This was hysterical! I grew up in a Hellmann's family - Miracle Whip NEVER crossed the threshold. My parents are Texans and my daddy on occasion would eat a dollop of mayo by itself...or as a dip using a jalapeno pepper to scoop it up.
SO I DID THE MATH: Using a ranking where 1st place got 4 points and last got 0 points, I added it up. Out of a max of 12 possible points, here is how it broke down: Blue Plate got a score of 10 out of 12 for 1st Place. Hellmann's got a score of 8 out of 12 for 2nd Place. Duke's got a score of 6 out of 12 for 3rd Place. Miracle Whip got a score of 4 out of 12 for 4th place. (Blame Adam.) Kraft got a score of 2 out of 12 for LAST PLACE. If Adam had flipped Kraft with MC, MC would have had no points and Kraft would tie with Duke's.

I'm convinced the majority of people pick favorite foods (spreads and toppings especially) according to whatever they were raised on. It's likely that $ played a big part in the preferred products of a family. In lean years ( the depression), the wife may have had to buy what was cheaper. If the family was doing better than many, displaying on the table a more expensive item was sort of the era's version of a Coach bag. My family was very poor in that era. Miracle Whip cost less, so it was the one my grandmother brought. It's been a widely preferred spread across my family for a long time...I also think the rest is bland goop. I'm pretty sure Miracle Whip would be my preference, but family background may well have played a bigger part. Anyway, whatever the grandparents ate will typically heavily influence one's own preference, as it's what one ate as a child. People should learn to realize that much of what one prefers has much to do with culture (and that includes finances, along with religion, ethnicity, etc.). I loved seeing the cast so vehemently espouse a preference for a product and then not even pick it. One even picked the forbidden Miracle Whip. On a regular basis, I'm forced into mayonnaise and can't tell one from the other. They're all equally bland and tasteless to me. I think it amazing they THOUGHT they knew their preference, but must never have bought the others. I think, to a point, we're all pretty brain washed on certain foods. 🤭🤫
During a trip to the grocery store when the shelves were almost empty I needed mayo and all they had some was weird vegan pseudo-mayo stuff. But then I noticed on the bottom shelf that they had Blue Plate and it was on a buy one get the second for half off deal so I bought a couple of jars. I had never heard of it before but I must admit that it's a solid contender.

A Midwesterner who watches your videos - I LOVE Hellmann's! Never tried Duke's or Blue Plate. Kraft is terrible, and Miracle Whip should be outlawed. Curious now to try some Blue Plate.
As a Michigander by way of Florida (south of the "Southern" part of Florida) i agree to a point. I have tried Dukes, it's currently in my fridge, and it's good, but it's not noticably better or worse than the other big 3. Miracle Whip should not exist, Kraft is fine, I'd say Hellmann's and Dukes are basically equals, but I think the one I like best was never mentioned or tested, Heinz.
I grew up hating mayonnaise and never knew it was just because I was raised on Kraft. I began my adult life eating Miracle Whip (Murkle Whup), which I've hated ever since someone finally introduced me to Hellmann's in my early 20s.

