RadioMaster TX16S with HALL Sensor Gimbals - Binding to DSMX and DSM2 Receivers

  • I coughed up the money and ordered myself a brand-new RadioMaster TX16S RC transmitter with Hall Sensor Gimbals, even before it was released, from DroneCosmo:
    www.dronecosmo.com/collection...
When I pre-ordered it, it was on sale for $129.99 plus shipping; I paid $142.98 shipped to my door. (On the day I uploaded this video on CZcams, the price had already increased to $159.99.)
Well it finally arrived and I am so exited! Why am I excited? Because I am tired of taking with me multiple transmitters, sometimes up to six, when I am going RC flying. You see, I have so many airplanes, and now also drones and helicopters. And when I go flying, I take several models with me, and most of them either have their own transmitter or each one is on a different computer radio that I have been using (I have three computer radios with multiple model memories). My RC goal this year is to consolidate most of my RC models onto one single, very nice radio system.
And with the OpenTX system and an internal multi-protocol RF module supporting most of today's prominent RF protocols, my new RadioMaster TX16S fits the bill perfectly.
In this second video in the series featuring the RadioMaster TX16S, I am demonstrating how to create a new model and then how to bind the transmitter to DSMX and DSM2 receivers.
As I continue adding my other models to this transmitter, I am going to continue making and uploading new videos to this series, so please stay tuned. Also, please let me know in the "Comments" if you would like me to cover any aspect or functionality of this transmitter.
Thank you for watching. Hope to see you back on my channel. Take care and stay healthy!

Maybe you could help me out. I’m a little confused. First let me list everything I purchased. I purchased the OMPHOBBY M1 3D helicopter. I purchased two other batteries for the M1 helicopter. I purchased the charger to charge those batteries for the M1 helicopter. I purchased the TX16S controller to control the M1 helicopter. Also purchased batteries for the TX16S controller and a charger for those batteries. Do I have everything I need to get flying or am I missing something? I noticed on the TX16S controller there’s a compartment over the battery compartment. What exactly is that for?

I am very new to the tx16 and have transferred three front yard models. Along with replacing my dx6e, I replaced the UMX brick with lemons new brick (dsmx).
I unwittingly bound them all to dsm2, never occurred to me I can select that last item and switch it to x. Your video showed me that thank you much. Also for lemon aficionados, you have to select elevons and vtails with the receiver programming button and not through the transmitter.

Just found your vid and I'm VERY happy! I setup a model in my RM TX16S and tried to bind it to my Blade Nano S2. I have the exact same DX6i as you but something's wrong with it and every model I've tried to fly with it has done something screwy in flight, hence the new TX16S. Don't know WHAT I did wrong, but when I tried to bind it, the light on the heli went RED, the rotors spun up to 100% and I had no control/wacky control (ie. channels moving the control surfaces all out of whack). I tried it SEVERAL times to no avail. Don't suppose you HAVE an S2 that you could setup/bind to the RM? Thx for the excellent, straight forward vid!

I had very bad experience with DSM2 and Tx18s. I lost 3 heli with this new setup. Sudden lost control and throttle shut down 10 feets away. All pre /post crash ground walking range test over 150m. Not certain if that is problem with Vbar or not, or due to jamming by fellows 2.4G( more than a dozen people flying nearby)
Previously same DSM2 receivers with DX7 without problem for over thousand flights at the same spot, just a couple of days ago before the crashes.
Now all changes to RadioMaster receivers 168,161 with RSSI.

Hi. I bound to many Spektrum rx, from 6ch to 12ch fail safe. I took a motorized glider up to where I couldn't even see the plane anymore and never, I repeat, NEVER lost control. Only with the Spektrum AR9350 that works a little funny. Even setting up a new model with only one AILE and one ELE, receiver still gives me AILE in 3 different channels. Same with ELE... TX16S does not work with Futaba FASST rx, only with FHSS. I love the radio but I'm not ready just yet to use on my 35% gas plane

I get telemetry on my TX16S from my Spektrum receivers just fine; even from my little UMX Turbo Timber. You might experience signal loss indications on the TX16S of the telemetry, but this fairly normal as the telemetry signal from the receivers is usually very weak, unless they specifically state long-range telemetry. Do not confuse this with flight control signal strength. which is fine. ~ 2 km, and I have seen as much as 4km range demonstrated. Also, telemetry doesn't like when the TX16 is really close to the receiver. it will constantly drop and re-establish telemetry.

Hey can you do a video on how bind it with a eflite receiver plane with safe select, I manage to bind it i keep getting this alarm saying telemetry low and it would cut off my power in less than 30 feet away, then after i saw a video to just disable telemetry on the receiver since the telemetry on eflite planes are just “fly by” telemetry, I manage to get atleast 1/4 miles on until i lose power. Thanks

    • @PropsWheels
      @PropsWheels  Před 3 lety

Hi Quinn. Binding it to a SAFE plane is on my to-do list (I just have way too many competing RC projects, and very little time left from my job and family duties). I had telemetry warnings when I was flying my E-flite UMX Mig 15 EDF jet, but I did not experience any power cut offs, probably because this plane only had AS3X, but not SAFE:
      czcams.com/video/82ngVRQpDco/video.html
To tell you the truth, I do not like SAFE or other similar technologies on larger planes. I prefer flying full manual or just with some stabilization such as AS3X. Small planes are fine with SAFE and for beginners, since they are inherently quicker and more difficult to control.
In any case, I will try to record and post a video about binding to a SAFE plane. I am not sure if I have a plane with SAFE Select though.
      Best regards

The Tx16S comes complete with a whole range of protocols already programmed.
It has extra compartments in the back to plug in extra modules but you should not need them.
The Transmitter can be set up stand alone and on its own.
The set up can then be transferred to Open Tx Companion software ( free).
Or....you can set the whole nine yards up in open companion and try everything yoh have set up with the built in Transmitter Simulator.
It is really cool but yoh need to read up, watch you tubes etc and do some homework first to use Open Tx.
I have my Tx16S now for two weeks and I love it.

Hi Russell, Apologies for the late reply. Yes, it will bind to E-flite mSR, since mSR is DSMX/DSM@ compatible. Cheers!

Did you ever find out how to bind a fasst receiver?

    • @PropsWheels
      @PropsWheels  Před 3 lety +1

Unfortunately, while I was researching this topic online, someone on a RadioMaster TX16S forum indicated that FASST is not supported (at least not yet). :(

I am bit disappointed that for this money there is not touchscreen yet on it but analog buttons and scrollers. Also informative part for binding start from 3 minute of video.

Thank you for your comment. Actually, this radio does have a touchscreen. Once the OpenTX software is updated to support touchscreen monitors, that feature will be activated on this radio.

@@PropsWheels all right but that update has not been released yet as far as I know. Also do you need to update it after purchase straight away to have it working properly ? I bought this radio but didn't have time to even look at it yet.

The binding process is demonstrated at 6:20 and again at 11:25 for the DSMX and DSM2 receivers, respectively.

In 6 minutes, or what remained of it, I had found another video and successfully bound my receiver.
