There is so much more that can be discussed in this scenario, but I will comment on a few things. One is to focus on gaining stability, strength, and prosthetic limb tolerance to the amputated side as much as possible. Often times patient with difficulties in both limbs can actually have their prosthetic limb be the "good" side. If the limb can take weight and can develop balance, it can be better than the non-amputated side which may have joint issues, neuropathy, skin issues, etc. In the early stages after amputation, you need to ensure that the intact limb is still addressed with pain relieving strategies, stretching, and strengthening. During this time it will receive more stress, but with training more weight can be shifted to the prosthetic side. Hope this helps!

Hello, how soon after the amputation would be best to perform the AMPnoPRO? I am presenting on this as a student.

We are sorry to hear that. Our videos are a tool for patients and therapists alike to learn more about treatment and care. For this reason, we do have to use the proper medical terms. Please explore our website resources and consider signing up for our virtual course in order to learn more about the vocabulary we use: www.missiongait.org/resource-library
