It is always magical, what you can archive with a little nail polish remover and moisturizer. Most of the times, the cracks just cracked polish and under that, the leather is in great condition. In my experience, the patina usually stays. It is really worth to buy used shoes if the upper is not scratched. I recently bought a pair of gunboats, I stripped the old polish, the chestnut finish come off and an unusual, reddish brick-like colored surface appeared. The previous user used a bad quality cream in the wrong color. They look great now.

Does this involve soaking them to plump the leather, or is it some other magic trick? Bless you and those you love. I particularly enjoyed the video of the restoration of your father's shoes.
