Taemin ws actually kinda offended because people told him he's too feminine and pretty, so Jonghyun wrote a song for him called "PRETTY BOY" and Taemin performed that song together with Kai from EXO. It's so impressive to see that his insecurities turned into his strenghts, now he has a genderless dance style and a girl dance crew :)
I was so happy once he started embracing his androgynous self
I agree, he doesn't care about being masculine or feminine anymore. He is one of the uniquest idols in the kpop industry because of his style and I really love it.

I have so much respect for Taemin. His efforts in his solo career while his hyungs were in the military helped keep SHINee relevant. I mean SHINee is always relevant but seeing as they weren’t active for a while, he didn’t miss any opportunities to mention the group.
Taemin is the kind of celebrity you hear stories about but never believe someone could be like that. How idols are nervous to meet him or start crying after. It’s crazy stuff

As an old Shawol, Taemin will forever be SHINee's and Shawol's baby. He is the definition of cute + evil maknae, his hyungs always have this nervous look on their faces whenever Taemin is about to say something, he is just that random lol. And we love it. He's so cheeky and as you said, he has improved a lot. At times whenever I watches his solo performance, it still is mindblowing for me that he is that same kid with bowl cut hair xD. He barely got any lines back then, but over the years, he's been given more and more. Also you can compare it from SHINee replay, lucifer, juliette korean version to Japanese, so many lines would be distributed to Taemin's. So so proud of him.
In SHINee we have Key who will always try to keep Taemin on his toes, and Taem loves to tease Key the most nowadays. Minho is that guy who will tolerate on him at first but eventually he'll lose it as well XD and then Jjong, who we called Taemin's biggest fan. He is the President of Taemints. Onew? He'll brush of whatever Taemin does. The 91-line brothers will scold off Taemin, while the other 2 older brothers think whatever Taemin does are just odorobel and cute. You see, Taemin doesnt simply improved his artistry over the years, but also his social skills, he used to have his older brothers as his safe haven but after them went off to military, he had to adjust to that. From the shy introverted Taemin, he then would turn his vlive randomly and talk to us fans, now that his brothers are back, he is a boy filled with giddiness, happiness, cheeky and even more adorable. Even Key said Taemin had learned a lot of weird stuff while they werent around. Nowadays watching Taemin on varieties, I would go, "who is this kid?" hahahaha he changed so much. Anyway I am absolutely thankful to Taemin for keeping my SHINee memory in tact while the rest werent available. So, so thankful.
Taemin over the years have improved a lot. He is the embodiment of the best of SHINee. Onew and Jjong's vocal skill, Key's social & variety skill and Minho's confidence + charisma. He learned from the best and embodies the best of the best from his brothers. Its been a pleasure to watch him grow as a person and as an artist.

Hanging out with the beagles are openly nuts and the babies in suoerm probably has alot to do with it. The young ones are so tech and sns savvy, sharing from their lives instead of just the official schedules.

