I'll tell you EXACTLY what Forrest said in this scene + a bunch of other stuff.
"In Vietnam, your best good friend can get shot. That's a bad thing. Sometimes, when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their momma without any legs. Sometimes, they don't go home at all. That's all I have to say about that."
Word for word.

This scene always gets me cuz she didn't know if Forrest did live through the Vietnam War and her realizing it was him at the rally and them embracing was what people needed to see. A happy moment in a very dark period of history
Not gonna lie... There are two parts in this film that always make me cry-this scene and the one where Forest is speaking at Jenny's grave and he's crying. That's real love. And it's rare to find that. We should all be so lucky.
When he finds out he has a son too

Jenny got addicted to drugs, let people run a train on her, kept friendzoning Forrest, and only went back to him when he was rich while she had aids.. Forrest deserved better.

And in worst case if you can't be understood or can't understand, it's the perfect situation to exchange knowledge about languages.
Some context/explanations for this emotionally powerful scene... *:)*
1. (0:40) *_"And he liked to say the F-word. 2. (2:04) *_"There was only one thing I could say about the war in Vietnam..."_** ~* According to Tom Hanks (& later backed/confirmed by the film's writers), Gump's semi-silenced words were...
*_"Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they donât go home at all. Thatâs a bad thing. And thatâs all I have to say about that."_*
3. (3:07) *_"Forrrresst! Forrest!"_** ~* No matter how many times I see that part, it makes me misty-eyed and sniffly, it is so well delivered. *;_)*
Thanks for uploading this, *Legendary Movie Scenes.* :)
I would also include the beginning of his speech too. "In Vietnam your best friend can get shot...."
Shut up
Jenny did love Forrest unconditionally. She was messed up due to childhood abuse/trauma. She removed herself from Forrest because she thought she wasnt good enough for him and didnt want him to deal with her baggage. As messed up as she was, removing herself (her baggage) from him was an act of love.
Even as a kid watching this, I always just thought Jenny was just so toxic for Forrest
First time I see it that way. Very reaviling. Thanks!
With his mental disability I thought Jenny thought it was wrong for her to be sexual with him like it would be almost be like an adult taking advantage of a child or something.
Then why did she come back?
@@gianglai7346 Because she had finally got her shit together after becoming a mom. People disregard how hard Jenny mustâve worked to turn her life around for her kid, but she went from a nomad junkie that jumped from abusive man to abusive man to a loving single mom with a stable job and an nice apartment of her own, all before inviting Forrest back into her life
Makes me smile when the crowd cheers for Jenny and Forrest hugging.
I love how Jenny calls out to Forrest, He runs to her and the crowd roars as they embrace....Sure it's nice to be a decorated soldier, sailor or airman, However the medals are secondary to simply getting home to people You love
Btw, whats your opinion on Jenny from Forrest Gump as a character ? She is also a flawed female character that get hated a lot for the way she treated Forrest, but Idc what anybody says, Jenny is my favorite character because i can empathize with her due to her upbringing, there is more to her than meets the eye, same goes for character like her, Bojack Horseman, you can find their actions intolerable and still empathize with them, abusive upbringing can damage a person's mind drastically.
You can call Forrest an idiot all you want but donât forget that he passed his SNCO cadre and became a sergeant

This movie has always made me wonder how many people have lived there life like Forrest Gump. Like they just really absolutely go with the flow of things and have really cool and historical moments of history happen to them as a result.
As a kid, I felt bad for Forrest, for not knowing what was going on. Even though seeing this movie as a kid, _I_ didn't even know what was going on.
One of the few movies I know every line start to finish
This goes to show that you donât need words to tell the crowd what you need to convey. Just by reuniting with your best friend despite the differences and conflict in the background.
After all these years watching this movie so many times, i just noticed that the guy in American flag shirt cried after Forrest's speech
According to Tom Hanks this is what Forrest says
âSometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they donât go home at all. Thatâs a bad thing. Thatâs all I have to say about that.â
I feel like the whole premise of the movie is that Forrest, because of who he is, becomes a catalyst for the point that 'life just is,' and the more we simply live in simple ways, the more life is a place where we experience what it has always given us.

This movie came out in 1994, so we probably had it on VHS when I was 7 or 8. I also never learned about it in school because I went to a Canadian school because I happened to be born in Canada and in our country we learned our history. Hope this makes sense to some!
This scene makes me cry all the time!
i just finished this movie yesterday and had to come back to this scene because it's so heartwarming to watch
I love it.
Thank you for sharing.
Had a discussion with my friend today about this scene. The silence of Forrest Gump. He is the holy fool of the story, the purity that no words nor language, as a logical construct by human, can convey. It doesnât matter what he actually said, the world will never take his words truly, they just want to make him the icon of what they want him to be (the military wants him to be silent, while the gypsy just wants him to say something anti war). But Forrest isnât any of that, or represent any ideology, hence no one could actually hear him. They will even make up things about his speech, but Forrest doesnât care. He is the fool, and the beauty that sees the world as it is.
Gets me every time.

There is no greater power in the universe than love. Both real love and Hollywood love. This scene is great and I love this film.
When it's your time to present
Forrest Gump is easily in my top five favorite movies. He had his limits, from childhood. He lived through a ferocious war and came back home just to be himself, a good guy. In spite of what setbacks he may have had, and the grief he encountered, he lived a full and rich life. He thrived, did some good, and was a decent guy who left fond memories with those who knew him. We should all take a lesson from Forrest.
Abbie Hoffman wiping away a tear and hugging him was, as small a moment as it was, very moving. âYou said it all, man.â
This was such a good movie guys!
