Found an overturned nest next to my driveway.
Inside a 5-6 day old hatchling. Put him back in some high bushes but the parents never made it back.
He is now 12 days - eating a mix of moistened puppy chow with egg yolk, Gerber baby formula, berries and banana.
Tomorrow he has to start learning to pick worms off the ground. Then a sad goodbye. :)
The last of my brood left the nest yesterday morning. Mama built her best in the corner of the windowsill outside my Guest Bedroom, so we have been able to watch, and I took live stills with my phone, of each stage. I even placed a few tasty worms and grubs up on the sill, which she feed to her brood of 4. She laid her eggs over 2 days, and #1 fledged on Wednesday and the other 3 yesterday. I was lucky - I had gone in to check, and carefully tucked my phone under the blind to get the photo. 20 minutes later they were out of the nest - never to return. We have a cedar hedge just under and to the side of their nest, so they are all in there. We can hear them when Mom comes with food. It's incredible how quickly the go from egg to fledgling. Nice distraction from Covid-19. 👍🐣💜🐦
The last one was like. I’m no fool. I’m taking my easy meal and no one to fight with for it.
The Mama Robin will continue to feed her babies once they leave the nest. You will see them in the yard doing a little wing fluttering dance...and you will see the Mama feed them! I love watching them!
Also...if, on a warm day, you have your hose on misting..or a sprinkler..the robins will shower in it! Its fun watching them.

For some reason I think it's very satisfying seeing the parents come with a full beak of bugs for the babies! It makes me feel like they were able to get a nice meal!

Well, three years have gone by since your comment and mine. Like you, I woke up this morning @ 6:30 am EDT and the babies had all flown the coop! I rather thought last night I might not be seeing them today; but hoped I might get one last glimpse. I believe they were all about 23 to 27 days old. When I first started watching the nest, Mama bird was clearly hatching the eggs. It was easy to see they had hatched on different days. A week ago they ranged from pink with brown splotches to a light tan to dark brown. I went out last night and Mama let me watch her foraging for food and feeding them. A bush under the nest, which was on top of my patio light, had ripe red berries which she enjoyed and was feeding her babies. To the cameraman who took these videos: I am grateful (as was the person to whom I am actually writing) to see what occurs when they are figuring out how to leave the nest. My last glimpse was last night.
They were sleeping earlier in the evening; by 9ish EDT, Two were awake, peering out of the nest. I couldn't help but wonder if the siblings were pondering their first flight for morning! What an amazing experience the last month has been for this human! Thanks again for your videography and helping me close their and my "robin birth and development" chapter! I would love to find and watch more of your work!
I’ve been coming home every night to watch the nest outside my living room window. Who knew it would be so entertaining. I know they’re gonna leave then what am I gonna do?
This is SO wonderful! I’ve been watching a robin’s nest in a tree in our yard, but it’s up about 10 feet, in the shade and hard to see. Knowing that robins and most birds fledge when they are fully grown, I wondered how the family could all fit in such a small nest. Now I know. Amazing! Thank you!

"No more free worms!" Wrong, the parents still feed them up to a certain point after the chicks leave the nest.
I believe I saw parents giving their chicks hunting lessons on the ground about a week ago.

I was cleaning my window when the last robin was about to fly and I startled it and flew away. The adult robins seemed angry and one flew towards me. Will the momma abandon that last one? I also put out pieces of apple for them. Is this ok? Might you know?
@@evemiranda3474 They weren't prepared to see it off just yet. They seem to call the little ones on overcast days to reduce the threats of hawks and crows. They have to make it tp some other cover as they can't fly too long or far. They parents guide them along, along with parents of other ones if threatened. They work as a team to push the risky bird off and they're quite aggressive. You really don't want to feed them, as they need to break from that location qiickly. Parents will help them out as long as you stay away...
I just had 4 little ones, under my rear upper deck, there every year, left Weds the 2nd. I try to watch out for them as my pool is next to the deck. I was awake 7am, but three tried to leave before that. A crow or hawk got one right on my deck, feathers were there with more. I think the other two got away for then anyway. Last one left in tbe afternoon. I was home, heard parents trying to drive something off. It was a crow in mearby woods, it didn't look to have got it, I clapped to scare it off. I could here the baby bird chirp before it left. I saw one in front after or two or three.long road ahead for them.
Right, daddies run a daycare in nearby trees to help them learn to live on their own. ❤
The mom and dad actually keep feeding the babies for another week after they fly from the nest. They spend a week on the ground growing and gaining more strength to be able to fly. Mom and dad are able to find them all and feed them during that time because they stay in the same vicinity.