It always cracks me up because I've been a Blue Plate fan for ages and every mayo ranking Blue Plate comes in first and everyone is always so shocked for some reason. I don't understand the Blue Plate hate, it's very reasonably priced and it tastes good.
Right!?! True deep south born and raised southerners were raised on Blue Plate. I never even heard of Duke's until I was in my 30's. Blue Plate is THE best and only real Mayonnaise! 💙
Of the brands in video, I believe Blue Plate is the only brand that just uses egg yolks instead of whole eggs (yolk and white) in their mayonnaise. (even the non-mayonnaise Miracle Whip uses whole eggs). I believe the use of just egg yolks is part of the reason Blue Plate came out on top. Compare Blue Plate with Kewpie Mayonnaise some time; Kewpie only uses egg yolks instead of whole eggs as well. Just using egg yolks gives the mayonnaise a noticeable boost in flavor. I'm pretty sure Hellman's used to only use egg yolks originally but now it's "whole eggs and egg yolk". Kewpie tastes more like how I remember Hellman's tasting in the past -- nowadays Hellman's is a bit bland. A recipe change didn't occur to me until I tried Hellman's Homestyle mayonnaise a couple years ago -- it's a bit more like how I remember Hellman's tasting but not quite there.
Blue Plate is what I grew up with and it has always been my favorite. I knew it was going to be first. (for the ones who's taste buds were working, lol) I will use Dukes if I cannot find Blue Plate. For the short time I lived out of the south, I did use Hellman's. However it was called Best Foods on the west coast. It works if you can't live without mayo, like me.
Hellmanns is good enough to eat right out of the jar....the very big jar that when people see you buying it they think youre the warden at an all girls correctional facility. True.
So just get what’s cheapest. As long as it isn’t Kraft. MW has its place. It’s great on a canned pear, over ONE slice of iceberg lettuce. That dollop goes right in the dip.
It's made with exactly the same ingredients as regular mayo, just with extra spices. So yes, it is mayo. Idc if unpopular opinion. Facts are, it's still made with vinegar, oil, and egg yolks.
Blue plate is the best. My aunt, who gave me her recipe for pimento cheese, says I have surpassed her pimento cheese. She wanted to watch me make it. Two differences were the kind of onion we grated. She uses red and I used sweet. She uses olive oil based mayo and I use Blue Plate.
8 oz block of sharp cheddar cheese, grated 8 oz block of medium cheddar cheese, grated 4 oz pimentos, drained 1 TBSP sweet/Vidalia onion, grated with juice 1 tsp coarse black pepper Mix all together add enough Blue Plate mayonnaise to hold together and I usually add about 1/2 cup more if I’m putting it straight into the fridge because the cheese will soak it up. I don’t eat it. I just make it for family. :) my mom has to be my taste tester.
My mother grew up on a farm in SE Ky. They didn't have electricity, gas, used a wood stove for heat/cooking, carried water from a natural spring. They also used the spring pool to keep perishable foods cold. My mother hated mayo. I bet my grandma made it by whipping it forever like she did cake batter. As a child, I detested miracle whip and refused to eat anything that had it in, or on it. My mother always felt that ppl got poisoned using mayo. I guess they may have if they didn't keep it cold. I love Helmanns for some things and Dukes for others. Sometimes, I just just buy the one that is less expensive. Helmanns usually costs more except if it's on sale. Ty for your vids, I really enjoy them. I'm going to be 73 soon. I still cook in cast iron skillets. I love greens with country ham cooked in, homemade skillet baked cornbread, I can't stand cornmeal that has leavening already added.
First Miracle Whip doesn't claim to be mayonnaise. It's salad dressing. All of those (except Kraft) are fine choices but sorry folks Kewpie is hands down the best.
No. Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise, but for some insane reason people often use it as a substitute. I honestly can't think of any plausible use for Miracle Whip as a food product, and the thought of slathering it on a salad is pretty disgusting.
63 yo Southerner. My parents, bro/sis n I hv always been BLUE PLATE! Tried em all except Miracle (Gro) Whip n always come back to BP! Duke’s has only become a fad recently due to online endorsement by cooks n it just seem to feed upon itself. Now, the Kewpie (Japanese) mayo is doing the same thing. But even it is tastier than Dukes. One solution: try making ur own fresh!
I've ordered Duke's since I was a kid before the "hype." My grandparents also uses JFG which was gross. I tried Blue Plate a couple years ago because I saw people on Facebook talking about how good it was. I thought it was just okay. I would buy it if I couldn't get Duke's or store brand. I guess we all have our preferred mayo.
Perry Malcolm- I agree. It's a lot of hype vs. market area availability and what people are accustomed to. Grew up on Hellmann's but later in life became a JFG fan. Tried Duke's repeatedly and just couldn't grow to like it let alone love it with the fervor others claim. To me it is very bland. That said, I'd eat it with a spoon before I'd cave to Miracle Whip which is only good for its intended purpose- salad dressing
I've always been a Best or Helman's fan (they are the same), I do remember Blue Plate and liking it. Never knowingly tried Duke's but I agree with Kraft and Miracle Whip in last place. I guess I need to find a source of Blue Plate in Arizona since it was way up there.
Miracle Whip is a "dressing"--a mayo with seasoning. That was the closest that I could get to the SS Pierce restaurant "salad dressing" that we used for tuna salad when I worked at Friendly a million years ago. I still use it.
Mayonnaise, made fresh, is _super_ easy to do (~2 minutes) and you can create your own taste profile. Egg yolk, oil, Dijon mustard, seasonings like salt & pepper, some whisking action. Done. Superior to anything in a jar with preservatives.

