- After a month of almost daily surfs on the Rob Machado seaside surfboard by firewire surfboards in helium technology. Here is my long winded and brutally honest review.

Great review, exactly my experience with the Seaside. I have 75kg and the 5‘7“ and it is absolutely my daily driver. It is an performance cruiser and soooo floaty. Good job! 🙌🏽

To be honest this is my first shortboard. I’m used to riding 8’ and 7’ long to midsize boards. I was worried about the size but was reading and hearing so many reviews about its buoyancy. I was able to get a few decent rides in on Sunday and it was only getting easier one wave after another. It’s amazing how well the board floats! I’m looking forward to progressing both in getting used to a shortboard and all’s learning about the Seaside. On a few rides, I could really feel how well the tail sinks into the wave when you get your weight on the back and do some turns. Such a sick board!

I really liked the mix of personal experience combined with the montage of surfing with the go pro .
It is interesting how some are saying do not oversize , and some are actually enjoying the added volume and paddle power .
I'm 6.3 and 95kg and just purchased a 5.10 .

How do you find the 5"10 goes for your size? I'm 6 foot and 90ish kgs and caught between the 5"9 and 5"10
Love the review. For me personally, I am much more interested in how somebody feels on a board rather than the technical details of board design and you covered every kind of wave and weather likely to be rode. I have just ordered the 6ft model and I'm a bit worried I have gone too high volume wise but then most of my surfing is done in Wales where we get very small waves the majority of the year. Keep up the good work buddy, happy days.

Just felt the need to chime in here. I'm 6'2, 84 KG and I went with the 5'10 39L. ITS UNBELIEVABLE! The speed generation and maneuverability. In 4 sessions I can already feel my ability has greatly improved on this board. And most importantly, I'm having a F**ing blast. See you on the water!

Hi; Nice review, I have a 5' 6'' seaside and love it's speed and overall performance. I notice you didn't mention different fins on your test. I found the Machado fins slid around a bit on solid waves so I put in some Rasta fins and found they gave more drive and hold. Like you said the seaside goes a dream in 4 to 5 ft. offshore waves . It has replaced my 6' 2'' tri fin and 6' 3'' fish as it combines the best of both boards. I can't wait to ride it again.

Absolutely agree...and thanks for the tip about the fins...I plan on trying the controllers that are in my wife’s seaside and beyond one day...the Rasta fins look badass too...thanks for watching.

I found that it's really important to have your rear foot all the way back over the rear fins, having a stomp pad helped me know I was in the right spot.

Nice review mate, i had all theses feeling riding my 5.7, even when you compare the choppy and the glassier conditions. Most of all, it´s a really all round fun surfboard once you get it´s trick.
I’ve seen guys absolutely shred on these, haven’t figured mine out yet, is it a feathery touch or ...?
Yeah it takes a little time to figure out how to mesh it with your style and then when it clicks it really clicks.
Really depends on the wave, i find that i need to bleed a little extra speed before i turn hard or it will kick back. Its just so damn fast
This is a really great, honest review, I’ve just ordered one but kinda questioning myself on size. Have Gone for the 5.7’ I’m about 80kgs and live in an area of quite soft surf. I hear most people that buy the seaside wish they had gone smaller so keen to hear thoughts on this
Thanks for watching…I think you will love the 5’7” i would have preferred a smaller board in hindsight. The 5’9” was a little wide but not a deal breaker at all.
Don’t go big! I’m 200lbs 6.1 and intermediate/advanced surfer. I got the 5.8 and really enjoyed it. But decided to order the 5.7 and OMG, I love this board. It’s one of the best boards I’ve ever had in my years of surfing. Perfect for knee to head high waves and Perfect board for those less than great days. Excellent addition to your quiver.
I was thinking that might be the case, want to try a 5’4” now...thanks for watching and letting me know how the sizing worked for you.

Just got my Seaside yesterday, and rode it for the first time today. Took me 3-4 waves to adjust to the SPEEEEED, this thing is squirty! 5th wave I had a clean wall, and went for a cutback, and I swear I never had that much control before. 100% agree with the suction cup feeling. It was like I was on a rollercoaster on rails.
From there on, my session was magic. I got the 5'8" (I'm 5ft11, 85kg), and I already know this is the best board I have ever owned. Love it!

Where I'm from its just hard to get to the surfing grounds. i have to take my jetski 40 minutes to get to our break. Yeah the 5’4” dims looks sweet, especially after riding the 5’9” for a while. Price is relative, these things are tough as hell so actually kinda cheap in the long run. Was hit in the rail and front foot by a runaway longboard the other day, only a small crack to repair, had to reset the ankle bones though 😜
@@BluePacificMedia Thank you for the feedback! I hear that a lot with the Helium boards. I just want something i can ride than hand down to my son in years to come. I can't find one review that somebody is negative about the board. The 5'4 will be purchased! Also going to get Rob's fins to go with it. I'm a quad fan to begin with. Thanks again cheers.
Thanks for the review! I’ve got the seaside and the baked potato, I don’t think the potato will get much use anymore. Did you find the same or does the baked still have a place in your quiver?
I actually sold it 😂 but i already regret it...while i doubt i would ride it that much, i still love the way that board skates.

