  • The Salewa Ortles Light Mid Powertex Boot are light (for mountaineering boots) and provide a very secure fit. It also features a grippy Pomoca tread that has held up to lots of rock and debris.

Thanks, these look interesting! How is the toe box width? I need a wider toe box for a couple of issues, and mountaineering boots tend to be narrower (and lower volume!).

Hey Paul! I would say these are medium width toe box. I wonder if we can find a shop in the area that would have them for you to try on. I feel you on the need for room in the toe box.

Hello! I’m about to pull the trigger on these. Im a US size 10 and would usually wear EURO mountaineering 11.5. Are these made in Europe or Asia the size tag inside the boot will say that. That will 100% determine what size I wear. I noticed not all euro outdoor brands make all their equipment in Europe

These are true to size, but I'd still try them on first or get from a good return policy vendor. With Salewa, I've found it doesn't really matter where they are made. For example, my mountain trainer lite gtx made in Vietnam fit true to size with wider toe box, while my mountain trainer made in Romania I need 1/2 US size larger. Ortles Ascent 1/2 size larger for me. Overall Salewa range, I generally opt for 1/2 to full US size larger. In comparison to other Euro hike/mountaineering, La Sportiva I always wear 1/2 to full US size larger, while Asolo are always true to size for me. So, you should really try out.

I have had them in 10-15F since they came in. No problem with that. But I suppose it is up to the individual. Hope that helps!

You'll probably give yourself a big Doh forehead slap about the Hidden Loop Pocket. You see the pull/hang heel loop flapping off the back? tuck it into the bottom of hidden loop pocket above it (the pocket opening is to the bottom). Now your pull/hang heel loop is hidden in the pocket. Useful? No. Gimmicky? Yes. I guess the only reason it could be useful is if you are wearing shorts, not gaiters and climbing/scrambling and didn't want to risk the heelp loop catching on something. Given that it's a mountaineering boot, what are the chances you aren't going to be wearing pants?

You are a wealth of information, my friend! Thank you for sorting that out. I was truly stumped on this one LOL. Thanks and take care!