It was Duke's, but now that all manufacturers use soybean oil to make their mayo my pick is none of the above. Soybean oil hurts my gut, and aggravates my gallbladder. But I really miss tomato and Duke's mayo sandwiches.
Soybean oil is incredibly unhealthy. Its fatty acids break down into a substance that’s highly inflammatory in the gut and can exacerbate digestive issues, and IBS. Too bad, because we love Duke’s but just won’t eat it. We buy avocado oil based Mayo, which is a little heavy for my taste, but healthier.
@@samuelbean9928 I looked up the ingredients for Duke's with olive oil: water, olive oil, canola oil, soybean oil. Canola oil is another red flag oil. We were taught polyunsaturated oils were good for us - but they're not as they are very inflammatory (as is corn, sunflower - and possibly safflower but I just haven't done the research on that. You can buy high oleic sunflower and safflower which are somewhat safer to use). We use Chosen Foods avocado mayo. Sadly, I much prefer the taste of Duke's, but given how many tuna and turkey sandwiches I eat - I refuse to consume that much polyunsaturated oil.
FYI, Hellmann's and Best Foods are the exact same product. Hellmann's is marketed to eastern US and Best Foods is marketed to western US. It even shows both names on the jar. I am partial to Best Foods/Hellman's myself. I had a friend tell me to use only Hellmann's for her potato salad recipe. She had no idea it was one in the same.
Loved this episode!❤ I loved that the mayonnaise loving contestants ranked everything pretty much the same except ranked the other person's favorite ahead of their own, and that's okay! Maybe they still really like their "own" brand but also recognize another good brand and maybe like variety. And since I trust their taste buds I want to try this "Blue Plate" now! As far as Adam, he admitted from the start that all mayonnaise tasted the same to him and that he was "no respector" of any particular one. So maybe it's fine that he picked Miracle Whip! I won't trust his tastebuds however because I despise miracle whip, but I will eat it if there is no mayo at all. Funny how everyone agreed on Kraft being last. Dukes. I had no idea that they made any other kind of mayonnaise. When I go to the grocery store all I see is Duke's that's why I grab it. It's been like that my whole life... I may have a blind spot for it. That being said after 50 years I ain't going to change now. When you find the best you stick with it.

If you haven't guessed, I'm from New Jersey. Hellmann's is my mayo of choice. I've never had Duke's or Blue plate or Kewpie. My go to sandwich is rye bread , sliced ham , swiss cheese, Mayo and spicey brown mustard.
As an Englishman, I would always have said Helmann’s (Duke’s isn’t an option this side of the Pond), but then we tried a Polish brand called Winiary. Clear winner for half the price.

Was surprised to learn Reily Foods moved Blue Plate mayo production to their plant in Knoxville, back in 2000. I could swear the label still says 'New Orleans' ... maybe b/c Reily Foods HQ is still there.
Blue Plate is the best, in my opinion. Liz and Ryan proved that. All I can do is pray for poor Adam. I just wish that it was easier to get my beloved Blue Plate here in Wyoming (originally from Georgia).
I can taste Miracle Whip even if my taste buds are shot, nasty stuff. Blue Plate is pretty good, I love Duke's for potato or mac salad. My goto is Hellmann's, Kraft is probably the worst "mayo" on the market.

I was shocked that they even mentioned Blue Plate. I’m born and raised in Louisiana, where BP was created. It’s all my grandparents and parents ever used. I still use it, but have switched to the olive oil variety. Just as good, in my opinion. Got my cholesterol down, as well!
I was raised on Blue Plate mayonnaise and Mt. Olive pickles. When I gave Duke's to my family a few years ago, they gave it an enthusiastic 👍 ! Duke's has been our mayonnaise ever since.
Growing up in NY and living in KY last 20 years, have always been a Hellman's absolutist. My KY soldiers made me do a blind taste test about 7 years ago. Hellman's, Duke's, Kraft, and then that nasty Miracle Whip was the ranking I ended up with. Also me, never heard of Blue Plate, and will now seek it out. 62 and still not opposed to change.
I love Miracle Whip but fully acknowledge that it is not a traditional mayo. It needs to be in its own category. It’s perfectly acceptable to have a jar of regular mayo and MW in the fridge as their own separate condiments.
Blue Plate is the only true mayonnaise using egg yolks ONLY and no egg whites. Even America's Test Kitchen rates it as the best, but say they can't get it up north. Miracle Whip is technically a salad dressing.
I think a lot depends on what you grew up with. There were lots of allergies in my family. My mother bought Miracle Whip (thinking it was egg free). So, I never ate mayonnaise until college. It wasn't better, it was just different. To this day, 50 years later, I still prefer Miracle Whip, because it's what I'm used to.
As a Russian, we love Mayo, but Winiary is the best. :) Edit: When I moved to Texas to be with my now Husband and kept going to parties everyone kept asking about the various potato, macaroni, egg, etc salads and people kept wondering what/how I made them. Slowly, I've started converting people to Winiary.

Feel exactly the same way. I can't differentiate between brands because its not the main flavor in a sandwich or burger. Same for salads - there's too many other things going on.
I'm in East TN. Never heard of Blue Plate. I'll have to look for it. For over 3 decades I didn't care which mayo I had, so long as it was either Dukes or Hellman's. Then about 3 to 4 years ago, Duke's changed something. Now if I can't have Hellman's- I'll do without.
I recently discovered Blue Plate, and absolutely love it. Bought a jar of Dukes the other day since everyone raves about it, and was severely disappointed. Glad to see that taste tests confirm my thoughts :)

Blue Plate is definitely the best mayo! I've always heard how good Dukes was but it wasn't available in my area. I'm not a fan of the others but I'll eat it if I have to. With that being said I was recently in Pennsylvania and tried Duke's and it's now my second favorite mayo.