fun fact: when super m was formed, nctzens and exo ls went wild and got angry because of their idols being overworked etc. meanwhile in our shawol fandom, we could finally relax because taemin would get 6 babysitters
edit: it only took a few weeks until he lost his phone and the members noticed and saved it from being lost LOL they recorded that as well, I was crying
The SHINee members are very close as they have been together for a long time and especially Taemin who was so young when they debuted, always received care from the other boys. Taemin and Onew met before debuting and Onew gave Taemin his first singing lessons, which is why Taemin is his number one fan.
The boys even took Taemin to school to prevent other children from assaulting him, as Taemin suffered from bullying.
There are four things to remember about Taemin that are very important:
1) Taemin usually has dual, or even triple, meanings for his lyrics: A) take them as you read them and be happy; or B) delve more deeply to reveal the true meaning.
2) Taemin is a Christian (devout Catholic) so there is also usually a lot of religious imagery, symbolism, metaphors, and allusions within his lyrics and MVs. For example, if you react to his song "Want" you may think Taemin's just tempting you with his beauty. However, it goes much deeper. Taemin is actually retelling the story of Genesis 3 with him as Lucifer with a sprinkling of the salvation message at the very end. You get this when you study the lyrics with certain key words and phrases. You will also often see him cross himself when performing his choreos. This is most apparent in his "Heaven" stages, but also integrated into almost all of his peformances. You just have to watch for it, because he does it subtely.
3) Taemin is DEEP and very intellectual. Don't let his goofiness fool you. He can go from goofy to savage to extremely intelligent philosophical discourse in a heartbeat. Much of what we know about his lyrics come from listening to him explain it on interviews and IG LIVEs. The rest is due to our (fans) research. Who else would concepts for their songs like Stockholm syndrome, Plato's Theory of Forms.
4) Taemin is a chameleon. He changes his persona depending upon what he's doing and who he's with:
Soloist: Sexy and sensual...dangerous
SHINee: Savage, spoiled, adorable maknae. Due to the fault of the constant doting of his SHINee hyungs.
SuperM: Taemresa - the guardian angel of the group and kind, sincere advisor
Just Taemin: Shy, soft tofu with a core of iron (as described by his friend Ravi)

One thing will never change with Taemin. He absolutely adores his older SHINee brothers. When asked about the meaning of a line in the lyrics of his song "Just Me and You", Taemin said that to him it meant that he wanted his SHINee hyungs to always be around him. He wants to buy a building together and have all of them each live on a separate floor so that when they are in their 40's, 50's, and 60's, he will be able to hear them above him, below him and next to him. Always together.

