Old Red Barns of Grand Forks County, North Dakota

  • Most of the barns built across eastern North Dakota in the late 1800s were made of wood. The most common color to paint those farm buildings was red. Unless it is protected from moisture, wood will eventually decay. Therefore, a lot of the original wooden farm buildings in North Dakota have fallen apart or been bulldozed. However, a few original wooden barns and outbuildings remain in the Red River Valley of North Dakota. This video shows a small sampling of the red wooden farm buildings left in Grand Forks County, as well as some antique tractors and farm implements.

    It's a shame that the younger generations won't get to see all of the old farm buildings that a lot of us grew up seeing and played in

    Where I live, farmers have turned into a bunch of greedy bastards. They tear out shelter belts just to get that extra acre they in reality don't need.