Saved a fledgling from a cat the other morning..in a temp nest box by itself but parents are still flying in to feed it. Will give it another 24 hours or so and see if it is ready to fly rather than walk and hop. Plenty of cats around here.
Thank you, that was the info I was looking for! We have chicks and cats! We noticed the Robins getting loud and then realized we had chicks walking around. We thought we had to rescue them but now I understand better. One is in the field next to us so a little safer, another is in our back yard. If the chick jumps down again, we'll put it out in the field. I was worried but now I see mom and dad will find them and feed them!
@@seaton91pix I ended up making a temporary nest box as the poor little thing was just not ready to fly.
The parents carried on feeding and 3 mornings later he took off.
It does wrestle with your conscience as what to do for the best but the most important thing is,that you actually care..kudos to you.
@@jerrydelaney6971 We're watching ... they're not typically ready to fly. They stay on the ground for a few days if not longer. I didn't know either. Now I understand ... mom and dad stand on the wall with food and call for them. They find them. We finally got to see that last night. I was so worried because one of them was on the other side of the fence. It's doing well, getting stronger, up on another fence!
I find it so adorable how they all pop up like that when mom comes home!
I have three (originally four, one baby fell out early this morning, I believe ;-;) babies, I've been watching them every couple hours to see how it's going and good lord, they are _loud!_
We just had a nest of robins on our porch, nice and low where we could look into it. 4 hatched, 4 grew, and 4 just flew off a couple days ago. What a great blessing to watch them grow every day. So cute ;o)

I had to bury a baby robin today. He fell from the nest and died instantly. It really crushed me. I buried him with a pretty stone under a fruit tree. Watching this video helped me visualize him growing up, getting all his feathers and leaving the nest the way it should have happened. Thank you.
We had a very windy, bad storm yesterday and last night. I was talking with my neighbor and happened to see a strange thing in the ground...a baby robin bird and it’s sibling. It was alive, the other one already had ants on it as it was gone. I picked it up and took it home and called my brother in law who raised one like these. He said use dry cat food with water that makes a good mush. It gives them the exact nutrients they need...per others online. Every two hours they have to be fed and backend cleaned. He/she is hanging in there.
Then as I was tending to it in the e front porch my daughters Bassett hound, Ramona was barking at something. Another baby robin that was thrown out of its best, but probably a week older. I’m keeping them both fed on time so far. Wow...never had this experience!

I found one hatchling by the tree at the park. It had been knocked down from the nest including all its siblings, all of whom died from ant bites. I got the living one in the house and fed it. It still had some ant bites, but recovered quickly. I ended up driving over 30 miles to a wildlife rehab center to drop it off. I am a grown man, but felt like crying once I parted ways, and it was just two nights. I still miss the little guy. I hope he heals fine and has a productive and happy life.
My those chicks grew up so fast. Any idea how many days from hatching to the first flight?

Aw they are so scrawny and vulnerable at the start. Then they thicken up and grow their beautiful wings and feathers. It’s beautiful seeing their change
They hopping is how robins encourage worms to come closer to surface. The hopping simulates the tapping of rain which drives worms crazy so they come up to surface to get away from it. That's why you always see worms coiled up under awnings so they don't have the rain constantly tapping on their "roof."

This is the most sweet video I saw about Robins! Thanks a lot for sharing this so that we know what we can expect for next with the Mama Robin and her blue eggs. She came to our house around end of April and built her nest at the top flat corner of our front door. We try to go out from our garage since then... I read thru a lot of comments also, so happy to know so many people has Robins as their friends built nest around human being. I guess after the babies flew away, we will still leave the nest for her so that maybe next year she can coming back
We had a female take a liking to a ceiling fan in our yard, she built her nest and her and her mate (I think) fed the hatchlings and we watched them grow . Today, they left the nest. It was pretty cool to pass the time watching the process.

