Unwind the steering early, keep changing your hand position when it's safe, so you don't get arm ache!

I too have a right hand drive Willy jeep and it's my right arm which is damaged (difficult to raise it) so must change gears with my left hand. Will I be able to use it for ease of turning? I don't have power steering. It is of course a manual gear so must use my left arm for changing gears. Will this be a problem?

I don’t need ow how to stop feeling such fatigue in my left arm. I have muscle fatigue anyway but driving makes it so hard! I’m worried about moving it to the 8 o’clock position because I will then be always pushing the steering wheel up. Any advice? X

It might be worth visiting a driving assessment centre such as www.rdac.co.uk for personalised advice.

Hi, another thing you can try is adjusting your driving seat distance from the steering wheel and also the height of the seat. If the seat is too high or too low, it can make a very big difference fatigue wise. If the seat is too far back, ditto and also the distance of the seat is important if you are doing a lot of tight cornering or longer distance driving. I have also adjusted my pivot bracket between 10 and 8 o'clock, I always come back to 10. Another option if you are using a spinner knob is try a leather wrist glove that has a pin through it, which is identical to what the spinner knob has.
