  • This DIY welding cart project will hold two welders. One MIG welder and one TIG welder. The welding cart will also hold the gas cylinder so everything can be easily moved around the shop.

    That re-purposed tubing is gold! You just opened my eyes to another world. I come across tons of old discarded machines and metals and have never thought that far ahead. I’m new to welding so I suppose a small truck is next on the to buy list. Thank you for the idea!!

    • @MakingStuff

      That tubing came from an old treadmill. I have 2 pieces left and I will be using those in a future video later this summer. That treadmill has donated parts to 3 videos now.

    The thing I most like about this design, compared with many others on YT - the bars down the side of the welding machine - some very welcome protection -- after all, they tend to be at the more expensive end of our workshop investments ...

    The cart came out very nice ! Thanks for sharing ! I like learning. Your techniques and seeing the tools you use it was unfortunate that my Grandfather. Who was a professional welder. His entire life passed away before i was old enough. To learn. From and as a adult i. Always wished he could have taught me Many of the things he figured out as i have looked and admired some of his fine craftsmanship and wisely engineered Products my own father did teach me about working with my hands a great deal including a little about welding but largely because he had his Dad do most of his welding my Dad wasn’t that good at it other than being able to make. Structurally good welds that didn’t necessarily look the best where my Grandpa always made very good looking welds ? My Dad was more a carpenter than a metal fabricator. Yet my Granfather began his career as a body and fender man utilizing lead as a. Filler And mostly hammer and dolly work So he was kind of a metal artist originally one of the coolest things he made was a steel nativity seen we still use. At Christmas it includes the Wisemen And animals all made from. Small pieces of metal. Welded together and the. Small welds are done like art since he didn’t grind them to smoothness

    Just an FYI, anytime you drill a hole through square tubing, you should always put a washer on both sides of the bolt and but /or fasteners to distribute the weight evenly throughout. The hole that the back wheels bolt through, will eventually start" egging out" , especially if there is more weight over the hole. Good build.

    Can you open the side door on your MIG welder with those rails where they are? Seems like that would be the drawback of this design. Any changes you’d make doing it a second time? I’m also repurposing material to make a welding cart, and nearly boxed in my machine with my design.

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  Před 4 lety

      The door on the blue Clarke welder in the video is not hinged. It just comes off of the welder. The newer videos with the Lincoln MP210 has a hinged door, so yes it has the problem you described. If I made it over again today, I would make the sides tall enough to open the door on the MP210, everything else has worked fine.

      The ones in the video came from Harbor Freight. They are 4 inch not 3 inch, you are correct. The Amazon equivalent is amzn.to/2GHv6q3 The ones from HF is www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-x-3-4-quarter-inch-stem-swivel-caster-90998.html If you order the HF ones, the thread is 1/2 inch x 20 which is not common at most hardware stores or big box stores. Luckily I had a tap with the same thread pattern.

    • @carllicari3067

    I hope u can teach an old man new tricks. Concerning power controllers used to power a dc motor on a wood lathe or for that matter any woodworking tool. Do all, some or what accept regular 110 house current as power input or is there some that require only dc power input? Just a bit confused in reading the descriptions to some on Amazon, ebay, etc. Sometimes neither is mentioned and I wonder if I’m just stupid or missed something. I have my wood lathe running with a dc motor through the MC-60 that came on the same treadmill. I was wondering if you could just avoid using the mc-60 altogether and use a power controller. Hope u can teach an old dog new tricks.
    Thanks a lot
    Oh I forgot, on my wood lathe where I have the dc motor running through the mc-60, I want to fix it where it will run forward and reverse. I have a DTDP switch wire up and ready to install & I wanted to know if I could piggy back to the connectors inside the mc-60 where the power and motor are connected? In other words can I connect the DTDP switch wires onto the same posts where they are connected to the Mac-60? If this isn’t clear please let me know and I’ll try to go from another direction. Thanks
    Oh, one more thing, whew! On CZcams I have noticed different people designating which wires go where. Some say the 2 middle wires(on the DTDP switch) go to the power while some say they go to the motor. Can u shed light on this?
    Finally THANKS

      80 cu ft is about 3' high. Argon and cO2 mix gas for steel. Will last a long time if used at home. Better welds and easier to weld with than flux wire. My machine seems happiest burning 0.023" wire.
