The first time I saw SE7EN and saw Leland Orser in that scene I thought "that's not acting, that's real" I'd say that's one of the best acted scenes I've ever seen!
He's one of those actors that if I'm not sure I want to watch a movie, if I see that he's in it, I'll watch it. That's not saying everything he's in is good, but I'm pretty much guaranteed to enjoy his performance. Oftentimes it's the character actors that draw me to a movie and not the leads.
I never remembered his name, but you can bet every bottom dollar that his performance has stuck with me since the first time watching it. That performance was just unbelievable. It is genuinely perfect. It would be SO EASY to overact it, genuinely, but he somehow doesn't. He's unhinged JUST ENOUGH to make it fully believable. The whole time you can see him barely holding back puking at the thought of what happened. You can see his mind unravelling one thread at a time.
I don't know if he's TECHNICALLY The Devil, but my personal favorite performance was Tim Curry as Darkness from Legend (an incredibly underrated dark fantasy imo).
I don’t think he’s meant to be Lucifer himself though his design is very much similar to the way we view him, I believe he’s meant to be another non Christian Bible based devil. It is one of if not the best characters Curry has portrayed.
Ah, dear William Bludworth - Tony Todd chews the scenery in the Final Destination movies, as he does in any movie he's in. He's clearly loving every minute. I would watch that man read from the Yellow pages - oops, showing my age now but TT is a legend.
Drew Barrymore was actually meant to play the lead but she suggested to Wes that she took the other role to make the movie even more talked about. She was right about that.
I'm not much of a Bill Murray fan, but my goodness, that scene in Little Shop of Horrors. Just every bloody single thing - writing, background, his co-actors acting and his own - was perfect. The combination? If it's possible to get a better scene (I doubt it) watching it would probably destroy my mind, with my last words being "worth it".
The one weak point of Smile is that not all smiles managed to come off as creepy. Luckily, they open with the absolute best one, because Stasey manage to make her smile utterly terrifying. Side note, I love how shamelessly Gareth is in love with Tony Todd. Understandably so, also.
Stormiere made the devil seem almost human but the creepiest portrayal of Satan is by a little old woman in the movie Devil. She made a freaking elevator seem ominous.
Laura had by far the creepiest smile in the film. So much so that when the mc finally smiled it was actually very underwhelming, because the first was so memorable that it was impossible not to compare them.
I know this doesn’t count because legitimately they’re both in more than one scene, but both of these actors are GREAT in ONE IMPORTANT SCENE in both films: 🗣️🗣️🗣️MADISON CURRY AS YOUNG ADELAIDE/RED IN US! She was absolutely AMAZING!!! She conveyed SO MUCH with no words. Especially in the funhouse. That look man. 🗣️🗣️🗣️BETTY GABRIEL AS GEORGINA IN GET OUT!l The scene she’s talking to Chris about how great the Armitages are gave me CHILLS.
what a crime that in my opinion one of leland's best performances was in an otherwise widely hated movie Alien resurrection he is only in it for a few minutes but his haunting performance of a doomed subject of an experiment screaming "WHATS IN F*CKING SIDE OF ME!!" still fills me with dread and fear everytime i watch that perfomance
I always wondered how Lucifer managed to float downwards in Constantine, I’d have thought he’d come from below, not above. He’s definitely one of my faves.
Watching Deniro evilly eating an egg is just top notch, hardly any screen time or he’d be my number one pick. I’d probably have to give it to Pacino for his rant in the devil’s advocate.
I was surprised to see no mention of vigo mortenson from his one scene roll in the first prophecy film…something to look forward to if y’all decide to extend the list 👍🏽
I have to mention Jeff Goldblum's S-Tier Lucifer in Mr. Frost... Even if the movie is awful, it's worth watching for his performance (although it's a close call.)
Ya’ll need to rewatch Shudder Island because Teddy isn’t insane. He is very sane. The key lies in the storm. Please rewatch as the movie has a much much more sinister plot.
I'd argue that Constantine, Shutter Island, and Seven aren't "Horror", but more "Horror Adjacent", but those performances were SO FREAKING GOOD, especially Peter Stormare as Satan, I'll give them a pass!
As amazing the performances were in Smile don’t forget Rob Morgan in the prison scene. He was brilliant in his eerie retelling giving a fantastic chilling performance but when he realises she is the afflicted flipping his switch you can really feel his terror
@@VinegarAndSaltedFries He IS insane...until the end. He comes to terms with what happened, but then pretends to relapse so that he can be lobotomized.
Best Lucifer is Hazbin Hotel because he's depicted as a socially awkward man who struggles with depression after his divorce. It really humanized a character who would otherwise be depicted as just a figure of pure evil, and I love it for that.
@@Dabbewear8382 I'm not sure if this comment or one that got deleted. But someone commented "Best Lucifee" and I wanted to comment like the mice in Cinderella lol
Really? Content warning before number one? It's bad enough that anyone is weak enough to need one, but it's even more ridiculous on a video about HORROR movies.
And that's all it is, nimrod, an idea. If words and ideas and fictions scare you, avoid any content with horror/thriller attached to it. But let the grown ups enjoy art, even the uncomfortable stuff.
@@Bluesit32 apparently some people are very triggered by trigger warnings. Perhaps we need a trigger warning for the trigger warning. 😂 Don't know why they're so upset by someone saying "content warning, sexual assault" - after all, it's just words and if they can't handle words maybe the internet isn't the right place for them. I can't imagine getting so worked up over the concept of a trigger warning, but people who lack empathy make up for it with anger
The first time I saw SE7EN and saw Leland Orser in that scene I thought "that's not acting, that's real"
I'd say that's one of the best acted scenes I've ever seen!
Stormare as Lucifer was so great. He was just so damn SLIMEY
Once Peter Stormare was described as the patron sain of one-scene wonders, and honestly pretty much deserves it.
@@themantyf1116 agreed