Awesome review mate. I was looking at getting the 5'11. but not so sure now. Im 80kg and ride a 6'6 38L. I was looking for some more volume as I cant get out as much at the moment and when I can conditions vary. Would the 5'11 be too big? I would say my level would be intermediate. Thanks very much!
Thanks for watching...I wouldn’t think it would be too big, for me the width was the biggest shock...the 5’9” is super wide but i am sure as long as its not too critical a wave the width wont cause too much issues.
Perfect review of this board. I couldn't have said it better myself. I've been riding two for well over a year and I haven't had a reason to get off it yet. Great footage btw. Have you tried a beyond yet? I'm really interested in getting one to experience a seaside in a longer outline for high tide sessions in the gutless waves we occasionally get around here and just want to cruise. Would love to hear your thoughts on that one.

Fun board in mellow surf. Can't handle steep waves though even small and steep it slides out easily
Got a nice tube a few days ago. Knifed the takeoff. But the width can be an issue at times.
finally a review with the 5’9 version. I’m only 5’10 (160) and am about to pick it up in a hour. Just out of curiosity, is it really that hard to duck dive the board? I was gonna go with the twice baked (5’5) but decided to go with this one just for the added performance. Love your videos man!

@@sweeneycunningham3254 thanks for watching, if you get on the tail its super responsive, but the rail doesnt sink easy...i think more wrapping turns/ tail slide vs hacks.
Great review mate, love the detail! After some sizing advice....I'm beginner, verging on intermediate, 5'7" 76kg, currently on a 6'8" 54L modern highline. I'm unsure on the size I should be going for in this board (already sold on it haha). Is a 6'0" too tall? I dont want to struggle too much adjusting but also want a board that I'll keep for years and something like this, fast loose skatey etc. TIA!
Thanks for watching, stoked to help. Anyway you shake it, coming off the 6’8” you are riding is going to feel small, but that is a good thing. My advice would be to grab a 5’7 or 5’8 seaside and push yourself when the waves are a notch bigger. For me the 5’9 sometimes feels too wide when the surf is a but more punchy…often i reach for a more traditional shortboard, but had i gone for a 5’5 or 5’6 the width would be perfect. As i said in the video i was more focused on the length of rail at the time. Keep improving by riding different boards, the 6’8 for mellow days and then a seaside to get a little loose when the power is there.

I bought a Seaside 5’5 two weeks ago. Had about 5 surfs on it. I'm 5'9 and 11 stone. I’ve got another 2 weeks to swap it for another board from the shop I bought it from if I want to. It grovels ace but over chest high in steeper waves it starts to feel a little less manageable. Perhaps I just need to get used to it but it slid out doing cut backs a couple of times on steeper waves, which I'm not used to happening to me on my daily driver board, (5'9 29.5 ltrs thruster fin). I’m using the Machado quads. I probably could swap it out for a smaller one however, in the interest of grovelling and making the 5'5 more versatile, what fins might make it hold better Rastovich quads??, is it just me, or the board size?
I find that i start my turns more gently then add power towards the end...also quads will release more suddenly then thrusters in my experience (limited) Only thing that jumps to mind is you may be over powering your turns. Hard to say without seeing sorry.
Nice review mate, still debating between the 5´5 or 5´6, I normally ride a lost redux rocket 5´10 (32 L) and a custom fish 5´8 (35 L) So kind of worried the 5´5 at 31.5 L and the 5´6 at 32.7 might seem like not enough Liters, but also see everyone saying they should have bought a smaller size when it comes to the seaside... Im 5´11ish at 75 kg any suggestions?
Sorry for not replying, somehow missed your comment. Thank you for watching. I am guessing you settled on a board. I would say the 5’6 is the go, not a huge jump in volume but you get that extra length in the rail line.
I got the 5’11 and it looks a bit big for me. 5’9 would be perfect. Hoping to have a good first session tomorrow. Is the 5’11 with 41 L hard to turn?

@@BluePacificMedia I picked up the 5’8 and having some growing pains on it. The 5’11 so easy to surf. The 5’8 is gonna be good but my timing and positioning is off. It’s so much looser than the 5’11
Did you ever end up adding a traction pad or continue to prefer the feel with the seaside without one?
Still pad-less, i just prefer it on a fish style board…that said, i have lost a few sections to back foot slips.

Nah i would shoot for the 5’9” i find it is hard to sink the rail at my weight...would have been better in a 5’7 myself

Loved the review! Could you elaborate a bit on the pros and cons of this vs a baked potato? My buddy swears by his and looks like you loved your baked as well. Was gonna get one till I saw that you got rid of your baked and now mostly ride this. Thanks!
Absolutely...firstly thank you for watching 😊 both boards are awesome, However the seaside covers the spot the baked potato did while doing a little more. The BP is fun and fast in smaller stuff but it doesnt allow much rail surfing. The BP is more skatey. The seaside feels more like a surfboard should but also gives you enough volume to get over the smaller flatter sections.
Also the thinned out tail on the seaside makes more critical waves makable compared to the BP which is wide and thick nose to tail.

