Never Normal is where I talk about Emo, Punk, Pop Punk, Ska, Metal, Rock music and everything under the Alternative music genre. I talk about bands like Rites of Spring, American Football, Blink 182, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Paramore to Modern Baseball, Title Fight, Touche Amore, Joyce Manor, Hot Mulligan and festivals like When We Were Young and Riot Fest.

Wasn’t expecting Set Your Goals to be brought up but absofuckinglutely.
Action/Adventure is great modern easycore. Plus these new FYS singles have been some of the best they’ve put out in years
yup, missed A/A, new FYS is great!
Thanks for watching!
Hell yeah, Action/Adventure are arguably keeping easycore alive in a way
I will never let Easycore die! I’m so glad that you mentioned Settle Your Scores and all those other great bands! Here’s some more Easycore bands I’d recommend checking out:
Still active - Delridge, All She Wrote, For The Win, Wired For Havoc, Wimbledon Alley, Midfield, Cowabunga!, Rise on Everest, Live For Tomorrow, Action/Adventure, I Call Fives, Two Trains Left, Lower Ground, Rematch, Chin Up Kid, Down to Friend and of course my favorite band and probably the best band in the scene right now Big Drink!

ABANDONED BY BEARS!!!!!
FUCKING DRIVEWAYS!!! YES YES YES! I wouldn't label them as easy core, but FINALLY someone talks about them!! One of my favorite bands and theyre finally starting to blow up!!
I am very happy to find this video. Great work!
Thanks for watching!
absolutely love this channel, keep it up!!!!
Thanks so much!
When I saw the title I said, Finn already did this.but….no, this video is awesome, I loved it, thanks for the great info about the new generation.
Thanks for watching!
i got some extra info to give on this! first off, easycore comes from an old school new found glory shirt from 1999/2000 ish. NFG has easycore songs with breakdowns dating back to their first releases, namely youve got a friend in Pennsylvania. Chad knows about easycore and its influence, he actually invented the term because new found glory were all hardcore dudes playing pop punk!
amazing video as always man!
Thanks for the info! Also think not without a fight has some easycore elements.
Thanks for watching!
@@NeverNormal definitely, every new found glory album has breakdowns and whatnot, just not always the same metalcore influenced ones later easycore bands had
would FFAF fit as easycore
@@erikjonsson1519 I mean yeah, quite a few songs have major key breakdowns and stuff so they have a couple easycore songs, but I wouldn't classify that as their genre overall
great video brooo!
Appreciate it!!
Great video as always. Nice With the Punches shout out! I would love to see some new music from SYG one day.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video!!
Thanks!
My favorite genre 😭
New subscriber! Looove music history stuff like this
Welcome aboard!
excellent video 🤘
Thanks!
I hope chunk No Captain Chunk releases new music soon. They haven't had a album since 2021.
it'd be fun to see what they would sound like in 2024.
But that record still stands up so well though
Love CNCC, one of my first tattoos was "in friends we trust"
Also love the City lights, WTP and carousel kings shout outs!
Love WTP, I really like their newest ep.
I played a house show with Settle Your Scores. Wild times.
Thanks for watching!
I think something people often forget to mention in the intros is that easycore specifically comes from new york "heavy hardcore" the metalcore it birthed, And youth crew leaning sounds. They came around after crossover thrash. Think Madball not early Bad Brains. Merauder no early MDC.
The mixing of pop punk and hardcore (usually melodic hardcore, but that was just hardcore at first anyway) was already present in 90s style skate punk (it was common in ska punk too).
This difference is why you usually have a buncha slower chugga chug metal esque riffs played in major.
Its why when people play metal in major they're often reminded of pop punk, when regular pop punk doesn't really have riffs that resemble metal at all (unless we're talking other hybrid songs like Sum 41s).
Sometimes 90s Skate punks crossover thrash and hardcore roots from early skate punk also give some chuggy riffs depending on the band but they tend to be based more in being energetic/fast/harsh and less in groove or heaviness. The "technical" skate punk bands really leaned on those metal influences, often being hybrids.
lot of great info, it always get's mess when we pick a band that did thing X first, kinda like with Rites of spring and emo.
Sum 41 is a great shout. I'd call the easycore adjacent.
Thanks for watching!
@NeverNormal I figured its often fitting to elaborate in the comments rather than drag the video out if that wasn't intended. Anyway, you're right! Pinpointing firsts is always really difficult as genres and trends aren't often suddenly birthed outra nowhere by one band, bands have a variety of inflhences/genres, and genres are an abstraction in the first place.
Rites of spring and embrace hate being called emo but we cant deny they were crucial to its history. That pattern even repeats for sunny day real estate and later MCR.
That’s wild that Knocked Loose doesn’t get any radio play, their new album charted above Taylor Swift the week it came out.
Awesome video. The Wonder Years is the best band in this video.
Thanks for watching!
the elements of easycore live on through the new wave of midwest emo. bands like Pinegrove and Mom Jeans. made it pretty and threw in some country elements but it’s got the gang vocals (singing) and the summer stuff.
I feel like we can add origami angel as well. Like on title track which is kinda easycore emo
I swear, all these bands have the same vocalist that’s in all pop punk and emo bands
* Oie swær oll ōvv theeeze bænds hæ *OOLL* tha sæme vocalest thæts een *OOLL* pawp pōnk ænd emaooooo
There, made it visually accurate
Awesome video! Not sure if they are technically easycore but I’ve never been good with genres anyway but action/adventure is a great band keeping the beautiful combination of pop punk and breakdown alive. I see them everytime they play a hometown show. Also if you haven’t checked out wolf rd there first EP “nowhere around you” has some solid easycore tracks.
Yes on action/adventure. That's my mistake.
Will check out wolf rd!
@@NeverNormal you are totally fine! Seriously so glad I stumbled upon your channel. Love how you included bands like MM@TA and Cleveland Avenue.
I think Hit The Lights is such an underrated band!!!
100%, can't wait for new music
Ain't no party like a DAGGERMOUTH party
Dagger f'n mouth
Daggermouth!!!!! Holy shit I haven't heard that name in years
Lassies last dance is a jammmm
I'm made of wax, Larry, what are you made of? Is my go-to lawn mowing theme song to this day :D
lol Thanks for watching!
From States Away snubbed
will check them out.
Thanks for watching!
Fall Out Boy’s Take this to your grave album definitely laid some groundwork as kinda Protoeasycore imo. It has gangvocals, screaming, breakdowns, and silly song titles lol. Wouldn’t fully count them as I don’t think the sound had quite gelled yet but def an important step that led to easy core.
great point!
Thanks for watching!
To your point, I’d even argue FOB popularized easycore. Infinity On High practically opens with a breakdown on Thriller
@@EricNygmaThriller is very EZ and Falling in Reverse had an Easycore song too called Goddam
In what world is Knocked Loose a brand new band though?
Great video man. KL is not getting on the radio not because they’re not big enough it’s just their sound. It’s way too heavy for your average radio listener
Which is such a dumb reason lol
Thanks for watching!
@@NeverNormal Agreed, maybe the big wigs at UMG/Sony are afraid of the “counter culture” getting too large
But do you remember the #Ezrevival2k15
Time for #Ezrevival2k25
I don't, I know there's been a few shows/tours that have tried to kinda revive the easycore name
I still have a shirt that says ezrevival2k15 😂
Great video as always. Nice With the Punches shout out! I would love to see some new music from SYG one day.
