    Thank you for this video. It helped me out a lot just now when I dropped my Honda Shadow VT1100 in the driveway. (I haven't ridden it much lately and ride my bicycle a lot more. I had a brain-melt and tried to get off the bike without putting the kickstand down first--like you would do with a bicycle. I probably shouldn't admit that.) I see there are a few naysayers below, but I, for one, appreciate that you took the time to have this demonstration somewhere and put up the video if it.

Watched a Number of How to on this Topic, it wasn't until I LOCKED MY ARMS at the full length, And Since it was down on the Kick Stand Side I made sure My Right leg would be able to adjust the kickstand as soon as the Bike Was up enough. It was so easy once I understood the Power of the Legs vs trying to Pull with my Arms, hence the locking of them.

      i had a good Samaritan that helped me last night. believe it or not i had never had to deal with this in 35 years of riding....i just never dumped my bikes. i knew the correct way to do it, so i killed the motor, got my right leg disentangled and started trying to lift the bike. this guy in a truck stopped to help. while i was trying to pick it up using the technique in this video this large dude walked up, picked it up by the handlebars and stood it upright. it's not as easy as it looks. also i have to mention here that i am 67 years old. i plan on riding as long as i can so i'm going to practice doing this in case it ever happens again. i think it's all in the technique. very embarrassing.......

    • @annemarie172
      @annemarie172 Před 4 lety +5

      @@fudjpackard3911 even if you're 67, I believe you can use this technique and continue riding as long as you want. I just figured this out tonight because I accidentally tipped my softail deluxe over in the garage. It wasn't even running. I had been adjusting the highway pegs and jumping on and off to try out the different positions, and I got careless.
      I had seen this technique a year ago so I tried it, but for the life of me I couldn't get it up.
      It might help to know that I'm a 55 year old woman, the bike weighs 726 lbs, and I live alone. I wasn't embarrassed because I couldn't do it, but I was worried about something happening to the bike if I had to leave it on its side over night until I could get somebody to help in the morning.
      I couldn't stand to leave it laying on it's side so I watched every video that showed how to do this.
      I finally did it, but it wasn't until I tried rocking the bike back and forth with my legs while I was basically sitting on it. I could kind of sense when it started to "bounce" slightly that that was when I had to walk it up while simultaneously straightening my arms out, more for balancing myself, as I was backed into the bike. The power really does come from your legs. Thank goodness I kept trying different approaches. Now that I've actually experienced being able to upright it by myself, I feel a bit of confidence that I hadn't known since 1997 when I had to pick up my Vulcan 550 by myself. I was a lot younger then and that bike was a lot lighter. But like you, I want to keep riding as long as I can. So, just keep practicing!
      Good luck!

    I recently dropped my 2006 Honda VTX1300c cruiser motorcycle in my garage while sitting on the bike and trying to stab at the kick-stand with my left foot to try to find it to put it down. I have a Gravel Floor in my garage. I built a wood platform to place my bike on when parking it. The platform is near the right hand wall of the garage. The bike fell on its left side and I fell along with the bike and the bike landed on my left leg. I managed to pull my leg out from under the bike. The bike had it upper on the gravel and its lower on the wood platform - so the lower half of the bike was now higher than the upper half of the bike. Luckily the bike was resting on the end of the left handlebar, the front and rear foot pegs and the hard mounted Viking Leather saddle Bags. I tried lifting the bike by the handlebar and the seat but could only get it up about a foot and had to drop it back down. I tried doing the sitting on the seat method and lifting with my knees - but that had the same results. I only lifted it about a foot and had to drop it back down. I had poor footing being on the gravel floor. I am 65 years old and have a bad spine and had 5 discs removed and I have two bad knees. I got my wife out to the garage to help. She is 63 and has worse knees than I and also has a bad back. She tried to help by trying to lift it by pulling on the Sissy-Bar / Back-rest. That didn't work either. So finally I went and drove my car to pick up a young friend who is in his early 30's to help. He came over and helped by lifting on the sissy-bar and we managed to pick the bike up. Luckily there was no damage to the bike. No dents in the Gas Tank and No rips in the seat. If this would have happened out on the road some=place I would have had to call a Tow-Truck.

    Helps if it falls the right way, so you can pull your stand out and put it in Gear to stop it moving. It also has crash bars so it is not flat to the floor. You're not going to get trapped under it with the bars keeping it off you either! and not off road! We would all love it if our bikes to fall in an ideal place and situation! And of course, nothing spilt on the road on the road that you may have slid on, to put it down in the first place. If you drop and a big old bike that has no fuel injection, you will have the added difficulty of petrol coming out of your tank as well, so it has to be done extra quickly. Looks good on youtube if you don't know better!!! in an ideal situation. Harleys never fall flat to the ground! also have bits to hold on too and there is no big fairing on that bike! I could go on!!! Nice short seat too!!

    Turn it off what? You mean those over priced hunks of metal couldn't budget in $50 for a tip sensor. Unbelievable.

    At 3:20 is the point of this video. It ends 30 seconds later, but could have ended 20 seconds sooner - a total of 20 seconds - if the man was not wasting everbodys time talking and making this a 4 minute and 25 seconds long video. On top of misjudging how interesting he is, he manages to say ”So easy a girl can do it” and makes a total prick out of himself. God job!

      Women are physically weaker than men by a decent margin, so it makes sense if he says that.
      And he wasn't making a yt video. Somebody captured it and put it on yt.

    Yes, we should see this video with the kickstand side down, please. I've lost or bent plenty of a clutch lever because the kickstand went through the asphalt on a hot Texas day, or it simply gave out. In this video there is no balance or coordination needed when the kickstand is side down.
