Lexus Door Panel Wrap IS250

- Wrapped the door panels with faux leather on a 2006 Lexus IS250 to cover the sticky doors. These cars have developed sticky doors and dash over time. Should be the same for the IS350 and ISF. Do this at your own risk. I am not an expert, just trying to make my panels not rub off on my fingers.
Just did one door took about 2hours but looks great. I followed your process 100% and it turned out great. Thank you much.
This is the best solution to the sticky pannels I've ever seen. Sadly I don't have the time to do it on my IS. But congrats and thanks for sharing. This is awesome.
As soon I saw your video went to Amazon and but everything I need to do this DIY. I did my two front doors yesterday. It took me 4 hours my doors looks brand new no more cracks no more stains on my hands and clothes. Thanks 😊 for sharing your with us. 😉

Use steam to make the material more pliable throughout the process.also making proper relief cuts around corners make the hard to do spots easier

Sure thing bud! I managed to pull it off while the wife and kids were at Grandma’s house. Be sure to tuck everything! If it’s not tucked enough, it will come out! The first one I did was in the back so I could experiment and not have to look at it... let’s just say I need to do it again. It’s coming apart lol. The rest are great though.

That's a pretty good job. I have the same issue with my dash and door panels so will look into getting this done as labour is cheap where I live.

apolstry tips, boiling leather before hand makes it much more flexible, heating it up a bit should help get it to that hard to reach spot, also contact cement works wonders because it doesntcare what surface its on it sticks to itself

Looks nice! I surely wouldn't be able to do this. There is a company called thinskinz who make door covers, but need more requests for is250 models to put it into production. It literally just snaps on.
I have the same issue with my 2007 IS 250 and I'm debating on doing this for mine. The job you did looks great I'm wondering how it has held up since you last installed it?

Appreciate the positive feedback bud! It wasn’t super difficult but the first one you do will probably suck. After you get the hang of it, it goes pretty smooth. As for the door panel removal, I just watched someone else on CZcams do that video.

Thanks bud! I bought 2 yards from Hobby Lobby and I have enough to redo two of them if I need to. When it’s sold by the yard I think it’s like 54” wide or so. The yard is the length. I did the back doors first and I really messed up my cuts on that one so I’ll probably give it a do over eventually. Even with bad cuts it at least covers the black tar that won’t get on my kid’s hands.

Thanks! It’s not too difficult. Just takes a while to get everything lined up and the cuts right. The first one took the longest at about 3 hours then the next ones were around 2 hours each.

Sean Gordon nope... I’m sitting here looking at my sticky chunky dashboard now. Looks really bad. To wrap it I would pull it out. If I’m going to pull it I would want to just replace it. I also don’t want to cover their passenger airbag

I got the same problem but mine look even worse tbh. I don’t know how this happens?? Mine literally look like a tiger was biting/clawing on it while somebody was also stabbing at it with a screwdriver, like what. Great video though man!
I know Lexus IS are known for their sticky dashboards as well. How did you deal with that?

Thank you! I have seen the dash wrapped in another video. I didn’t want to do it myself because I didn’t want to make provisions for the passenger airbag that needs to come out of the dash. There is a molded plastic kit for a company called Coverlay. It’s expensive but easy to install and looks nice in the pictures.
@@jontonluvwonton8782 I live in a country where we drive on the right side. So I doubt coverlay has what I need for the dash. Anyway, I used a leather/vinyl repair kit to “paint” the soft touch material and it’s holding up alright. Can consider that if you wish to work on your dash.

Appreciate the love! Yeah I had built subwoofer boxes in high school and this is the same process for glueing the carpet onto the box. It’s still holding up pretty good after a month in the Texas sun, but if I have to do it again I would use a stronger glue.
jonton LUVwonton Oh! Wow. I’m planning to do the same by watching your video step by step. Because here in Dubai to repair it in the garage cost a lot ! So you have any idea which other glue should I be using instead of the spray ? Since you said you would use a stronger glue.
Tz Sein ive been looking around for a better glue alternative that isn’t super expensive. Someone recommended Weldwood trim adhesive but it’s hard to find and coats over $100 USD for a can of it. It isn’t a spray. I have wondered about some liquid cement but I think it may breakdown the sticky part of the panel... you may just get a few types of adhesive available in your area and try them out on small areas of the panel.
Alright thanks! I found a glue which is good that goes with rubber & leather. I’ll see the result and let you know. The name of the glue is called Fevicol... anyway before I start I wanted to ask you if I remove the door panel. Will I be able to open the door from the outside ? Because I don’t have a private place to park my car coz I live in apartment. So I’ll have to remove the door and take it with me. Is it fine if I close the door and go up ? Or the door has to be opened ? Sorry for asking lots of question. 🤦🏻♂️
Tz Sein no worries man... the door still works from the outside. The windows won’t work without the switch connected on the door though. And it will still open from the inside if you tug on the cable that used to connect to the inside handle

Yes and no… yes you can take it off, but you need a plastic welder to put it back together. The pieces pull away from each other enough to tuck the material between them

How was it before it got total? Was the sticky door fixed? No more stickiness? Did you just wrap the vinyl over the sticky shit?
Yeah it held up great until the car went to Copart. No more sticky. Just cleaned it and added glue on top of the sticky parts

It was fake leather. The craft store I bought it from called it “Faux Leather” on the tag. I just walked around looking for some material that didn’t look cheap and was thick enough to cover the cracks defects under it.
Can that black plastic part be purchase separately or is a whole panel needed?
It’s all one piece… I have seen carbon fiber covers you stick over the just black part. Looks great but I’ve never seen them for sale anywhere. Only seen people with them in the Facebook group.
You could of gone to Lexus and get it changed for free, they got mine ordered.. just waiting on them to arrive at the dealership for installation. You can probably still go and get them replaced.
It’s a 10 year extended warranty program that is expired for the first batch of the IS. This car was a 2006. I just picked up a 2009 IS250 that was still covered until March 2021. Dealer ordered them for me this time, but a ton of people are out of luck and are sick of the sticky like I was with this car!

@The Real I highly doubt that one is still covered. It was supposed to be 10 years extended warranty but my new 2009 didn’t expire for 12 years. You can call the Lexus Brand Engagement line and give them your VIN to find out for sure.
How much (length) of that leather did you buy
I bought 2 yards from the fabric store. Had a bunch left over.

I got it at the local fabric store. It was either Michael’s or Jo Anne’s. Can’t remember anymore. It’s just fake leather.

Do you have to remove the door to do this?
You may be able to get away without removing them but the glue is messy and the door panels can’t be flexed back to tuck the leather as easily. Good luck!

Lol I had to go outside to do the glue... it was around 2am and sound carries through the alley so I wasn’t trying to wake up the neighbors!
Just buy a new door panel from eBay it’s cheap 💀
I did all 4 panels for $40 total and have material left over. Plus I live in Texas so if I buy the same doors it’s just gonna happen again after it bakes in the sun.
Is that piece a part that I can buy or is an entire panel needed?
