    Good comparison review! And I REALLY like the fact that you base half of it on still photography. I do not shoot video AT ALL, and so many reviews ONLY discuss video.

    Hi Stafford!
    Really helpful review! Which camera do you think is better of these two when it comes to filming and taking pictures of wildlife such as deer from 50-80 feet (15-25 meters)? Which one do you think has a better stabilization system?
    I won't process pictures so I don't need RAW. I just need a plain point and shoot camera (I will just use auto mode)
    In the comments, people said A1000 is a bit slow when focusing compared to SX740. From your experience do you think that it can bring problems when taking videos/photos from far away?

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  Před 3 lety +3

      They are so close hard to tell differences. I would say the Canon auto focus is much better so for people who are not patient and truly want a quick snap, great image quality go with the canon. The a1000 can yield better results but more difficult to use as well FYI. When I say better results that is very small compared to more of a hassle. Lower light focus canon will outperform the nikon. Noise ratio Nikon wins so both very close if you do your part. It comes down to the user really putting in the effort to make great photographs. It is tougher in many ways to get great photos because we are so constrained by the smaller sensor.

    Thank you for the insight. Another huge reason why the Nikon should be better at IQ is that the Nikon has no low pass/anti-alias filter. And that definitely brings more sharpness.

    Don't waste your money on the Canon. I do low light shooting for work and purchased the 740; unfortunately it's photos are blurry and look like they were shot with a potato.

    Would the A1000 be a good option for sports shots? I am looking for something specifically for kids sports outside, with plenty of movement.

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  Před 3 lety +3

      No, in all honesty the point and shoot cameras are pretty slow for sports work. With these cameras the focus just is so so slow in comparison. Sorry but the strongest thing about the a1000 is the zoom.

  • @robertbissett

    Great review. Real world credible source for info. I do wish you would post a few side by side comparison of the two cameras. I got an SX740 earlier this month and it does fairly well with the settings you recommend. Do I really need to sell it and opt for the A1000 to get the better IQ? I've searched out sample photos and found a few. Near as I can tell they aren't much better than I've been getting and maybe not as good. Lots of variables, I know.

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE

      Robert thanks for stopping in and commenting. I thought about posting photos side by side but as you know alot of people just log off your channel if it gets too long without really wanting to wade through the details. So I am in a tough position get down to details and have lots of people bail out of the video or keep people watching and give them a rough overview. hmmm Still testing the approach. So your mentioned the A1000 vs SX740. I would only suggest the A1000 if weight/size is paramount with hiking or walking. The Canon SH70 is a better camera as the Nikon P950/900 and P1000. Again depends on what you want to try to do. Would I suggest your going to get better photos from the A1000 yes sharper but you have to know how to harness the cameras power. You will also miss alot of shots because of the focus so it is a mixed bag. The SH70 is a nice between. I will be posting a review of the sh70 vs P950 and how they all rate together.

      @robertbissett Před 3 lety +1

      @@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE I recently bought a P1000 which I really like and sold my G3X. I don't mind hiking around with the big Nikon looking for wildlife, but there are times it is nice to have a small, light superzoom in the pocket. With current knowledge probably just as well to keep the SX740 and make adjustments with Topaz Studio 2 as needed.

      @@robertbissett Robert, yes I agree. I just did some side by side shots tonight. I found some things that are kind of interesting. So next video I will compare about 5 super zooms along with my m43 lens at max zoom. The SX740 did surprise me thou there are some exceptions. Lets say in good light you might be better off with the sx740 than the a1000.

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  Před 3 lety

      Yes, it shoots 7 frames a second burst for only 3 versus sx740 to me seems much faster in all operations. The SX740 focuses faster and shoots faster and more. Hope this helps. If you are frustrated with the sx740 speed in any way do not buy the a1000.

    A good comparison, thank you. I don't own either camera but when looking at sample images on review websites I noticed some shots from the SX740 looked smeary and some didn't, it's the same with the SX70. A shame, I've always liked Canon colours and my old SX240 is on it's last legs. Have you updated the firmware on the A1000? I read a comment somewhere (probably DPReview) that the latest firmware improved the camera's performance a bit.

    I think the better compact cameras super zoom are from Sony. The HX-99, HX-95. Very good snappy autofocus, RAW support, good image quality, etc

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  Před rokem +2

      Don, it might be me but I had the sony hx99 and there were things that are much better. Raw support, focus speed was way faster and accurate. I returned my HX-99 due to image quality when things are perfect. You might of tested this but my copy of the HX-99 image quality did not hold up nearly to the canon or nikon compacts. Sadly everything else about the sony camera was better...ohh and the size of the sony is a dream with that popup viewfinder. Your thoughts ???

    • @amermeleitor
      @amermeleitor Před rokem +2

      @@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE nearly all small sensor super zoom cameras have mediocre image quality, I have not tested the Canon or Nikon, so the image quality might be better than Sony. But when I was searching for reviews the Canon images seems very soft and the camera have not manual controls, is more a point and shoot kind of camera; the Nikon is bulkier and I wanted something small and pocketeable.

  • @michaeld5888
    @michaeld5888 Před 2 lety +1

    The Canon compacts tend to die at high ISOs and the Nikon holds up much better from my experience with a Canon SX620 and various reviews as Canon seem to use these old Sony sensors holding too many megapixels. Even Sony have dialed back to 18mp. Canon do seem to not developing their compacts and struggle implementing EVFs and the Nikon focusing modes are more diverse. I am finding my A1000 is performing as well as any bridge I have had within its zoom range which is surprising given its size. The only drawback is there is no image information with the Nikon on reviewing images. Very pleased with the camera and I tend to go out with a Fuji X-E1 for the quality shots with a short kit zoom and the little Nikon as a handy zoom. Nikon seem to get much more out of these little sensors than Canon and the Cameralabs side by side as ISO increases of the now discontinued B600 and SX70 is very telling.

      Thanks for watching. I have not tried any super small sony cameras. I did not try them because of the 720mm zoom. I do think they are a better camera overall. The focus seems faster on them, I really wish they would put out a 820-900mm point and shoot and I will be all over that.

      @felipekarelovic2446 Před 3 lety +1

      @@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE yes, this is what I have found: The HX99 is an overall quick performer. It starts, focuses, and fires in about 2.3 seconds-pretty standard for this style camera, as the lens has to extend from the body before it can snap a shot. Autofocus itself is speedy-the HX99 locks on almost instantly at its widest angle and notches a respectable 0.1-second focus lock at its maximum zoom setting. Low light will hamper speed-expect an average 0.3-second delay in dim light.
