    As far as cleaning it, you unscrew the protective plastic grid and there is a brush inside to clean the zapper part. It may not ATTRACT mosquitos (but for sure will kill any that lands on it), but it cost me $15 at Lowe's and it for sure kills insects. I got 25 one night when I put it outside (when there were almost no visible bugs outside), but I mostly keep it on indoors, just in case a bug finds its way in and lands on it.

    • @vernellguillory

    A DI just got mine today and I've never seen a bulb so poorly designed it will overheat and only last anywhere from three to six months like everybody else's, bug zapper will continue to operate, I modified Mine by putting a heatsink on the mainboard with heatsink compound and drilled holes for ventilation and I'm going to check the temperature should be much cooler.

    I plugged this thing in and tested the zapping by sticking a screwdriver in the grid and it zapped just like a hand held zapper so it might work. One problem is I don't have a light like yours outside, just motion security lights. Might get one of those plug to socket things if they make them, it's a light socket with a plug on it so you can plug a light bulb into an outlet directly.

      GKAtascosa I looked over all sides of the packaging and it doesn't specify which insects are more susceptible to be attracted to the light. It does state "The zapper utilizes LED and blue UV light to draw in flying insects within an 855 square foot area." For me this suggests it is more effective when both are lit as opposed to just running the UV light. Also, I was going to order through Amazon, but happened to see this in Walgreens for $19.99 as shown on Amazon, who only had 2 left at $19.97 each. I just picked it up at Walgreens to save myself the shipping time and was able to use cash cash card. I hope this was helpful.

  • @strayiggytv
    @strayiggytv Před 3 lety

    These uv based "mosquito killers" are weird to me for several reasons. First and foremost mosquitoes are attracted to people by exhaled CO2 primarily, which is why most of the bugs people post that it killed aren't actually mosquitoes.
    Secondly placing this outside is stupid because it just kills insects indescriminatly. I know I'll get a bunch of morons telling me to STFU tree hugger but we actually need some insects. With insect populations on the decline killing them every night on purpose with a UV based bulb is just stupid. A lot of harmless bugs get killed for no reason.
    If you actually want to reduce the mosquito population on your property get rid of all standing water or treat decorative fountains and water features with mosquito dunks.

    It was found in studies that there was no significant difference in the number of mosquitoes found in yards with or without bug zappers. What is particularly disconcerting, however, is the number of non-pest insects that comprise the vast majority of trap catch. Many of these insects are beneficial predators on other insect pests. They in turn constitute a major part of the diet of many songbirds. Indeed, reduced numbers of moth and beetle prey species have contributed significantly to the decline of songbird populations in many affluent suburbs. Insect electrocution devices undoubtedly bear some responsibility for this phenomenon. Mosquitoes continue to be more attracted to humans than to the devices. One study conducted in homeowners' backyards showed that of the insects killed by these devices, ONLY 0.13% were female mosquitoes.... An estimated 71 billion to 350 billion beneficial insects may be killed annually in the United States by these electrocuting devices.

    BITING MOSQUITOES will not flock to this device unless there is a lot of high tech involved? BITING MOSQUITEOS are drawn to human beings by warmth and the CO2 that WE BREATH OUT!
