That's awesome Scott! Like I said I'll be there in 7 months,
I will have to do an Airbnb for a month or two first I imagine...

Great area ! Only downside is we will need more taxi rides but there is a bus stop very close also.

We will probably be moving out of this place in 5 months. We would like to move sooner but not sure the landlady will let us out of the lease. Too bad you aren’t coming sooner, we would handoff this place to you. Fantastic place if you don’t have dogs. If we didn’t have Sam n Roscoe we would stay here as long as we live in Xela.

I think i like this floorplan the best. It's completely open. I'd be afraid the dogs would fall down the stairs to the bathroom in the other floorplan.

Super nice! Are there many hoops to jump through to rent it?

Nope. First, last, security deposit. As soon as they see you are a gringo, you are golden. They assume you easily have to money.

What a cute place!! Does it have heating and/or AC or is that just not a thing there? It looks like they forgot about the refrigerator when it was being designed 😂. Is this still downtown and walkable to everything you need and want?

I have yet to see a place with heating or cooling. We sleep with all our windows open at night…cooler the better for us….usually it has been 45-50.
Xela Gardens is a 15 minute drive….$4 in a taxi. It is off a Main Street so busses go by every 15-20 minutes. In about 5 minutes you would be in an area with supermarkets and food, called rotunda de la marimba. If you want to go to the Central Park from the rotunda you can catch a microbús to the park area for about 30 cents. We like to walk and have walked to the marimba several times. So a long answer is no, it is not as convenient. We just need a place better suited for Sam n Roscoe. They need a little yard and an area where all dogs are on leashes so they can walk around without starting fights.

@@therehastobesomethingmoore are there places further out where they could have a bigger yard, and how is the noise level outside of downtown?

Yes, if you go out a bit farther you can even get in countryside looking areas. But at some point you might need a car, which we want to avoid.
When we were walking around in Xela Gardens it was much quieter. No traffic noise. There is no through traffic so unless you live there you can’t get in. I would guess it may also eliminate most fireworks, but that is just a guess. Houses in there sell for approx $130,000 USD ( $70,000 five years ago )….so pretty pricey for Guatemala.
