    Have 4 RB42's + RB42-c with Yamaha RX-A780...sounds fantastic.

    The radius corners aid in low frequency standing waves inside the cabinet. All the engineering is invested into the crossover and cabinet design. With CNC machining speakers become more efficient due to critical tolerances that can be controlled. Kudos to the design team in San Francisco. No heavy back breaking loudspeakers to move around for accurate placement.

    I own the Sony sscs5, and now these. The Sonys are louder, and have a bit more top-end., but sound great alone, or with the Sacs 9 Core sub. (Re dampened with fiberglass) These
    The RB42 sounded really deep and big, but were very limited on volume. I opened them up and removed all of the packed poly fill in each one, and now the sound is Fuller, about twice as loud.
    Now what I see and hear online makes sense concerning these speakers.. The bass is full, and not lacking, (not HUGE either).
    I, myself, got rid of my sub and I'm just using the RB 42 right now watching Night at the Musium, and listening to Santana, Bruno Mars, etc..
    Well balanced tone, great sound stage, clearer highs than the Sony tops IMHO, thanks to the crossover and build of the Miccas..Over all, agian, it depends on what you like. My mind is always changing, but these Micca RB42 are on top right now!
    And for 150 bucks..I can afford to keep them and add them to my collection.
    Thank you.

    I turn mine upside down because of the shallow binding post, which I was also considered about. Aside from that these speakers deserve all the praise they get.

    Neodymium tweeter, very light, efficient, easy to drive.

    Cant go wrong with these for $150. I mean the clarity and full bodied ness of them are just unreal. They for sure have port chuff at high volumes but the work around I’ve found is crossing them over at 80hz and using a sub to take that low end. And boom there you go super loud and no port chuffing. They definitely shine in a smaller well sound treated room.

    *Amplifier Considerations* "The RB42’s impedance varies between 4 to 8 Ohms. Care must be taken to ensure that the amplifier is capable of handling a 4-Ohm load. Some amplifiers have a switch that must be set to select a 4-Ohm compatible operation mode. Improper amplifier selection or setup may result in permanent damage to the amplifier or speaker. The RB42 can be used with amplifiers between 15 to 100 watts per channel as long as reasonable care is exercised. If there is audible distortion, turn down the volume until the distortion goes away. Never allow the speaker and amplifier to play for more than a few seconds when there is audible distortion."

      I've heard that the 4ohm such is to make a receiver ul compliant, but it actually does not do any good as far as sound and may cut power drastically.

    I agree on the tweeter gasket.. some carefully cut electrical tape , couple layers would make a nice flexible gasket. I'll probably do this too. Just orered a set of these for my desk music.

  • @aarontuchardt7540
    @aarontuchardt7540 Před 8 měsíci

    The reason they’re rated from 4-8 ohms is because the resistance of a speaker changes as the voice coil moves around the magnetic field. Most people don’t know that. If you put your meter on the driver terminals and move it back and forth you can watch the impedance change. Most manufacturers list minimum standing impedance but my guess is that on average it’s closer to 8 ohms. Just a guess! I know I’m late to the party…

    Great reviews and insight. I own the Sony SSCS5 which I like and will keep. I’m looking for another pair of budget speakers that would provide a different listening experience compared to the Sony. I have the Micca RB’s but may return.....especially if they’re considered close to the Sony in sound profile. Thank you.....I’m at Medicare age!!

    • @iowaudioreviews
      @iowaudioreviews  Před 4 lety +1

      In my opinion, no. To me the Sony have sound the best out of all the bookshelf speakers I've tested. These little Micca RB42 also couldn't handle my volume level buts its not a strike against them since they weren't designed to get super loud.

  • @tech4life884
    @tech4life884 Před 2 lety +2

    Your putting way too much thought on the binding posts. As long as there's a connection, the speakers will power on just fine. The banana plugs don't need to go in all the way to make a connection. Obviously the shorter binding posts stop sooner because the tip of the banana plug is connecting to the bottom of the terminal. You don't even know if the " higher end" binding posts actually touches the bottom of the terminal because you don't actually feel it. The shorter binding posts are actually more solid of a connection because you know for a fact that it's making connection with the terminal.

    • @iowaudioreviews
      @iowaudioreviews  Před 2 lety

      Wrong. A deeper binding post allows the banana plug to go all the way in and effectively have more contact area shaft to barrel. Doesn't matter if it touches the bottom especially with better BFA style plugs.

    I'm a complete noob here, but will the JDSlabs Element II be enough to power a pair of the RB42's?

    • @iowaudioreviews
      @iowaudioreviews  Před 4 lety

      Pretty sure the JDS Labs Element II is a DAC/Headphone amp. It cannot be used to power passive speakers like the RB42. If you looking for a decent little all in one amp check out the Fosi Audio DA2120C. Small powerful and full featured. Would work well with the RB42.

    • @Jon-ik5pt
      @Jon-ik5pt Před 4 lety

      @@iowaudioreviews The thing that sold me on the Element II is that it has the ability to switch between headphones and speakers with a button. I watched Zeos' review on RB42 and he called them power hungry. So I was wondering if the Element II was enough
