@@maryapatterson I live in a "secure" apartment building but there's so many people who have a key that shouldn't. Older people with aides are given a key, the aide quits and doesn't return the key. You never know where that key ends up. I always check my peep hole after quietly walking to the door. Usually it's a neighbor or the postman. Fed ex uses our call box in the mail lobby that's accessible to anyone! We've had packages stolen many times so we have to ask to get a signature! So it's not a secure building at all!

I even try to instill body autonomy and consent with my toddler by not forcing hugs with her dad and I. Stuff like that.

However in retrospect we were safe because the door of the apartment was made if metal and there were 4 heavy duty locks on it (this was in NYC).

As a Caribbean person there is no way I'm going to the door without peeping to see who is there first, and I don't have to turn off the lights because they're already off if I'm home alone.
