- 1/4 mile 12.9 secs
1991 Callaway Tw-Turbo(RPO B2K)-- 400 hp 500 fp torque--------- 0 - 60 in 4.5 sec/avg------- 1/4 mile 12.8 secs
1991 Lingenfelter 383 Mod.---------------440 hp 481 fp torque----------0 - 60 in 4.2 sec/avg------- 1/4 mile 12.5 secs
Now for kick's 1991 Lingenfelter-ZR1-455 hp 395 fp torque----------0 - 60 in 4.1 sec/avg------ 1/4 mile 12.3 secs
pretty impressive numbers for any street cars in early 90's. But the naturally aspirated Lingenfelter really makes a statment up against the Twin Turbo Callaway.
Wow, nicely done. I hadn't realised some of their records went so far back. The overall chassis of the C4 was certainly capable of handling more oomph and the reverse-flow cooled LT1 engine was ridiculously tunable. From what I understand, the boring-out may simply have helped more than the lag intensive turbochargers. Wonder how Callaway's Aerobody option and modified shock-spring setup would have helped top speed...
I could'nt find any official numbers on TT Callaway Aerobody, but have heard claims of 200mph.
While on the Lingenfelter 383 and the 4spd auto overdrive(slightly better gear ratio than the six speed manual) one of the same articles showed a top speed of 193.
Probably about right. I think the later naturally-aspirated Callaway Supernaturals had slightly less torque and better gear ratios, but better 0-60 times because of the lack of turbo lag.
The C4 was the most over produced Vette and was once the most loved Vette. Now everyone forgot about the C4 and now the C8 is all the rage! Lets not forget that the C4 is still the most aerodynamic and it's light weight and cheap and plentiful! Drop 500hp and pick races with C8's!
Not over produced. Less c4s than c8s
Chesterfield??
I have a 90 Lingenfelter
Is that car NA?
+flyingphoenix113 Sure is!
It's pretty quiet for 500 hp
85 c4 here
Damn that car sounds good....got a chubby from it
Nope in 91 it had 245hp I know I had one.
That was originally a L98 not LT1. So the L98 originally had around 240hp not 300. Also too bad this is an auto
That's bad ass, but my wife said it sounds like a garbage disposal that's not working very well. Ha,Newhart would she know.
I got a 2020 edolbrock engine and a two double holys produced 1700 hp
1:04
No procharger
I don’t know why Chevy didn’t just drop in 427ci into these cars with twin turbos from the factory and saved us all a butt load of money , Time, AND head aches.
I mean a 7.0 V8 maybe but twin turbos is stretching it.
They could’ve put two smaller turbos in that put things in range of 600 HP back then if the government weren’t going crazy about all there regulations. I mean hay the elites do as they please there not being regulated in all there huge cruise ships n yachts sailing our seas and dumping all there trash out and effecting the sea life.
They did offer a twin turbo option and it did make more power than the LT5. Why they let the turbo option go and opt for an expensive new engine program instead I will never know.
Dude, the Z07 performance suspension option was not offered nor included with the ZR-1! They all were, however, equipped with the FX3 selective ride control. Corvettes in 1991 were not 300hp in 1991, either! 1991 was last year for L98, and it was 245/250 hp depending on options chosen. It wasn't 300 hp until 1992, with debut of the LT1. And what is wrong with this car? It takes off slower than an LT1, and with that much power it should be shredding the tires!!! Sounds horrible, and very tired!
Hey, ChuckShmuck, The FX3 option was discontinued in 1990, It was basically replaced with the ZO7 option which had more upgrades along with the adjustable suspension and was included on almost every ZR-1 that was delivered. Also the L98 was such a strong engine that the Callaway TT option was not even offered after 1991 with the introduction of the LT1 in '92, because R. Callaway determined that the LT1 could not handle the extra HP. Also the 32 valveZR-1, and Callaway TT both had rather high incident rates of blowing them selfs up, unlike the long term dependability associated with the much stronger build of Lingenfelter. And Damn, I think this 26 year old beast sounds awesome ! their is a technique called "pedaling" that is used to get better traction, quicker acceleration and keep from SHREDDING a thousand $'s worth of tires also.
Dwa57 Hey dickwad57, you clearly don't know Corvette facts. The FX3 option carried thru production to 1995. Then in 1996, the FX3 was replaced with F45 selective real time damping. The Z51 option was available from 1984 to 1990, then it was replaced with option Z07 in 1991, and continued to 1995, then in 1996, the Z51 option was resurrected and could be ordered combined with or without F45 selective real time damping. Dickwad...........
Dwa57 and another thing, look at any ZR-1's RPO/SPI code sticker and you will not see code Z07! The FX3 option was a stand alone option, and when code Z07 was chosen, it automatically included FX3, but limited to coupes only, and NOT ZR-1's or convertibles!
My 95 LT1 Corvette with msd coil wires and plugs and k&n air filter is much faster and I can tell that by the sound of the rpm rising
@@dwa5783 my '92 has FX3 suspension..still works too :)
Good luck getting someone to lend ypu their car after seeing how you're basically taking them for a joy ride. That's all.
Nah bro the l98 was 245 hp at best
I thought he was going to show off the whole car what happened he just show the car and then took off in it LOL
No doubt, it’s more like a corvette on steroids so to speak
The money not worth the little performance gains to expensive just put a 373 gear in the rear end
Lmfao Bored to a 383 A Bore from stock does not make an engine a 383 It requires a 3.75" stroked crank and a rod that can be from 5.6" to a 6" stroke And pistons have to match
Yes, I noticed that to.
But you have to do both. A 3,75" crank gives 377 ci. That is acually the stroke of the 400 ci engines.
To get 383 ci you have to have the 3,75" crank and bore the block, I think the bore should be 0,030" oversize to get 383 ci.
Maybe 350 to the tire. Revs so slow
2.56 gears
You guys are something. I have learned from you that rod length changes cubic inched...FICTION
Learned that a 3/4 stroked 350 makes 377 inches. FICTION
Lastly, the guy with the Vette is a pro on Lingenfelter 383's. FICTION.
To argue about what is or isnt a 377 or a 383 is just stupid. Your YAPPER doesn't make it so.
Math makes it so. Math mathematics is the science.
.030 over bore is standard in rebuilds. A 350 crank in a 30 over 400 makes a 377.
A 30 over 350 with an increase of 1/4 stroke gets you to 383 cubes.
Camshafts, who wants to Yap about what they do.
I bet i get fiction here too.
Automatic?! Man up and learn to drive three pedals.
Dude why spend that money on an automatic? What a waste.
Autos win in straight line. If not going to a track don't need a stick except for fun
Automatic haha SAD
Shitty automatic..
let's see some stupid absurd EV sound as sweet at this, ain't gonna happen
