I don’t even bring junk mail in to the house. I pass the garbage on the way in so I chuck junk mail as I go. It was the best clutter hack I ever came up with.

I’m elderly and I own 5 pairs of shoes:Skechers for exercise, craftsman steel toe boots for work, sandals for yard work, casual for outings, heels for wedding or funerals. That’s the most I have ever owned, I grew up with only one pair to only be worn to school & work. I’m always barefoot I don’t like shoes “ they make me fall down” lol. I do 1 load of laundry 5 days a week and on 4 loads on the other two: bedding, rugs, pet bedding, misc and that works great for us. Thank you for the chore chart 👏. I always appreciate & look forward to your videos, they are insightful, inspiring ❤. Thank you for sharing 👍👍. Stay safe healthy and happy ✝️🇺🇸

I was raised in a "no shoes" house. Unfortunately, my husband's parents were both hoarders and didn't think anything of whatever was tracked in. It has been a bone of contention for us for our entire marriage but it's not the hill I'm willing to die on.
I did finally get him to cover his plate in the microwave, though. I started just storing the plate cover in the microwave. He said I made it more of a pain in the butt not to use it!

Same, but I have the plastic, washable Birkenstocks to wear in the house. An older pair are good for doing stuff out in the yard. They are the Birkenstock brand, so my diabetic feet are taken care of. I can also wash them in the bathtub and they dry easily (unlike my regular Birkenstocks). I can’t go without the foot support of special shoes. My doctor has told me that I need to wear shoes from the bed to the bathroom, at night. This is a great solution. I can not cope with my foot pain, without shoes. I’d have to be off of my feet for a week (for medical reasons). People in our area really don’t do the “no shoes” thing.

I think you underestimate how inspiring looking through your house is. If you had a video every week of you tidying a section of your home, I’d watch it for inspiration even if it looked the same to you. I just really like looking at houses that are cleaner than mine before I start my cleaning. I could watch you doing things like laundry, making your bed and putting your make up away every week. I would love more content like that. Even if your drawer organization is the same week after week, I’d watch it. Predictably is very entertaining and comforting ❤

I tried doing laundry every day for a while but quickly gave up when I saw how our water bill shot up and really became a waste of money for us. For me doing laundry daily is literally throwing away money in terms of increased electricity and water bills. I understand how some bigger families may need it but for my husband and myself it was really too expensive.

These are wonderful tips!! You are soooo right about the shoes. If everyone thinks about where their shoes have been. When you go in the Walmart bathroom, for example, stepping in gross stuff. Then come home and track that all in your home. I couldn’t agree more. And the front door mat, notice how much dirt gets trapped in there. If the shoes stay on, it continues throughout the house as well. 😊

Household routines maintain my mental health! I hear some people say that routines are boring, that they lock you down or are rigid, but I find that with my home routines, daily, weekly and monthly, I actually have more time, more flexibility and less angst about my house because those routines are second nature and done as soon as possible and as I go (like cleaning as I go when cooking or baking so there is not a sink full of pots, pans or bowls later and no place to get a meal on the table later). My big mental health routine is making sure my kitchen is clean and things put away before I go to bed, regardless how tired I am, because there is nothing better than waking up, getting the freshly brewed coffee and sitting down to just mentally prepare for the day and spend time with God.

  • @verakristinarobinson7013

I so agree with small 10-15 min tasks....when we were wkg from home during covid....I found that I got soooo much done in 15 min break....wash whatever dishes were in the sink or put in the dishwasher....vaccum the living room...use swifter to mop kitchen or sweep...swish the toilet bowl with cleaner....you would be surprised how much you could get done. During watching tv program....go throw a load of laundry in...or hang up as many as you can in that commercial break or even put on hangers during the tv program and go hang up during the commercials...thanks for the advise...sometimes i feel like my house is a wreck but its not really i just see things i need to do then my mom comes over and says...Wow your house looks great...so sometimes we are harder on ourselves then we need to be...remember to breathe and give yourself a break..

After several slip and falls on my hardwoods, and especially the tile when mopping, I switched to wearing "in house" shoes - tennis shoes with the anti slip tread (they're the food service industry style ones) and then I have my outside the home shoes. Just swap when coming and going.

