    They're not computer graphics. It was a model shoot on film, using a periscope lens to drop into the channel of the 'O' to follow the numbers round to 1. Edited at the moving picture company onto (analogue) videotape. How do I know? I designed & produced them.

      Brilliant filming, it looks like it's computer generated. Do you know who composed the music? And also the 6 and 9 o'clock news music? I think the 6 o'clock news music from 1984 to 1993 was the most iconic.

      George Fenton for One and Six for definite, likewise for Nine from the late 80s to 93, and all evolved into the better-known 1993-1999 suite.

    I remember this like it was yesterday, and, to be honest, the quality of the intro still stands up today in this age of CGI.

    The best One O'Clock news theme tune and graphics...they should bring it back.

    This takes me back, I was 4 years old in 1986, but by 1990 I remember watching these, in my summer holidays or days when I was off sick from school and I would watch this on BBC One. Great music and titles, shame the BBC can't have separate looks for all their BBC One news bulletins now instead of always having to be a corporate style. Love the announcer at the start. ITV News brought the announcer at the start of their bulletins in 2009, maybe BBC could do it too.

      By contrast, I was 30 in 1986, 1990 was a blur, as was 86, forget the looks at the current bbc news at NBH, they BBC bosses are out of touch and money wasters with little planning ideas as compared the the 1993-1999 v era where each bulletin had its own music and colours.

    Very clean graphics for 1986; they haven't dated that much at all.

    I was born in 1986, but these credits were used all the way through the late 80s.
    I remember when I was about two or three years old, whenever I heard the start of this theme for the One O'clock news, and I would drop whatever it was I was doing or playing with and dive behind the sofa to hide before the one appeared on the clock. Why? I have no idea.... Hahahah

      Interesting, here in the Philippines, the theme was used in a now-defunct local AM Radio Station for their news.bulletin. I wonder how they obtain it, as they are the only station to have it, which the sister station, as well as the rival station doesn't have.

    Has to be much better than the current 2018 gloomy music and studio sets that the BBC have, as all very corporate. There were eight tracks on a data-stIck CD-ROM by George Fenton knocking around somewhere .

      @johnking5174 Před 6 lety +2

      The BBC now want to have all their national news look the same, cheap and easy to produce. Having different looks for each bulletin was abolished in 1993 with the launch of their virtual set and it has never really returned.

      This was N2 on the 6th floor at TVC, better days for the lunchtime news later one news, better presenters and nicer theme music, as as you stated, was correct John.

    I think they could have used the titles well into the late 1990's, they haven't aged half as much as the old Six O'Clock News titles (late 80's ones). BBC Breakfast News titles from 1989 were impressive as well.

    • @johnking5174

      Monday 27th October 1986, when BBC One launched their first ever codified daytime schedule. Up until this point, unlike ITV, BBC One would be on the air, but would stop/start their schedules throughout the day. That all changed on Monday 27th October 1986, 14 years behind ITV.