I've never had Duke's even though I used to live in Kentucky and I've never heard of Blue Plate. I usually buy Best Foods brand of mayo. It's the same company as Hellman's, just sold on the west side of the US. It's the same as Carl's Jr and Hardees, same company just different names depending on where you're located.
I've lived in Kentucky my whole life and never saw Duke's anywhere here until the last few years. I had heard so much about how good Duke's was I had to try it, and I don't like it at all. I thought it tasted nasty and I was so disappointed.
I found that Duke's is a very assertive Mayonnaise, & doesn't do well by itself, or applications where the mayo needs to be subtle. However when combined with other aggressive flavors it really shines. So for subtle applications I use Blue Plate, & for an extra tangy application I use Duke's
My husband had the same problem. Also from Arkansas. They didn't have Duke's anywhere to be found. Now that he's safely in Florida he knows better! Lol
So my mom REFUSES to eat mayo, she ONLY uses Miracle Whip, and I prefer mayo. I learned to appreciate Miracle Whip for what it is, a sandwich spread that happens to be white like mayo but uses paprika. I have never heard of Blue Plate mayo. It must be good. I grew up on Hellmann's, I'm a Hellmann's girl. I've been wanting to taste Dukes & see what all the hype is about. They don't sell it where I live, I purchased a bottle when I was visiting a friend. I'm going to use it in a potato salad, & see what all the hype is about.
I thought I hated mayonnaise when I was a child. Only much later did I realize it was really Miracle Whip I despised, because we used Miracle Whip exclusively as a mayonnaise, and even called it mayonnaise! Thankfully, I learned better at some point. I’m looking forward to trying Blue Plate now.
My GRAMMA used Miracle Whip so end of story. Matt, your taste buds are first class, world class, first in show. I can also appreciate mayo, especially homemade. But this isn't an either / or subject - it's AND: MW is excellent in almost everything including: deviled eggs, homemade mustard potato salad, bologna sandwiches, tuna salad, and even scrambled eggs.

We just started getting Duke's up north here a few years ago. Because of your videos I tried it, and I liked it. Now, if we had Blue Plate, I would try it also :)
@@KenS1267 I have a jar of it in my pantry. I'm in Florida. Publix sells it and so does WM. It's really good. I was raised on Hellmann's. Blue Plate is as good as Hellmann's and IMO both are better than Duke's. I'm not saying Duke's isn't good. It is. It's just not the best.
I’m not a Mayo person and my go to is Miracle Whip (I know I know that’s gunna get hate) but my go to to buy is Hellmans in my area. I always make everything by mixing both Mayo and Miracle Whip in my recipes. I have to get the top brand since I think I’ll really hate the taste even more if I don’t. Haven’t tried some of those brands.

No. They use their bland mayo with all the other ingredients I use and still expect their potato salad to taste like mine. It doesn't. A few years ago I was invited to a July 4th party in Buckhead (Atlanta/money). I was asked to bring deviled eggs, which got rave reviews and gobbled up immediately - dont think my husband even got one! Didn't have the heart to tell them I used Miracle Whip.
I've tried ALL those mayos but I could never find Dukes; I live in the West Coast...well I saw it a grocery store brand named Ralph's. I used to think, " How different can it be?" Oh my LORD, when I say it's the best, it is...what I don't like in some mayo is the strong eggy / vinegar after taste...the way Duke's makes their mayo is a perfect balance, it has flavor that Miracle Whip wishes it has. I didn't tell my family I switched my mayo brand when I made some egg salad for lunch. They were full of compliments saying they really liked the salad and "where" I bought it. I told them I made it, and used a different brand for the mayo. They said, "Don't use any other than Duke's mayo." lol. I have this video
I grew up in a household that considered mayonnaise as a food group. And that food group consists only of Hellmann's (Best Food west of the Rockies). I only bought Miracle Whip because my boyfriend of 32 1/2 years liked Miracle Whip. I would buy a 32 ounce jar of Best Foods and an 8 ounce jar of Miracle Whip.
You say that like it's an insult, but the reality is that Miracle Whip can't be called mayo becausae legally you can't season mayo. Mayo is supposed to be bland, but Miracle Whip isn't bland. So, you like the flavorless one.
Adam, don't worry about the Miracle Whip debacle. My mother loved Miracle Whip, and my dad loves Hellmans. They were married for 24 years (when my mother passed away). If they can live in a mixed household, I'm sure you'll be fine. As for me? I prefer Hellmans, but I'm not really tied to any mayo. I'll even eat Miracle Whip. But if I'm shopping and cooking, it's not Miracle Whip. It's also not Kroger's Brand, either. That stuff is runny like egg snot.
Hey Adam, I’m from the South, Lower Alabama and Miracle Whip isn’t bad. Sometimes you want something a little bit different on a sandwich and it’s not a bad thing. Although if you try to replace mayonnaise with it on potato salad, you will definitely have to relocate out of the south.
Miracle Whip is questionable at best as being a mayonnaise. Technically it's classified as a dressing. I've had Duke's twice in my life (that I'm aware of). Both times it tasted like the oil in it was old. Hellmann's is fine, but I'm not crazy about the texture. I've never tasted Blue Plate (that I'm aware of), so I can't comment on it. I don't care what anyone says, my favorite is Kraft's mayo. It's so smooth and creamy. I'd like to point out that it got low ratings here NOT because of its taste, but because it's "too white". That's no way to rate something in a "taste" test. Finally, when they began stocking Heinz Mayo around here I tried it and loved it. It replaced Kraft as my "go to" mayo. But then they turned back around and stopped stocking it. So I went back to Kraft. I'm going to buy some Blue Plate and see what I think.

