Like, a lot of the time they'd cut out pieces and sew them in to clothes, not just "ey here kid, have a sad dress". Also that looked like a potato sack, and the itchiest fricking material ever lmao. At the time a lot of companies started printing patterns on the sacks when they heard that people were making clothes out of them.

      So funny because they didn't actually make proper clothing using the potato bag fabric, they just put the kid in a sack 😂 if you look up "flour sack dresses" you can see that, while some looked like sacks, many were actually very cute. Probably depending on how much time and skill your mom had for sewing, and if the flour (or chicken feed, or whatever) sack you had around was a good color or pattern!

      So my dad has a photograph of his potato sack shirt. You would not know it was a potato sack because it was a printed cotton material. It’s a printed button down shirt. And honestly the cotton looks like better quality (more durable) than the button downs you buy in the store today.

    My Dad in his childhood time (1960): I've been tricked, I've been backstabbed and I've been quite possibly, bamboozled
    He likes to talk about how 'hard' his childhood was bc he had to wear shorts in the freezing cold (he didn't have a hard childhood)

      I thought it wasn't until the 1960s. I remember in an episode of The Twilight Zone where the father was pleading with his dead mother to return his son to him. He mentioned something about that Billy won't ever experience wearing long pants and having girlfriends if he stays on the Other Side with her.
