When I did the last few missions I got FAX messages like "Please stay so I can know you better", "Please be careful I don't want to lose you", "You heard my call and you answered"
It felt like the Car (or Zone?) knew I was at the end of the story and would be 'leaving' soon, and it didn't want me to go. I thought it was designed that way, but you didn't get those messages. So by RNG chance I got a bunch of random FAX messages at the end telling me how special I was, how the car/Zone/Something didn't want me to go. I definitely was attached to the car by the end and those messages amplified it
(I named my car Remy, because she's a Remanent)
That's so cool!! Could it be that you perhaps explored and scanned more than Gab did before completing the last few missions? Maybe that's how the car(?) knew you were leaving soon, and thus the messages?

@@TessaG75 I think it was that, actually, because I made to sure to hit every map location and spend time unlocking everything, so my total play time in that save ended up being over 100 hours 😅 I guess the car knew I was out of things to do besides finishing the story! Whether it was intentional or random chance to get those FAX messages, it left an impression!
It was all those Tourists throwing you spare tyres! They saw your wheel was flat and were trying to help you out! Total bros sometimes.
i agree with your points on being like...taken out of the story. the game is so good & i loved it so much, but i got important info given to me when i was panicking about surviving or driving so i did not absorb any of it. only when watching your videos did i figure out what i had missed! now the story makes a lot more sense to me 😂it would be cool if there was a way that you only got story in more controlled environments, like at the garage, or even you had to be actively tuning into the frequency to speak with Oppy, or Tobias & Francis. something that slowed everything down & let me listen to the plot, my brain is not wired the way that i could process what was being said & not die by running off a cliff or into a tree! adhd/spicy brain processing mode you can toggle in settings or something lmao

In my playthrough the worst anomaly, imo, was the Saggy Scrambler. They cause Left Right effects if you're near them and will sneak up on you and explode.
And worst condition was meteor rain. Something about being outside when rocks slam down everywhere is just super spooky.
So here's a fun fact. Those frequency files you've been gathering if you got all parts. 30 of them to be precise. The very last, episode 10, has a small call with Oppy in it. Now we don't know what was in that call but it means that if Oppy made that call, she's not in the zone. If she's not in the zone, those files were made after the story but were in the zone ahead of time. Was neat when I figured that out.
It's funny cause the missing anomaly from the earlier zones is actually viewable by scanning the area with the resource scanner... which Gab never unlocked lol
Oh my gosh, it's the ending video already!? I mean, it's been hours of content, but it felt like they went by so fast. 😮I hope Gab puts paint on Big Dippy before it's over! I'm excited to see the ending but sad that the game will be gone after this 🥲, it was so fun to watch. (Still can't believe we've had a character death, RIP.) This game did something really unique in the gather-and-craft genre, hope we see more cool stuff like it come out. 🤞About my only criticism of the game is that it was sometimes frustrating to watch just how much blocked road there was, all the little roadblocks like single barrels and such, it would have been nice if the game gave the player some stretches of actual uninterrupted asphalt sometimes. Still, overall I loved this LP and might even play the game myself (which I rarely do after seeing a full LP), so Pacific Drive definitely did something right. 🚗👍 Props to the devs!
1:44:14 I understand the sentiment, procedurally generated isn't for everyone, but I do feel like too many people who decry procedural generation for "just make set levels with environmental narrative and history" seem to miss that level design like that isn't for every developer just like procedural generation isn't for every player. It's so easy to feel like the developer could just make some set pieces and history and lore and environmental storytelling that we forget that maybe the developer doesn't want to or can't build worlds that way, that they don't have more to put in, that they don't have some big world history or significant landmarks and routes.
Additionally, I think procedural generation is exactly what they want for this game. It's about travel, about you and your car navigating the road. They don't want to give you so many reasons to not drive, to get out and linger, they want you to roll through after picking it over. They also don't want there to be established routes, "take route 6 to get a lot of easy olympium, avoid route 4 because it's not worth it for the tree candy and red balloons, follow this path to get all the loot you need while avoiding the bad roads and dangerous anomalies." They want the focus to be on the driving, with the resource gathering to be ancillary to it.
Again, you absolutely do not have to like it - that's valid and very reasonable, it makes a lot of sense and I also like hand-crafted worlds with a stoy built into every detail. I'm just trying to help answer the question of "why procedural generation instead of hand-crafted."
I also feel like it really fits the story of the game where the instability causes _everything_ to get scrambled and rearranged, sometimes even time itself which causes the weird day-night cycles and random weather. The stability anchors were made by Oppy's team to combat the scrambling and keep the anomalies at bay but the instability was just too high and made the anchors unstable and corrupted. Since those anchors don't do their intended job well enough, you can just take that energy and use it as you see fit, but without it the instability gets worse and causes the extreme conditions and storms. The big zone stabilizers keep the routes consistent _enough_ for you to actually get somewhere, even if the areas themselves are different. It really showcases the story well and shows how even years after shit went wrong, the zone is forever tainted and perpetually changing and you kinda have to deal with it, because you aren't some genius scientist. You're just some poor soul who got sucked into this and had a car imprint on you Twilight-style
I would like this game to be cozy… driving, having picnics, meeting people, chilling… no tension, no stress just be cozy… cozy like … animal crossing…

I could go for an Animal Crossing Road Trip game that stuck to the animal crossing formula more than the mobile games do.