He is 93 line. he's older than me but i always think of him as my younger brother haha. i love his personality too. he said that he's introvert but he gets really active and chaotic whenever he's around with SHINee hyungs. Our Precious Taemin.
One thing they didn't really mention that's really important is how much he focuses on breaking boundaries in dancing, including dismantling gender expectations in choreography, having dancers in his team from a wide range of backgrounds and builds, developing good relationships with his dance teams, and making sure they get recognition in his concerts. The attention Key puts into changing gender expectations in the fashion industry, and Jonghyun did with his writing/speaking, is similarly what Taemin does in the dance realm. It's something that I deeply respect about them.
Yes, you will see in SHINee's early days Taemin didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. People even used to make fun of Taemin's singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc.
And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. That's why in SHINee's first few songs you will see that he only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song.
However, if he was really tone deaf he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. Someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune.
But Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice.
If you notice, Taemin's style of singing, especially in SHINee songs, is a lot like Jonghyun -- SHINee's main vocalist, and one of the best vocalists in the industry. And once you watch more of SHINee, you will see that Taemin fills in for Jonghyun whenever Jonghyun was unable to participate in a performance. And even today, Taemin often takes over the high notes and the parts that I think would probably have been Jonghyun's parts in their new songs. Jonghyun was the one that really took Taemin under his wing and helped him to become the singer and performer that he is today. So, many think that Taemin's voice emulates Jonghyun because he is the one that taught Taemin to sing. Jonghyun has always been Taemin's biggest supporter and the one that rooted for him the hardest and loudest out of anyone.
It is a well known fact among long time fans that for most of SHINee's career Taemin struggled with being an introvert and he often never spoke in interviews and on variety shows unless spoken to. He would let the other members carry the conversation.The members often talk about how they would have to prompt him to get him to speak. He is also known for telling a story or answering a question in an interview and half way through the story, he would stop speaking and just go quiet again. The other members often had to fill in the blanks for him and nudge him to get him to focus and keep on talking.
It wasn't until around 2014 when Taemin had his solo debut and he had to start doing promotions and interviews by himself that he really forced himself to change and to come out of his shell. This was also part of the reason why Taemin struggled with self-image issues, where he worried about the fact that people always saw him as weak and helpless and often only knew him for his looks. This is the reason why Jonghyun wrote "Pretty Boy" for Taemin because Jonghyun wished the public would be able to see and understand the Taemin, he knew as a strong and masculine guy, and to stop looking at him as just a fragile "pretty boy."
This is part of the duality that is Taemin's personality. When not on stage performing, Taemin is a completely different person, and the Taemin you see when he is just hanging out with his members, isn't necessarily what he shows to the general public.
But when Taemin is with the other members of SHINee he often still reverts back to being the baby of the group and just lets the rest of the members take on the responsibility of carrying the conversations in interviews, etc. It is not uncommon to see Taemin off in his own little world during interviews, he even still does it as a member of SuperM. Taemin will always have that maknae mindset no matter who he is with.
It actually isn't that far off that you mistakenly thought Taemin was Kai. They are best friends and they are so much alike that they are actually known as twins -- they are literally almost identical in every way.
Kai and Taemin trained together and went to school together after they joined SM. Taemin is about 6 months older than Kai, so Taemin entered the company first when he was around 11 years old in 2005 and then Kai became a trainee a short time later when he was around 11/12 years old in 2006. However, Taemin debuted almost exactly 4 years before Kai. So even though they are friends from the same generation, Taemin is considered Kai's senior.
Taemin and Kai really do mirror each other in more than just their dancing. :D They are also the youngest/ almost youngest members in their respective groups and their personalities are so similar that it's easy to see why they are so close. And when Kai and Taemin are together it's often as if they share one brain. Which makes them even more cute, sweet and very endearing.
Kai and Taemin are so much alike in looks, same age group, dancing skills, background, family dynamics, personality, etc. -- they even have some of the same mannerisms, personality traits and nicknames. (You really should see some of their pictures together when they were younger you would be surprised how much they look alike.) Taemin is precious
When you said that people probably cried when he sang I’m Crying well, it was 100% accurate. He sang 3 incredible ballads in the middle of his Xtm tour solo concerts and people were sobbing. I was there and I couldn’t help but cry too. Taemin is an amazing artist, he gets a lot of credit for his dancing but his live singing is just as mesmerizing and touching, especially when he sings ballads. He has a very pure and genuine heart and soul and the way he delivers emotions is just honestly heartwarming and heartbreaking. This guide is good, but doesn’t cover half of who Taemin is. Yes, he’s a goofy person who loves joking and having fun, but he is also a very deep, self reflective person, with far above average intelligence. People don’t talk about it enough, but he is a brilliant mathematician who won medals as a kid in mathematics. I really hope you’ll check out some of his b-sides along the way like Rise live performance to get to know him as a complex artist that he is.

seeing taemin as a solo artist and as shinee's maknae is such an experience, I mean aside from the very different concepts, when promoting hes always a sweet and shy guy but with shinee he goes full little brother, the members will just baby him so much no matter what

I’m pretty sure the whole thing was Taemin trolling the assignment.
Taemin is my ult - basically my most favourite person in the whole kpop industry. And he did that within an hour of me just watching behind the scenes and music videos. I just love him so much - his sincere hard (heart) work, love and passion as an artist. He is just fantastic. I started getting into SHINee through him and I absolutely love every single one of them. They are incredible. Kings only (I joined Taemints and Shawols in 2020)
Same for me. I think finding Taemin and his music saved my year 2020. He just has something about him that forces you to feel his emotions. It helped me to say goodbyeto people i lost though the year and move on .

Taemin is very religious. He wears a rosary bracelet at all times. He loves to incorporate a cross necklace or earrings into his stage outfits. On his behind the scenes concert footages, he openly prays before he comes out onstage.
Remember when he said we could do a silent prayer instead.
He also strikes a crucifixion pose in his choreo, with his outstretched arms, and Flame of Love (although maybe not intentional) is also a reference to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (Lapsed Catholic but still around practicing ones).

Seeing Taemin grow up as an artist is such an honor in my opinion, I remember him younger when he almost had to beg the radio host to be able to sing and show the result of his hard training. He is such an inspiration and deserve his fame like no other. It's a privilege to be his fan tbh.