Very true.
BIG LIKE the second I saw you included Peter Stormare as Lucifer. I was mesmerized every second he was on the screen.
Best Lucifer in a movie is Viggo Mortensen, in The Prophecy!
bruh................FACTS
Totally.
Leland Orser is such an underrated actor it drives me crazy.
I never remembered his name, but you can bet every bottom dollar that his performance has stuck with me since the first time watching it. That performance was just unbelievable. Alien 4.
Viggo Mortensen in “the prophecy”; Tim Curry in “Legend”; Harvey Keitell in “Little Nicky”.
I loved Tony Todd's voice in Candyman also.
Extra props to Drew Barrymore for asking for the cold open role. The director wanted to cast her as the lead originally.
I don't know if he's TECHNICALLY The Devil, but my personal favorite performance was Tim Curry as Darkness from Legend (an incredibly underrated dark fantasy imo).
"...What is light without dark? What are you without me? I am a part of you all. You can never defeat me..."
@barrellracer I think this role is my all time favorite of Tim Curry's
@@DMBLaan The Rocky Horror Picture Show ... Legend... It... Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest... Clue...
You just can't go wrong w Tim Curry
I don’t think he’s meant to be Lucifer himself though his design is very much similar to the way we view him, I believe he’s meant to be another non Christian Bible based devil. It is one of if not the best characters Curry has portrayed.
Legend is definitely a classic of my childhood and wildly overlooked cinematically
Peter Stormare's Lucifer is one of my all time fav on-screen portrayal of him.. Hail Peter!
Ah, dear William Bludworth - Tony Todd chews the scenery in the Final Destination movies, as he does in any movie he's in. He's clearly loving every minute. I would watch that man read from the Yellow pages - oops, showing my age now but TT is a legend.
My girl 💯👍💯
Stephen Root is criminally underrated. He is a great actor with incredible range.
Jack Nicholson played that role in the original movie!
The one weak point of Smile is that not all smiles managed to come off as creepy.
Luckily, they open with the absolute best one, because Stasey manage to make her smile utterly terrifying.
Side note, I love how shamelessly Gareth is in love with Tony Todd. Understandably so, also.
Constantine is 100% my favorite representation of Lucifer
Stormiere made the devil seem almost human but the creepiest portrayal of Satan is by a little old woman in the movie Devil. She made a freaking elevator seem ominous.
I really enjoyed Devil, I've seen it many times
To me, Scream is reminiscent of the movie: up, where the first 10 minutes are the best part of the movies.
Best devil - Ned Flanders
Laura had by far the creepiest smile in the film. So much so that when the mc finally smiled it was actually very underwhelming, because the first was so memorable that it was impossible not to compare them.
This was a great idea for a list. Would love to see more like this!