I'm looking forward to taking my time and exploring. I also have ADHD and have been hesitant because it seems overwhelming at times but I think you did a really good job and watching you get through it I think I can get through it too. Hearing your self-talk is really helpful, I appreciate that you tell yourself "It's ok, we can do it."

Okay, I'm gonna be honest: I was super curious how Gab would react to the third garage locker space upgrade. It's completely stupid, I know, but still...given how much time she spent organizing her resources by color and type, I was morbidly interested to see how she'd react to the redesigned interface. Oh well.
Still, this was a good series. You saw some stuff I never did (like spare tires being flung at you from seemingly out of nowhere), and you're a better driver than I am!

@@Indigo_Shard Pretty sure it's the former though maybe Tobias didn't say it much. There was a mid zone scene where Tobias said that Francis hasn't been out of the bedroom. Implying they are roommates and sleep in the same bedroom.
@@jamesclarkson156 Yeah I caught that too my sister and I were freaking out about it cause I said I shipped them and used that as evidence. I think they were together for a while but weren't so lovely dovey about it y'know.
@@Indigo_Shard I think they are together, as in a couple. I can't remember where, but I think I remember reading/listening to a note where Tobias asks Francis to stay in the zone with him. "Just you and me." in (what I'm assuming is) a confession-like way. I think it's in a note written by Francis. Also, the way they said "I love you forever" sounded like it was something they always said to each other, like "goodnight, love you forever." That's enough for me. They shipped.
Any game that has an area siren just immediately becomes 100% more eerie to me

I said it was Subnautica on land, but Gab is right about the pacing. A less hurried approach to the level by around 15 minutes before they try to force you to race would be nice. Subnautica gave you more freedom in the sandbox that PD didn't.

Just now getting around to finishing the playthrough of this game. While I loved it as a whole and definitely got attached to the characters. It would be cool to have gotten to explore the well better. It seems like there’s so much potential with that and also so much more you could learn about the research. Though that type of expansion would make a great dlc. Maybe learning more about the well. Plus unlocking more conventions with both Francis & Tobias as you navigate how the well operates and how it affects time & space within.
Well, I surely enjoyed it. Thank you so much for playing. I really hope that ending was a sequel bait (or DLC too is fine, anything more really, unlike Days Gone that gave us that sequel bait and vanished).
The multitasking problem about not being able to follow the story depending on when they start talking in relation to what you're doing is completely understandable, I'm sure I would face the same problem. That said, this was still a very cool game. Personally, *because* of the "you are in an anomalous zone" setting, I didn't mind the procedurally generated map, specially because you always go back to the garage/base which means you go through the first few maps many many times, and I could see people getting fed up with it, so if the player were to instead only go foward, I suppose they could have tried to make a full open world, but that would also require quite some restructuring...

I agree so much with you with the take of this game. I don't have ADHD and I'm only watching, not playing, and I feel like I didn't catch most of the story. I wish they'd implemented some sort of cinematic or at least just tell the story and not have the player do anything else or just anomalies don't appear something like that. My biggest issue is that it was all over the place and it's a shame because I think the story and the gameplay are both very original but for me they didn't blend well together
When stuff randomly appears like it's being tossed over your shoulder, I THINK it's the newly appeared tourist. In my playthrough, 90% of the time they are clearly standing just behind me. But sometimes I can't find them. It's almost like they are being helpful, and if you think about it, they aren't malevolent, and they only want to get close to you. It's not their fault they explode lol

Damn I was hoping we'd get a few more episodes lol. I really loved fully completing this game and it taught me to relax more and just take my time, enjoy the vibes. I wasn't streaming though so I could watch stuff as I was farming materials. Didn't have to worry about not making progress for viewers etc. I unlocked the magnetic hammer way before finishing the game because I was exploring the new zones more to find new anomalies, unlock the resource radar etc. It was also nice to upgrade the garage gradually and change everything. I do think it's nice that the game allows you to just play through faster too though.

That was a beautiful ending to such a wonderful game, and those old messages... it's not tears, my allergies are acting up... sniff 😢. I do hope Ironwood studios makes more or at least a sequel with more stuff to find or maybe a option to change to a diff car. Also, tbh... I really wish you could have met Oppy, Tobias, and Francis in person... sigh...

Mad Max tried to do this but ended up too much like other regular open world game.
I would prefer the game to be more like Japanese Midnight Club and later Need for Speed, where you don't leave the car unless you are in the garage area.

I missed Tobias dying?? Someone explain for me 😭😭😭
when you are linking all the little towers, like 1A 2A 3A etc., they headset conversation is saying the batteries are dying and won't hold out. So Tobias get up and leaves their bunker (you can hear the door and Francis yelling at him) and goes to the power grid to fix something. Francis is yelling at him to come back inside, but Oppy needs him back at the controls. You hear Tobias's labored breathing once it's done, his, final "I love you forever" but he's out there in the (presumed) storm, and gets...."scrambled" by the instability. Whatever happens, you hear his screams, and later Francis saying "Say something to me!" It doesn't really explain what state his body is in. Hope that helps!