Where I live in Alberta, Canada, we definitely take our shoes off at the door. Just one look at the snow, salt and sand from winter roads in the boot tray tells us all we need to know about what we would otherwise be tracking through the house if we didn’t. We do the same the rest of the year for dust and stones.

We taught our son early to put things where they go, even if he changes his mind at the grocery store on an item, he will walk it back where it goes and not randomly throw it some place where it doesn’t belong as we have all seen at the stores. I also agree on a shoeless house. I worked in a hospital for years and the infection control supervisor swabbed the bottom of an employee’s shoes to show what we pick up on the bottom of our shoes, and it came back with staph on it. Shoes are a no for us in the house.

I prefer no shoes for the people living in the home and definitely all children. If your friends and family are aware you prefer no shoes in the house, you’ll find the majority of those guests will remove their shoes. The remaining who do wear shoes in your home, are easy enough in my opinion to just clean up after they’ve gone.

I agree with you 100% about a shoeless home. I take this as confirmation that I should do this. I bought shoe covers to use, that gets expensive having to keep buying them. Another thought about this though, I have a neighbor with prosthetics. It is hard for them to take off and put shoes back on the prosthetics. They also use a walking cane. Of course, walking canes and wheel chairs go through the same germs that our shoes go through. But, I do feel awful to ask a disabled or handicap person to remove their shoes, especially knowing it is a struggle for them. What would you do in this situation? I have seen people use their walking cane to push down the garbage in the trash can.

Your BOFALS ministry is so important and needed. What a great outreach! It is a necessity to get all the family members involved in the maintenance and upkeep of their home, especially seeing their parents and/or caregivers doing it alongside of them. It also helps to keep screen time and social media in check, which has become such a huge influence in our young people today. This is really great and is preparing them for real life and responsibility, which has sadly taken a back seat in today's society.

Debbie, that’s a tough spot. Maybe you can get him special laceless working shoes for when he is working in the patio or yard that can easily be removed and changed into comfy home slippers when he comes inside the house? We have a big patio with an all white deck and very large green areas and my husband leaves his “patio/yard shoes” ( they don’t have laces though) right at the door before coming inside. A shoeless home totally is a game changer but it’s a team effort!! Good luck with your hubby 😊

Her husband refuses to take off his farm boots when he enters the house for a beverage or bathroom break. It keeps her floor clean and the runners are easily cleaned or put away when they have guests.

We are getting new flooring this year. I want a shoeless home. Carpet guy told me that we should wear socks or “in side” slipper because the natural oils, lotions and creams on our feet will still get on the flooring.

many thanks for your inspiring. what is interesting: here in germany it is very common to take the shoes off in the entry area. i would even say, we take them off and some (few) people say ‚it is okay, you can leave your shoes on!‘ just cultural difference, very interesting!

Ty =Thank you. I totally agree And feel the same way, as you mentioned about , “…Not being able to get to things”. Look around and see things, as YOU said And make adjustments as to where thongs could alternatively be.

I love what you said about the catch-all! I'm an avid gardener and I do this throughout my gardens. I tuck away little baskets or containers so when I'm doing a quick deadheading I have somewhere fast and inconspicuous to hide the spent blooms!

Thank you Nikki! These tips are right on time for me! Another good tip is when you come home from traveling, go ahead and unpack your luggage. For my family, our luggage will sit there for a couple of weeks if we don’t.

I also try to wash clothing the night before I leave for home, so I can just put most of the things away when I get home. A hotel with a washer and dryer is my best friend!

Hello Nikki. It’s great, a new vid!! I love your tips and more while having a coffee with you.
We have a no-shoes home. We only use slippers and I actually feel at home when I wear them. But here in Spain if i ask for my guest to take off the shoes, it feels weird or even rude. How do you do it? I’d love to know it.
Thank for sharing and I wish you a beautiful and calm weekend ✨

Lol I’m constantly trying to follow these rules but I recently realized junk mail pile up is my children checking the mail and just piling on my desk. The dishwasher thing I open the dishwasher before dinner hoping everyone gets the hint but I still find dishes piling up and even nestled on my Kitchenaid mixer stand. Grr boys…
