    I'm running my shop off grid. It's actually a cargo trailer i built into a leather shop with the anticipation of being mobile... that was before the price of gas skyrocketed during covid. But it's 100% off grid still, solar, dcdc charger with mppt, 600ah battery bank, 3500 watt 30 amp inverter... plus many other things that makes work easy to do anywhere.

      Nice! That's really all you need, not a whole lot of electricity that goes into leather craft for the most part. I have a new system for the shop that I'm putting together now to cover the a/c and some other machines I'm adding here soon, but it's just a 12kWh battery bank and about 3kWh of solar - should be easy enough :)

    These are amazing, Eric! I'm in love with that green one especially. I am someone who prefers smaller simpler purses, and this is right up my alley. I bet this style would showcase some fabulous tooling too. Thank you for sharing. 💚

    Thank you for another fantastic video, I have been following your journey for a few years now, lots of fantastic tips for leatherwork, I am retired and took leatherwork as a hobby, this video reminded me of a wee job I finished a couple of weeks ago, I decided to recycle a old leather multi pocket waistcoat into a messenger type bag, I know now thanks to this video what the side pieces are called.. gussets 🤣 although mine went all the way around to form a complete attachment for the sides ( pocket fronts of the waistcoat) of the bag I had lots of pegs around the bag as well probably about 60 or so.
    In watching your videos my saddle stitching has improved immensely so thank you again for taking the time to share your vast knowledge of leather craft.
    Cheers and take care
    Sam (N.Ireland)

    I like the design, it's quite compact and clean. I know however, that most women that carry purses really want and need POCKETS. They like to store everything in their purse.
    I would suggest that maybe you could make a mod to this, maybe an extra pattern for an insert that would include maybe a zippered pocket, or one that is open at the top. Even for me, I wouldn't like to use a backpack if it didn't have all those pockets to store things.

    Let’s say I’d like to add straps to this pattern. Any guidance as to where and how to place the strap attachments?

    Your jump cut at 1:27 was pretty cool. But you missed an opportunity to do a karate chop or a ginsu knife jump cut.

    I am brand spanking new at this. If I want to print a pattern but have a basic sized printer at home, is it a good idea to go to a fed ex (for example) and use their printer? How do you print patterns without the proper printer when you’re just starting? Tia!

    Thank you for this. I bought this pattern and another one I've wanted for a while. Please, specifically which leathers are you using for the body and the gussets? I'm finding that I'm having trouble with the gussets using a natural veg-tan that is stiffer even though the same weight as you prescribe. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I am making the second iteration of this bag and am not happy with the handles. They feel a bit flimsy even though I did line each one. I think I will need to reinforce even more.

    I got the acrylic template from Buckle Guy, but the gussets seem to be way too long (tall). Unless I am using the template for the body incorrectly and somehow made it too small. For that I traced the top, bottom, and sides and then flipped it to mirror along the line at the very bottom of the template and traced it again to make ir one piece. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    • @frito5592
      @frito5592 Před měsícem

      In fact, by the eye test, the gussets in this video appear shorter than the ones on the acrylic template.

    I'm not sure how to contact you but I have a quick question. Can you burn leather instead of staining or dying it? Similar to doing the burned look on wood?

    • @alexandercova885
      @alexandercova885 Před měsícem

      Typically not, with leather you can do engravings to it with a leather out wood burning wand, but to take a propane torch to it or any torch for that matter will dry it out and crack the leather very quickly!
