  • @JeremyPetho
    @JeremyPetho Před 5 lety +7

    I used to have a Subaru wagon, the model older than this.
    Probably one of the least capable 4WDs you can buy, but I did the body lift, fitted mud tyres, welded the rear diff, etc.
    It was great fun to drive and did all the tracks at Jakem and other local places easily. The best part of driving it was the looks of confusion I would get when it went somewhere that their Patrol or Cruiser could not.
    While my Cruiser now is better in almost every way, the Subaru cost 1/10th of the price to buy and build.

    I owned an L-Series as my first car. Best Picnic Wagon you can buy. I'd frequently head past bogged cars on Tim's Thicket or Whitehills chuckling. Choose the right line, adequate tyre pressure and you can get pretty far, even followed a mate in his Nissan through the Captain Fawcett Track in Dwellingup one winter, made it through, but that was a little hairy. Great work Ronny and Adam.

  • @MicahBell_1860
    @MicahBell_1860 Před 2 lety +1

    I had a L Series with the high roof like a 60 series Sahara? Can't remember the name. Maybe Tourer? Great luttle car. Jacked up the suspension bigger wheels & tyres with flares. Really fun & very capable little 4wd.
    Actually a 2 inch body lift probably would have stopped my tyres scrubbing

    I have one of these but much closer to standard, 2inch body lift and big profile highway tyres, built specifically for sand with lots of focus on keeping the weight down. I have mostly light weight hiking camping/cooking gear, insulated 12v cooler rather than a big fridge, lithium second battery. It's the best surf getaway car I've had and still stays between 7 -11 litres per 100km. Mine effortlessly rolls across soft sand but it's not heavy or powerful enough to rescue the bigger cars at the beach unfortunately. I wish there were a lightweight revolution with 4x4's, I can never go back to the 2 tonne plus category again.

    I've seen a couple lifted Foresters here in the States and thought they were awesome and capable looking but kinda thought that without a lowrange were gimmicky. Maybe I'm wrong.

      Some of the early foresters had low range. People mod them for lower gearing, selectable 4WD and even an ARB air locker can be fitted in the rear with some modification.

    There is quite a bit of online content regarding Subarus and modifications etc including the following:
    offroadsubarus.com/ facebook.com/groups/subarusoffroadaustralia/ facebook.com/groups/1868348633486533/ The final link will follow an L Series and other Subarus crossing the Simpson Desert last year.