I'm convinced the majority of people pick favorite foods (spreads and toppings especially) according to whatever they were raised on. It's likely that $ played a big part in the preferred products of a family. In lean years ( the depression), the wife may have had to buy what was cheaper. If the family was doing better than many, displaying on the table a more expensive item was sort of the era's version of a Coach bag. My family was very poor in that era. Miracle Whip cost less, so it was the one my grandmother brought. It's been a widely preferred spread across my family for a long time...I also think the rest is bland goop. I'm pretty sure Miracle Whip would be my preference, but family background may well have played a bigger part. Anyway, whatever the grandparents ate will typically heavily influence one's own preference, as it's what one ate as a child. People should learn to realize that much of what one prefers has much to do with culture (and that includes finances, along with religion, ethnicity, etc.). I loved seeing the cast so vehemently espouse a preference for a product and then not even pick it. One even picked the forbidden Miracle Whip. On a regular basis, I'm forced into mayonnaise and can't tell one from the other. They're all equally bland and tasteless to me. I think it amazing they THOUGHT they knew their preference, but must never have bought the others. I think, to a point, we're all pretty brain washed on certain foods. 🤭🤫

During a trip to the grocery store when the shelves were almost empty I needed mayo and all they had some was weird vegan pseudo-mayo stuff. But then I noticed on the bottom shelf that they had Blue Plate and it was on a buy one get the second for half off deal so I bought a couple of jars. I had never heard of it before but I must admit that it's a solid contender.

A Midwesterner who watches your videos - I LOVE Hellmann's! Never tried Duke's or Blue Plate. Kraft is terrible, and Miracle Whip should be outlawed. Curious now to try some Blue Plate.
As a Michigander by way of Florida (south of the "Southern" part of Florida) i agree to a point. I have tried Dukes, it's currently in my fridge, and it's good, but it's not noticably better or worse than the other big 3. Miracle Whip should not exist, Kraft is fine, I'd say Hellmann's and Dukes are basically equals, but I think the one I like best was never mentioned or tested, Heinz.
I grew up hating mayonnaise and never knew it was just because I was raised on Kraft. I began my adult life eating Miracle Whip (Murkle Whup), which I've hated ever since someone finally introduced me to Hellmann's in my early 20s.

It always cracks me up because I've been a Blue Plate fan for ages and every mayo ranking Blue Plate comes in first and everyone is always so shocked for some reason. I don't understand the Blue Plate hate, it's very reasonably priced and it tastes good.

Of the brands in video, I believe Blue Plate is the only brand that just uses egg yolks instead of whole eggs (yolk and white) in their mayonnaise. (even the non-mayonnaise Miracle Whip uses whole eggs). I believe the use of just egg yolks is part of the reason Blue Plate came out on top.
Compare Blue Plate with Kewpie Mayonnaise some time; Kewpie only uses egg yolks instead of whole eggs as well. Just using egg yolks gives the mayonnaise a noticeable boost in flavor.
I'm pretty sure Hellman's used to only use egg yolks originally but now it's "whole eggs and egg yolk". Kewpie tastes more like how I remember Hellman's tasting in the past -- nowadays Hellman's is a bit bland. A recipe change didn't occur to me until I tried Hellman's Homestyle mayonnaise a couple years ago -- it's a bit more like how I remember Hellman's tasting but not quite there.

Blue Plate is what I grew up with and it has always been my favorite. I knew it was going to be first. (for the ones who's taste buds were working, lol) I will use Dukes if I cannot find Blue Plate. For the short time I lived out of the south, I did use Hellman's. However it was called Best Foods on the west coast. It works if you can't live without mayo, like me.
Hellmanns is good enough to eat right out of the jar....the very big jar that when people see you buying it they think youre the warden at an all girls correctional facility. True.

It's made with exactly the same ingredients as regular mayo, just with extra spices. So yes, it is mayo. Idc if unpopular opinion. Facts are, it's still made with vinegar, oil, and egg yolks.

