- Jet skiing at the top of Niagara Falls wasn't your best idea. You’re already beginning to lose feeling in your body. The Niagara River rarely gets much above freezing, so hypothermia could be setting in. But that’s not your biggest problem, since you're near Horseshoe Falls, with its 57 m (188 ft) drop. The water rushes over the edge of the Falls at 109 km/h (68 mph). And it's taking you with it. Can you survive falling into Niagara Falls?

You are right. The best way to survive a fall into Niagara Falls is to not fall in. Not falling into the Niagara Falls is better than going to hospital, because as they say, prevention is better than cure.
I live 30 minutes from Niagara falls, Canada side. The hospital here sucks. I came in by ambulance while having a stroke and they put me in the waiting room to wait to be registered while I was having a stroke and then the nurse yelled at me bc I couldn't move my leg due to the stroke. If you ever come this way, don't go to the hospital. Lol
@@susane7221 And if I don't go the hospital, I won't get well and I would die. Do you remember, a boy named Roger Woodward fell into Niagara Falls. He luckily survived and went to a hospital. the thing is that falling you may be screaming or breathing fast. when you hit the water you are going to immediately get sucked under at least 20 to 30 meters deep. plus you have the counter current pushing you back into the water fall.
You are problaly going to need at least 1 minute of breath to swim past the current and up 20 meters to the surface.
I live ~40 min from Niagara Falls and go there often. The base of the falls is incredibly rocky. It’s amazing anyone survives 😬 On the American side you can literally walk right up and into the rapids if you wanted to.
Yea! I was there and it felt just like that!
If u fall on that rocky portion headfirst it would burst your skull popping out your brain 🧠 and devastating it and u might be brain dead immediately .Death will follow eventually due to shock and panic .
On the American side it isn't the fall that kills you, it's the toxic orange foam gathered at the bottom that gets you. Someone needs to teach Buffalo to stop throwing their trash in the river.

I was born and raised in Niagara Falls NY. My first job was with the Maid of the Mist. Too many times I would go to work at the Souvenir store base of the Falls - law enforcement pulling out a body or bones being found.
I've had the pleasure of visiting the falls a couple years ago and it was a great experience. There's a ferry that takes you close to the falls and i happen to stay on top deck where you'll feel the wash of water and wind. I tell ya i had a hard time breathing at times during that so i couldn't even imagine go over and having all the water falling down on top of you
Maid of the Mist
Wow, we are going to the boat today! Is the top deck actually better or the bottom deck for both view and water?
It's easy to survive Niagara Falls. Here's a hint: Stay away from the water.

I had to wait for an ad to play and died 😕
The falls stoping their 100 MPH current in order for you to watch a 7 minute and 22 second video in peace was very considerate of them. They even offered you tea and crimpers to eat as well. 😩
I’ve been to Niagara Falls before!!!! Pretty Amazing.
Here’s a Step everyone should follow: Don’t even think about going near the Waterfall. It’s not worth it at all.
I live in Buffalo and I often take boat rides in Lake Erie and go to the Falls quite frequently, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to watch this just in case. lol. Thanks for this! Hope I never need to apply this knowledge but better safe than sorry.
same!! just took a hike near the river the other day in lewiston and it looked kinda tempting
I think it's funny that they fail to mention that the constant water pressure will bring you back under the falls and hold your body there for years potentially. That poor girl that jumped last winter was never found. Then if you do survive the jump and get to the surface, you have the worlds only class 6 rapids which you won't survive that and the whirlpool.
@@Danp34332 there was a girl that jumped last winter???? I live in Niagara Falls and never heard of it. I grew in Lewiston on the Niagara River. Every Summer you'd hear about bodies turning up. My older brothers discovered some blown up from the water. My parents own a Marina in Lewiston for 40 plus years. I've never thought the Falls was a glamorous place. I always thought there is something creepy about those waters.
@@Monkey-fc9nc yeah that poor girl from Buff State that committed suicide. She was on the news for like 2 weeks. She went to goat island at like 1am and never came off the island. She called a couple of friends and told them she had a plan to end it after her bf broke up with her.
I was in the US Coast Guard, stationed in Buffalo for 1 summer.
If a boat in the river gets into the rapids above the falls it will most likely get hung up in the rocks and not drift all the way to the brink / crest.
We rescued a 22 ft boat one night with 5 drunk fishermen, who thought they were going the other way. Their boat was caught in the rocks, and we took them off one at a time with a Canadian Parks Dept jet boat (no propeller).
The operators at both dams on the falls also have the ability to open the water intakes full and purge the water thru, to reduce the flow of water over the falls. That is partly why their boat was stuck, the intakes are normally open at night, and the flow of water over the falls is greatly reduced.
There’s a theme park on the Canadian side called MarineLand. It has a ride called the Sky Screamer that’s constructed on a mountain and built very high. If you sit on the side of the ride facing the Falls, you’ll get the best view of the Falls money can buy.
I live in Canada and I never knew people were so scared of freaking Niagara Falls my family and I always go there not scared. There’s no way to fall off unless you literally g9 over the Fence which is your fault. Go to Niagara cuz it’s one best looking places on earth.
I never thought it was scary. Its not scary to stand on land and look at water

What this didn’t take into consideration is cold water shock. When a person submerges under cold water instantly they may open their mouth in a reflex and suck air in by a reflex, like a cold shower. So initially some of these people may have not been pummeled by rocks but hit the water opened mouth and drowned instantly. They invented drysuit for a reason.
you dont drown instantly - your lungs fill with water instantly, but you remain conscious for about 4 minutes without air

To this day (*2021) after the Canadian man in crisis who survived the 4am plunge in 2019, that makes ONLY 5 ‘Known’ People who have completely survived a unprotected fall over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls ever since they were first discovered in the 1800s. So just shy of ‘Half-a-dozen’ , NOT ‘a-dozen’. First ‘known’ person to survive the falls unprotected was 7yo Roger Woodward in July of 1960, his story is still referred to as ‘The Niagara Miracle’.
And Kirk Jones’s first stunt was in 2003, not 2013. It was 14 YEARS before he tried to ‘beat the falls again’ in the inflatable ball but that time he wasn’t as lucky,

I live in Niagara Falls, NY and it’s beautiful. However, people need to realize that the bigger waterfall, The Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, has less rigid and massive sharp rocks at the bottom whereas Niagara Falls, the US side, is almost 100% impossible to survive due to the massive sharp and rigid rocks at the bottom. More people survived going over the Horseshoe Falls than Niagara Falls!
And DUH, there are strong railings to keep you from “slipping” or falling off as long as you have a brain, it’s safe. I would highly suggest visiting both the US and Canadian side and experiencing the Cave of the Winds (only US side) that let’s you take a walk right under Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist (both US & Ontario, Canada) where you ride boats right up close and almost under the Horseshoe Falls & Niagara Falls.
The natural whirlpool is also phenomenal! You can go over it on a cabled trolley from the Canadian side only and it’s so worth it!
I would also recommend hiking the gorge trail to view the rapids & Fort Niagara too!
Journey behind the falls is cool too, but the best thing to do there is the helicopter rides.
