- OK I looked for an instructional video...you had to buy the only one that I could find, for the MGB anyway. Don't do this the way I did it...its just not right! But I got the hood on and its water tight. I cannot...just cannot get all those clips fastened! Anyway its on and its waterproof. Big improvement on what was there before. But go buy that guy's video he'll tell you how to do it correctly. Watch mine for a laugh.
Great video!
Thank you.
I suggest you install that roof in the sun !!!! I just bought a top for my 70. It is like the Mercedes cloth with no 1/4 windows cost me $ 1200 bucks !!! Had it shipped from England. So with shipping it was $ 1500. I say all this because I'm not taking any chance with it. It is going to a qualified upholsterer . Yours looks good !!
Wow. Yes I think you’re wise!
Thanks for posting this up, I'm pondering the same job but not sure whether I'll try or not ....
You should definitely try it. If I can do it then you can. I know mines is not perfect, but hey it’s much better than the old torn one that was on there. And it doesn’t look too bad!
Use contact cement, it will stay if you follow the directions. DON'T use self tapping screws through the aluminum strip, use rivets as is originally done, otherwise it is hard to get the sealing rubber in correctly.
Thanks. Your sage advice will help others not make the mistakes I made for sure.
What guy's video are you referring to? I just bought my hood and it looks like a pain to install it.
Sorry but this was a while ago. There were a few CZcams videos of folks doing this. I’m sure you’ll find the other guys video with a simple search… probly much better than mine lol😊. I always figure it’s best to just give it a go … maybe even video putting yours on. Between us all maybe someone can learn from our mistakes! Thanks
❤ love the MG
Thank you
Jeepers: James; I just realized that this was you. I hope your video's are still coming thick and fast. I love your stuff.
Would be helpful if the camera actually showed what he's doing at the rear of the car!
Your right. It's difficult to film every detail of what is going on. I eventually sold the MGB and although the hood was not perfect; at least it passed muster enough for the new buyer not to have a problem with it. None of the videos I looked at helped me with the details either; sorry mine's fell into this category too. Let me know if I can help with any advice.
I apologize if this sounds shrill and silly but I’ve watched half a dozen of the how to’s on mounting the MGB hood and all of them miss the point of how to. Can’t see anything.
Yeah I feel your pain. It's difficult to film every detail of what is going on. Most of the time I am making decisions on the spur of the moment and its difficult to film every change of tactic. If I can help with specific questions I will try and do that. I eventually sold the MGB and although the hood was not perfect; at least it passed muster enough for the new buyer not to have a problem with it. I felt the same as you do; but I just ordered a reasonably priced version of the new hood, and jumped in. Let me know if I can help.
Where do you live I can help
Thanks very much for the offer; I know this is way too late for responding but I do appreciate your offer of help. I since sold the MGB. All good.
Do you want to sell ?
I appreciate your offer for this too. I did eventually sell the MGB; got a little bit more than I paid for it... but considering how much sweat equity I poured into the lil car; I did not really make any profit. But it was really a labor of love.
