    I think the guide is knowing where the harmonics are. Sometimes you wouldn't use either russian or french shifting just using the pinky to lightly touch the open harmonic.

      Yes, absolutely Popi. We mix both shifting , especially in very emotional, expressive passages. Happy music making!
