My wonderful little sister was only 12 when she lost her fight against leukaemia in 2009. She loved Owl City, but it wasn't until later that I finally 'got' the beauty and comfort in Adam Young's songs. Now whenever I listen to them I remember my sweet Jess. Her memorial inscription is even based on the lyrics of this song and reads: "Oh I tend to disappear here and there, So concentrate and you'll feel me everywhere, If you're lost then just close your eyes, I'll meet you there." It's not really hard to understand, once you kinda sit and think about it. This song for example.. is about a couple in a long distance relationship. Maybe she is away at college and he is still in their hometown.. or he's moved away for a job. In any case, they can't physically be together and so this is his way of comforting her. Their relationship isn't always clear, but the connection between them is so strong and genuine that there is a strong hope that a little (or a lot of) distance can't break them apart. He feels that she is the one God made for him. He tells her that he will meet her in her dreams. She just has to close her eyes and he's already there. No matter where she is, no matter where she goes, he's with her all the way. I suppose you could even say this is a more abstract version of Lonestar's song "Already There"! and.. in a way, Owl City's Technicolor Phase also follows a similar story and theme.
this song reminds me of the time in 4th grade. after school we would hang out together for more than hour, we would never stop talking and nothing was awkward. then last year he moved away because his father applied to work for the army. but before he left he was my boyfriend, i miss him vary much, even though long distance relationships don't really work out well. but im happy because i got to see him last friday!
This is my favorite song from him. There is such a beautiful and peaceful feeling that it gives off. Knowing that Owl City is only Adam Young, it shows how genius he is when it comes to making music. I'm not a fan of auto-tuned voices, but for some reason, it fits very well with the songs he makes and he is only using it for effect. Knowing that every single sound in this song is all him just fascinates me.