Blue plate is the best. My aunt, who gave me her recipe for pimento cheese, says I have surpassed her pimento cheese. She wanted to watch me make it. Two differences were the kind of onion we grated. She uses red and I used sweet. She uses olive oil based mayo and I use Blue Plate.
But what kind of bread? And do you toast it?
8 oz block of sharp cheddar cheese, grated
8 oz block of medium cheddar cheese, grated
4 oz pimentos, drained
1 TBSP sweet/Vidalia onion, grated with juice
1 tsp coarse black pepper
Mix all together add enough Blue Plate mayonnaise to hold together and I usually add about 1/2 cup more if I’m putting it straight into the fridge because the cheese will soak it up.
I don’t eat it. I just make it for family. :) my mom has to be my taste tester.

My mother grew up on a farm in SE Ky. They didn't have electricity, gas, used a wood stove for heat/cooking, carried water from a natural spring. They also used the spring pool to keep perishable foods cold. My mother hated mayo. I bet my grandma made it by whipping it forever like she did cake batter. As a child, I detested miracle whip and refused to eat anything that had it in, or on it. My mother always felt that ppl got poisoned using mayo. I guess they may have if they didn't keep it cold. I love Helmanns for some things and Dukes for others. Sometimes, I just just buy the one that is less expensive. Helmanns usually costs more except if it's on sale. Ty for your vids, I really enjoy them. I'm going to be 73 soon. I still cook in cast iron skillets. I love greens with country ham cooked in, homemade skillet baked cornbread, I can't stand cornmeal that has leavening already added.
First Miracle Whip doesn't claim to be mayonnaise. It's salad dressing. All of those (except Kraft) are fine choices but sorry folks Kewpie is hands down the best.

No. Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise, but for some insane reason people often use it as a substitute. I honestly can't think of any plausible use for Miracle Whip as a food product, and the thought of slathering it on a salad is pretty disgusting.

I've ordered Duke's since I was a kid before the "hype." My grandparents also uses JFG which was gross. I tried Blue Plate a couple years ago because I saw people on Facebook talking about how good it was. I thought it was just okay. I would buy it if I couldn't get Duke's or store brand. I guess we all have our preferred mayo.
Perry Malcolm- I agree. It's a lot of hype vs. market area availability and what people are accustomed to. Grew up on Hellmann's but later in life became a JFG fan. Tried Duke's repeatedly and just couldn't grow to like it let alone love it with the fervor others claim. To me it is very bland. That said, I'd eat it with a spoon before I'd cave to Miracle Whip which is only good for its intended purpose- salad dressing

Miracle Whip is a "dressing"--a mayo with seasoning. That was the closest that I could get to the SS Pierce restaurant "salad dressing" that we used for tuna salad when I worked at Friendly a million years ago. I still use it.

Mayonnaise, made fresh, is _super_ easy to do (~2 minutes) and you can create your own taste profile. Egg yolk, oil, Dijon mustard, seasonings like salt & pepper, some whisking action. Done. Superior to anything in a jar with preservatives.

It was Duke's, but now that all manufacturers use soybean oil to make their mayo my pick is none of the above. Soybean oil hurts my gut, and aggravates my gallbladder. But I really miss tomato and Duke's mayo sandwiches.

Soybean oil is incredibly unhealthy. Its fatty acids break down into a substance that’s highly inflammatory in the gut and can exacerbate digestive issues, and IBS. Too bad, because we love Duke’s but just won’t eat it. We buy avocado oil based Mayo, which is a little heavy for my taste, but healthier.
How about Dukes with olive oil?

@@samuelbean9928 I looked up the ingredients for Duke's with olive oil: water, olive oil, canola oil, soybean oil. Canola oil is another red flag oil. We were taught polyunsaturated oils were good for us - but they're not as they are very inflammatory (as is corn, sunflower - and possibly safflower but I just haven't done the research on that. You can buy high oleic sunflower and safflower which are somewhat safer to use). We use Chosen Foods avocado mayo. Sadly, I much prefer the taste of Duke's, but given how many tuna and turkey sandwiches I eat - I refuse to consume that much polyunsaturated oil.
FYI, Hellmann's and Best Foods are the exact same product. Hellmann's is marketed to eastern US and Best Foods is marketed to western US. It even shows both names on the jar. I am partial to Best Foods/Hellman's myself. I had a friend tell me to use only Hellmann's for her potato salad recipe. She had no idea it was one in the same.
Loved this episode!❤ I loved that the mayonnaise loving contestants ranked everything pretty much the same except ranked the other person's favorite ahead of their own, and that's okay! Maybe they still really like their "own" brand but also recognize another good brand and maybe like variety. And since I trust their taste buds I want to try this "Blue Plate" now! As far as Adam, he admitted from the start that all mayonnaise tasted the same to him and that he was "no respector" of any particular one. So maybe it's fine that he picked Miracle Whip! I won't trust his tastebuds however because I despise miracle whip, but I will eat it if there is no mayo at all. Funny how everyone agreed on Kraft being last. Dukes. I had no idea that they made any other kind of mayonnaise. When I go to the grocery store all I see is Duke's that's why I grab it. It's been like that my whole life... If you haven't guessed, I'm from New Jersey. Hellmann's is my mayo of choice. I've never had Duke's or Blue plate or Kewpie. My go to sandwich is rye bread , sliced ham , swiss cheese, Mayo and spicey brown mustard.