Sigourney Weaver - Cabin in the Woods
Did you just start a video by saying "horror movies, like..." and then bust out two non-horror movies?
Leland Orser's scene sold Se7en...he hyperventilated on pure oxygen before filming the scene.
what a crime that in my opinion one of leland's best performances was in an otherwise widely hated movie Alien resurrection he is only in it for a few minutes but his haunting performance of a doomed subject of an experiment screaming "WHATS IN F*CKING SIDE OF ME!!" still fills me with dread and fear everytime i watch that perfomance
I love Peter Stormare!
Me too! He's great in everything he's in
My favorite Satan is Al Pacino in Devil's Advocate.
Don't mind if I do!
Didn't know "smile" was a short..will have 2 look it up.. The feature length put me 2 sleep😂
I always wondered how Lucifer managed to float downwards in Constantine, I’d have thought he’d come from below, not above. He’s definitely one of my faves.
Smile is such a creepy underrated horror movie.
I mean, it was a box office hit, so I don't know if I'd call it underrated.
Watching Deniro evilly eating an egg is just top notch, hardly any screen time or he’d be my number one pick. I’d probably have to give it to Pacino for his rant in the devil’s advocate.
Shout out to WCH. You guys are right about Lealand Orser... It was like he wasn't acting. 7even... awesome crime-horror flick.
Yes, the Swedish celebrated actor known as Store Mare.
ok I thought that can't be how it's pronounced... though I admittedly don't know how to pronounce it myself, lol!
🥉
I was surprised to see no mention of vigo mortenson from his one scene roll in the first prophecy film…something to look forward to if y’all decide to extend the list 👍🏽
The Empty Man is brilliant, IMO. A thinking person’s horror movie.
Nothing against Mr. Haley, but Ted Levine absolutely kills it in his one scene in Shutter Island.
I have to mention Jeff Goldblum's S-Tier Lucifer in Mr. Frost... Even if the movie is awful, it's worth watching for his performance (although it's a close call.)
8:20 this character was played by Jack Niconson on the movie from 60's
Ya’ll need to rewatch Shudder Island because Teddy isn’t insane. He is very sane. The key lies in the storm. Please rewatch as the movie has a much much more sinister plot.
I am torn on Lucifer portrayals. Stormaire was phenomenal, but Viggo Mortinson in The Prophecy was also so good.
What about the opening scene from Jaws?
Not the same since ace ventura "that's not snowflake"
Tim Curry as Darkness and Viggo in The Prophecy
6:02 except for Freddy Krueger! 🤦♀ 😂
Smile 2….. I don’t know how to feel about it lol
Just grin and bear it.
🥈
Although I did not like the show Reaper, Ray Wise was my favorite Devil
I'd argue that Constantine, Shutter Island, and Seven aren't "Horror", but more "Horror Adjacent", but those performances were SO FREAKING GOOD, especially Peter Stormare as Satan, I'll give them a pass!
Shutter Island and Seven are more Thrillers
6!

Wojciech Pszoniak in “The Devil,” by Andrzej Zulawski.
Best Satan Performances:
Pacino in The Devils Advocate.
Deniro in Angel Heart.
Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy.
I thought Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled was a great Devil.
Hello John, John hello
Hey! Don't underrate Sir Alec Guinness... But great video!
I would've chosen the bear from Midsommar.
It's just Christian in a bear suit at the very end. Do you mean Annihilation by any chance?
Viggo Mortenson The Prophecy
Vego mortenson
SHUTTER ISLAND IS NOT A HORROR!! IT'S A MYSTERY/THRILLER NOT HORROR!
That’s right up until you realize Teddy is actually being gaslighted and he actually isn’t insane. The key is in the storm it’s very real life horror.
@@VinegarAndSaltedFries He IS insane...until the end. He comes to terms with what happened, but then pretends to relapse so that he can be lobotomized.

Shutter Island again huh. Are you the same WhatCulture that bashed Mr H Reviews for content earlier. You lot just repeat things.

Words are scary, and apparently some people are softer than baby shit.
Some people just don't like the idea of a woman being ended by a bladed strap-on. It's weird, I know.