I've been a shawol since day 1 and watching Taemin go from a shy little boy with no lines to the first artist from a group to go solo in SM was an amazing journey. There aren't words to describe how proud I was when his solo debut was announced. How amazed I am to see how much he's grown as an artist and a person. And how much I anticipate watching him continue to grow and evolve as an artist. He's my ult I couldn't be prouder to say that

He was probably still going through puberty so his voice could crack at times so I don't think it was that he was a bad singer. I didn't really notice his singing until Sherlock and then in Misconceptions of You he really went melodic and over the years the distribution of lines became more evened out. In earlier years Jonghyun was singing the most lines and melodies over all the members.
SHINee is always better live. For dancing bops, I would recommended Stranger and Kimi No sei de at the DDD concert,Tokyo Dome and Julliette at SHINee World 5, Seoul. For impressive performances, Everybody at the Tokyo Dome ("I am your boy" concert) and Sherlock Clue Note (SHINee World 4, Seoul). Sweet songs: Love like Oxygen (performance at M countdown) and Replay at SHINee World 4 in Seoul. Amazing harmonies: Sleepless Night live and Kind at the IU Palette. For sexy R&B with a hint of homoerotism, Excuse me Miss (the performance that got me into Kpop). If you like them and want to LOVE them, I would recommend that you watch "Love" with the ending at the Tokyo Dome. This is a feel-good ballad they sang at the end of their first concert in such a large venue and you can see their personalities and bonding among them and with Shawols (the video with the ending is about 7 minutes czcams.com/video/Y8WG38_l4Zg/video.html cut from the concert). I'm kind of mad they didn't mention he's also kind of a genius problem solver and that has won medals on math competitions. he has an excellent memory and spatial intelligence. He also has a very good kinetic intelligence that makes him move the way he does, he's only clumsy because he has tiny hands and cute but very short fingers.
He's fluent in japanese and has a very advanced vocabulary in it.
Also, he's interested in philosophy and Psychology. Idea is based on Plato's Allegory of The Cave (I think that must be the reason he's using the greek pronunciation for the word, instead of english) and Criminal is based on Stockholm Syndrome. In his free time he likes to learn about physics and quantum mechanics.
I highly recommend folks watch walawala's three part series called The Growth of Lee Taemin - it's stunning. I think Taemin had a rough time when he was younger because he is so beautiful, and going through puberty in the public eye is a difficult thing, especially as I suspect a lot of people considered him 'girly' and 'feminine'. I'm so grateful he's in SHINee, because they are...well. it's hard to explain. As you learn more about them, especially their interpersonal relationships, things will become more clear. ETA: Taemin is *very* devout.
For context that last part he was on a Japanese show they asked him what was his stronger feature he said his shoulders, they didn't believe him, one guy touched his shoulder and ssid yes, he is ripped and they brought that bar for a challenge one of the guys there and Taemin, the guy did one chin up and Taemin did callesthenics, he went up amd down just like thst then he did the air stairs and that move.
I don't know who has more duality, Taeminnie when the cameras are so on or off, or I am in doubt between finding him always the cutest baby in the universe and dying of a heart attack when he's performing...

I followed SHINee since Lucifer era, and Taemin's vocal improvement really surprised me a lot! Before his vocal was not shining much to me, but afterwards his vocal really improved a lot and he also started to do more high notes!

You being confused wether it was Kai or Taemin for a second is understandable. Kai was actually seen as Taemin look alike when exo first debuted. Same goes when Jungwoo of NCT, he also resemble Taemin especially his predebut pictures. It's like a Taemin BUT in nct.

Btw, taemin has this song called danger and it's very good! And there's this member from the group THE BOYZ that is a big fan of them and he was interested in becoming an idol after watching EXO-Growl. They also did a cover for the song danger by taemin. I hope you could check some of their music later, they had their lastest japanese digital called Breaking Dawn. I would like to know your opinions on them, but don't feel too pressured okay?