Kraft is what you buy when you want a lot of something at a cheap price but you aren't picky about quality or flavor.

I was shocked that they even mentioned Blue Plate. I’m born and raised in Louisiana, where BP was created. It’s all my grandparents and parents ever used. I still use it, but have switched to the olive oil variety. Just as good, in my opinion. Got my cholesterol down, as well!

I was raised on Blue Plate mayonnaise and Mt. Olive pickles. When I gave Duke's to my family a few years ago, they gave it an enthusiastic 👍 ! Duke's has been our mayonnaise ever since.

Growing up in NY and living in KY last 20 years, have always been a Hellman's absolutist. My KY soldiers made me do a blind taste test about 7 years ago. Hellman's, Duke's, Kraft, and then that nasty Miracle Whip was the ranking I ended up with. Also me, never heard of Blue Plate, and will now seek it out. 62 and still not opposed to change.
I love Miracle Whip but fully acknowledge that it is not a traditional mayo. It needs to be in its own category. It’s perfectly acceptable to have a jar of regular mayo and MW in the fridge as their own separate condiments.

Blue Plate is the only true mayonnaise using egg yolks ONLY and no egg whites. Even America's Test Kitchen rates it as the best, but say they can't get it up north. Miracle Whip is technically a salad dressing.
I think a lot depends on what you grew up with. There were lots of allergies in my family. My mother bought Miracle Whip (thinking it was egg free). So, I never ate mayonnaise until college. It wasn't better, it was just different. To this day, 50 years later, I still prefer Miracle Whip, because it's what I'm used to.
As a Russian, we love Mayo, but Winiary is the best. :)
Edit: When I moved to Texas to be with my now Husband and kept going to parties everyone kept asking about the various potato, macaroni, egg, etc salads and people kept wondering what/how I made them. Slowly, I've started converting people to Winiary.

Feel exactly the same way. I can't differentiate between brands because its not the main flavor in a sandwich or burger. Same for salads - there's too many other things going on.
I don't think mayonnaise is that special, but some mayonnaise is literally so bland it makes the rest of the sandwich bland.
I'm a Hellmann's guy through and through. Know as Best on the Westcoast, the best potato salad you can make, uses Hellmann's. :)

I'm in East TN. Never heard of Blue Plate. I'll have to look for it. For over 3 decades I didn't care which mayo I had, so long as it was either Dukes or Hellman's. Then about 3 to 4 years ago, Duke's changed something. Now if I can't have Hellman's- I'll do without.

Blue Plate is definitely the best mayo! I've always heard how good Dukes was but it wasn't available in my area. I'm not a fan of the others but I'll eat it if I have to. With that being said I was recently in Pennsylvania and tried Duke's and it's now my second favorite mayo.

I've never had Duke's even though I used to live in Kentucky and I've never heard of Blue Plate. I usually buy Best Foods brand of mayo. It's the same company as Hellman's, just sold on the west side of the US. It's the same as Carl's Jr and Hardees, same company just different names depending on where you're located.
I've lived in Kentucky my whole life and never saw Duke's anywhere here until the last few years. I had heard so much about how good Duke's was I had to try it, and I don't like it at all. I thought it tasted nasty and I was so disappointed.

I found that Duke's is a very assertive Mayonnaise, & doesn't do well by itself, or applications where the mayo needs to be subtle. However when combined with other aggressive flavors it really shines. So for subtle applications I use Blue Plate, & for an extra tangy application I use Duke's
Don't sweat it too much, Adam. My dad, who's an Arkansas native, prefers MW to real mayo. He's wrong, but it can happen to Southerners.
My husband had the same problem. Also from Arkansas. They didn't have Duke's anywhere to be found. Now that he's safely in Florida he knows better! Lol

I learned to appreciate Miracle Whip for what it is, a sandwich spread that happens to be white like mayo but uses paprika. And Kraft makes it, so it's probably just mayo with paprika or their mayo is just Miracle Whip without paprika lol

I thought I hated mayonnaise when I was a child. Only much later did I realize it was really Miracle Whip I despised, because we used Miracle Whip exclusively as a mayonnaise, and even called it mayonnaise! Thankfully, I learned better at some point. I’m looking forward to trying Blue Plate now.

My GRAMMA used Miracle Whip so end of story. Matt, your taste buds are first class, world class, first in show. I can also appreciate mayo, especially homemade. But this isn't an either / or subject - it's AND: MW is excellent in almost everything including: deviled eggs, homemade mustard potato salad, bologna sandwiches, tuna salad, and even scrambled eggs.