This is pretty amazing. A few robins were flying around my yard today and when i saw them this evening I did a walk around the property and see they were building a nest in a vine I have growing along my fence :) Excited to watch (from a distance) this little bird family grow
These birds are super fast and efficient....My pair built a beautiful/solid nest in one day (may 4, 2020)....three chicks fledged (June 5).....wow...!
I love this video. I am experiencing the beauty of seeing 3 baby robins hatched and being fed by their mom & dad.
There was one baby bird that frequently didn't get food (at least not from when you recorded) which I assume was the last bird who didn't grow fast enough as the others. One baby bird was fed more than the others too, which I assume was the first one to fly off because of the quicker development thanks to the nutrients.
This was fun to watch. Thank you. I just had 3 baby robins leave their nest last night into today. I get nests every year and love to watch them grow. I only spotted them last week, they had been keeping a low profile until then.

What is absolutely insane is that this exact same scenario occurred on an old deck fan we have out back. Exactly as shown in here. 3 chicks, one mother. We watched them fly and walk around the fan. They all successfully flew off with their mother I believe 5 days ago. Mother helped lead them off with some worms.

When a fledgling flies out but cannot fly back to nest, daddy robin spends the days and nights teaching, training and feeding the baby until it is strong enough to take flight at will. It may spend several days living on ground until it does fly at will. Be cautious in the surrounding yard and avoid the urge to pick him up and put him back...he may just fly back out anyhow.
Thank you for showing this. I have baby Robbins it just text a few days ago up above my patio. I can certainly hear them but I can only see mama bird feeding them. I think they are about five days old. It’s very exciting
As for the last bird to fly away from your video I do believe this was the little bird that didn’t get as much food in the beginning because he was up towards the front of the nest and his siblings stood up taller than he did from what I could notice. Possibly this is why he stayed behind for more feedings.

WE HAVE A NEST ON THE RAFTERS UNDER OUR TOP DECK. So we can look through the deck spaces down into the nest. Your video with Sophie was amazing, thank you. I just learned what the momma does with the eggs after they hatch, she discards them. This morning I found a hatched egg that had been discarded. We have a robins nest in a tree right outside our living room window. Four baby robins they started hatching 5/30. The female and male robins have been feeding them all day every day. The baby's look so weak when they are getting fed they can only hold their heads up for so long. Appreciated this video thanks.

I have recently become a steadfast fan of red robins when I had a very amazing interaction with one this spent about 20 minutes hanging out with me and letting me pet it. All this came after it conked itself on a window and I wrapped it up and took it out into the sun to warm up a little and was really gentle with it and it decided to like hang out with me and on me. I will forever have a fondness for this particular breed of bird after this.

i had 3 hatch in my shed the nest is just about chest level. I give the mother Robin a dozen worms twice a day in a bowl outside my shed door. They come to me for food when i go out and they let me visit the nest! The babies are ugly little suckers but i enjoy having them there. Really enjoyable to watch them. Thanks for sharing with us!

We have an old nest right above our front door. Robins have been using it for 7 years. Usually get 2 broods (mid April, late June).
I've never closely observed them for fear of scaring them away, so I enjoyed being able to watch your video!
Hi Alien, do you know if the same Robin Mama coming back the next year? I have one nest with Mama Robin now, she has 3 eggs, I read that after the baby Robin fly away, the Robin couple will take care of their kids around. Just wondering what's going on with the old nest...
@@sherrywang4152 To be honest I don't know if it's the same mother every year. I like to imagine it's the same family using the same nest across generations, though!
Currently the nest is unoccupied, though I've seen a few pigeons walking around.

Lovely video and great camera angles. I loved the bit where the chicks were all asleep and then in a split second woke up when they scented a worm. Chick number 4 seemed to have a constantly open beak at the end.

Mom and Dad will actually still feed them after they leave the nest. They'll teach them to find their own food, then they'll cut them off. So they've probably got a couple more days of free worms. After that, they'll be able to feed themselves. They still want to be fed after they can feed themselves, so the parents have to cut them off to get them to actually do it for themselves. It's amazing how fast they develop. I've helped a couple baby robins that fell out of the nest too soon, but only had to do so for a few days before they were able were able to fly (their parents were still around to help them, but it was only for about two days after they could fly).

I have some nesting In bushes off my back porch. I pray no neighborhood cats are around when they take off. Don’t have a lot but we’ve got a few. I had one coming to my feeders and finally he got the message he wasn’t wanted here. 👍🏼♥️