I’m 5’7 x 70kg and I ride an Hypto krypto 5’6, 28-29 L.
Any suggestions about which size can be ok for me? 5’3 or 5’4 for example?
How does it compare to an alla around board like the Hypto in terms of performance?

If you haven't already done so, get the 5'4. I've ridden a hypto crypto and the seaside is a much much better small wave board. Once it get's overhead, the tail of the hypto will allow it to hold better, but I've had an insane session in 6ft hurricane surf on my 5'6 seaside. You do have to learn how to control speed on this board once it gets over shoulder high though. One thing I've found helpful is putting in a larger flat foil quad set to get more hold when it's pumping. A 50/50 foil for your trailers will also increase hold. Once it's head high I use large AM sides and either 3.75 or 4.0 trailers instead of the machados.

Hello mate, I'm 162.5 cm/ 63.5 kg currently riding a 5'6" Channel Island Rocket Wide 27 liters.. should I get the 5'2" seaside? I can ride down the line and pump fronside and sometimes cutback.
Thanks for watching, sounds like the 5’2 would work volume wise. I would think the 5’4 would also be good to give that little extra paddle power for upping the wave count. I got the 5’6” in volcanic a while back and it feels perfect.
I’m 5’7, 54kg and riding a Seaside 5’7. It’s easy to catch waves. I’m still unsure about it. Most of the time, I’m tossing whether to ride my 7’0 Scorpion or 5’7 Seaside 🫣🤷🏽♀️

Have you ridden an EVO before? I live at a beach break thats often mushy soft waves but sometimes it can turn on a bit better, we have lots of longboarders (I'm not keen on longboarding just yet) so need a bit of volume to get in early. I'm a low end intermediate I think, 74kgs, and like the look of both the Seaside and the Evo, unfortunately it's hard to get an opportunity to test ride a board. any advice?
Hi David, thank you for watching 🙏 I haven’t ridden an EVO but for my money i would say the seaside is the board to go for. The evo looks fun and should be a paddle beast but that straight rail outline may take out some of the fun when you want to whip the board around on a turn. It looks more like a groveler to me personally. The seaside is not a grovel board but it will get you into small waves too.

Great review mate! I got the seaside a year ago as my first "shortboard". I'm only 72 kg, but the guys at the shop told me to get a 6'0 since I'm a beginner... After a year of surfing it and many difficult duck dives, I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to sell it (for a loss) and get a 5'4, or simply keep it for small days. Any recommendations? Thank you 🤙 i would definitely look at selling and going for a shorter board if your level has improved...this board shines when you can step on the tail and bury the rail. A seaside and beyond is another option, my wife’s 6’8” is super fun in both small waves and larger ones...check my review on that if you are interested.

Thanks for watching 🤙 I don’t see why not, but i would lean towards a broader fin template to complement the fish style. My wife rides it with controllers which are more upright and loves it. ( can see those fins in the review of her seaside and beyond)

Mate I'm 48yrs 82kg 5'8 average Joe surfer and I got the 5'5 31.5l floats the same as my 5'8 33.2l cymatic.
Plenty of glide, fast and easy to turn. If I were you I wouldn't go more than 5'7

Trying to decide between this and the seaside and beyond!
I bought my wife the 6’8” seaside and beyond and it is pretty damn awesome, but a completely different beast. Will have a review when i get a little more time on it. It is a lot heavier, and the back third is really thinned down, feels like a perfect board for a bigger wall for sure.

Pedro Rodriguez it’s personal choice if you want a smaller one get it, it’ll be a bit more manoeuvrable. But maybe you want to try a different shaped board.
Yes it probably will be a tad redundant depending on the shape of your 8’0 i rode my wifes board in some punchier waves a few days ago and fell in love with it, but i wouldn’t want anymore size or volume or it would become a cruiser for me i think.

I am 178cm and 79kgs, But I have recently started riding the 5'6" seaside, and I think it is perfect size-wise for me. The 5'9" is a little too much volume, and it kicked back when I tried to put it on rail. At the time of this video, I was riding waves that were more about down-the-line speed, less carves. I am also riding a 5'8 Mashup and loving it. review coming soon.

hey@@BluePacificMedia !! this vid is great man!! I am a 178cm, 65kg (athletic female), and I usually ride a stock 5'9 Lost Uber Driver (eps) that is about 29.5L. Been struggling to choose between a 5'6 or a 5'4 Seaside, I have above average stability (like, sometimes my pop-up has waaaay too much pop and my front foot lands outside the grip/wax and I rarely slip even then lol) but I'm dubious whether a 5'4 will limit how big a wave I can charge (I mean .. aiming to go up to a little ove a 6footer wave).
Knowing this boar like you do, would you recommend 5'6 or 5'4? and I'm thinking about getting the volcanic to handle choppy waves a little better..

Pretty subjective really, i’ve had fun in knee high waves on it if that helps.