That all said, I'll eat mayo if it's on a sandwich but if I have a choice, I go for the Whip of Miracles!

I have used Blue Plate more than Hellman's due to the price most times. They're interchangeable to me. Duke's tastes like egg salad to me.

Yes, I grew up using Miracle Whip! We only used real mayo when making other salad dressings. Even for tuna or egg salads we used M W!
We just started getting Duke's up north here a few years ago. Because of your videos I tried it, and I liked it. Now, if we had Blue Plate, I would try it also :)

The only place I find Blue Plate in Texas (D/FW area) is at Wal-Mart. It's legit. Duke's is also good.

@@KenS1267 I have a jar of it in my pantry. I'm in Florida. Publix sells it and so does WM. It's really good. I was raised on Hellmann's. Blue Plate is as good as Hellmann's and IMO both are better than Duke's. I'm not saying Duke's isn't good. It is. It's just not the best.

I’m not a Mayo person and my go to is Miracle Whip (I know I know that’s gunna get hate) but my go to to buy is Hellmans in my area. I always make everything by mixing both Mayo and Miracle Whip in my recipes. I have to get the top brand since I think I’ll really hate the taste even more if I don’t. Haven’t tried some of those brands.
The "secret" of my grandma's potato salad is mixing Helmann's and Miracle Whip!
I'm known for my chicken salad. I use Miracle Whip and I always will. It would not even come close to my chicken salad if I used mayo.

No. They use their bland mayo with all the other ingredients I use and still expect their potato salad to taste like mine. It doesn't. Miracle Whip is my favorite, always will be, and I'm not ashamed to say it.

A few years ago I was invited to a July 4th party in Buckhead (Atlanta/money). I was asked to bring deviled eggs, which got rave reviews and gobbled up immediately - dont think my husband even got one! Didn't have the heart to tell them I used Miracle Whip.
I've tried ALL those mayos but I could never find Dukes; I live in the West Coast...well I saw it a grocery store brand named Ralph's. I used to think, " How different can it be?" Oh my LORD, when I say it's the best, it is...what I don't like in some mayo is the strong eggy / vinegar after taste...the way Duke's makes their mayo is a perfect balance, it has flavor that Miracle Whip wishes it has. I didn't tell my family I switched my mayo brand when I made some egg salad for lunch. They were full of compliments saying they really liked the salad and "where" I bought it. I told them I made it, and used a different brand for the mayo. They said, "Don't use any other than Duke's mayo." lol. I have this video

Duke's or nothing. Heinz is a decent substitute if you absolutely cannot get Duke's.

I grew up in a household that considered mayonnaise as a food group. And that food group consists only of Hellmann's (Best Food west of the Rockies). I only bought Miracle Whip because my boyfriend of 32 1/2 years liked Miracle Whip. I would buy a 32 ounce jar of Best Foods and an 8 ounce jar of Miracle Whip.

You say that like it's an insult, but the reality is that Miracle Whip can't be called mayo becausae legally you can't season mayo. Mayo is supposed to be bland, but Miracle Whip isn't bland. So, you like the flavorless one.

Adam, don't worry about the Miracle Whip debacle. My mother loved Miracle Whip, and my dad loves Hellmans. They were married for 24 years (when my mother passed away). If they can live in a mixed household, I'm sure you'll be fine.
As for me? I prefer Hellmans, but I'm not really tied to any mayo. I'll even eat Miracle Whip. But if I'm shopping and cooking, it's not Miracle Whip. It's also not Kroger's Brand, either. That stuff is runny like egg snot.
My grandma was actually cremated and put in a Duke’s Mayonnaise jar. Im legally obligated to love it.
Hey Adam, I’m from the South, Lower Alabama and Miracle Whip isn’t bad. Sometimes you want something a little bit different on a sandwich and it’s not a bad thing. Although if you try to replace mayonnaise with it on potato salad, you will definitely have to relocate out of the south.
I liked Miracle Whip when it had sugar and oil. Now there is a bunch of junk in it. Soybean oil and High Fructose! Yuck.
Miracle Whip is questionable at best as being a mayonnaise. Technically it's classified as a dressing.
I've had Duke's twice in my life (that I'm aware of). Both times it tasted like the oil in it was old.
Hellmann's is fine, but I'm not crazy about the texture.
I've never tasted Blue Plate (that I'm aware of), so I can't comment on it.
I don't care what anyone says, my favorite is Kraft's mayo. It's so smooth and creamy. I'd like to point out that it got low ratings here NOT because of its taste, but because it's "too white". That's no way to rate something in a "taste" test.
Finally, when they began stocking Heinz Mayo around here I tried it and loved it. It replaced Kraft as my "go to" mayo. But then they turned back around and stopped stocking it. So I went back to Kraft.
I'm going to buy some Blue Plate and see what I think.
