      I recently bought a Canon M50 and bought the 22mm pancake lens at the same time. I like it a lot, but I was also looking at the Sigma 16mm so this video was times just right. Still thinking about it. Does it really behave like a native Canon lens? My concern is the size and weight? Why does it need to be so big?

    I watched this to see the lens with the M50 based on the title yet he spends most of the video talking about the M6. INCLDUDING test footage with the M6 rather than the M50. Found it frustrating. If you're gonna mostly talk about the M6, change the title.

    For vlogging I've tested the 16mm but even if the picture is amazing with my M50, it's not wide enough for me. I stick with my 11-22mm wich is wider, cheaper and have IS with a very decent picture. I've bought the Sigma 30mm though wich is perfect for video and street photography. My goto lens now.

  • @JohnArmwood
    @JohnArmwood Před 4 lety +7

    I have used the Canon M50 with the 11-22mm for over a year and a half. It is a good vlogging lens. I also use the 2.0. 22mm and the 32mm 1.4 which is my favorite travel photography lens. I wish though that the 22mm and the 1.4 mm had built in image stabilization. This lack of stabilization messed up some of my nighttime photos of Manhattan from the Staten Island Ferry. The built in optical stabilization worked fine for close in shots but not for more distant shots.

    I’ve actually been waiting for this video for a while because I actually just recently got a Canon M50 & the Sigma 16mm. To me it’s definitely the only lense (other than the kit lense that I need) because it covers soo much. Low light, blurry background, and extremely nice quality! To me the 16mm is better than the Canon 11-22 because that low light is just so bad compared to the 1.4 on the sigma. Great video tho!

    • @Qigong18
      @Qigong18 Před 3 lety

      I use the 11-22 as I need full body shot in a small room. How is the sigma 16mm compared to the canon 11mm? Would it be like using the 11-22 at 16mm or does the sigma have a wider view? Thx

    • @HermanThind
      @HermanThind Před 3 lety +1

      Qigong18 at 16mm they are both relatively the same, but the bokeh on the 1.4 will blow you away. There is no comparison. I keep the 11-22 at the 11 end for outdoors (mostly) use. The 16mm is my go-to for indoors.
      The 16mm is roughly 24mm in full-frame equivalent. Not super wide, but at f1.4 you get amazing bokeh, and the low light capability is amazing. It’s great for indoors.
      When I record vlogs in my small office I use the 16mm on the m50, and I use my EOS-R when live streaming (clean HDMI output).
      Hope that helps?

  • @mungodarkmatter

    The hard case that comes with the accessories really is a nice case I got one with another lens I ordered and happened to have a spare piece of foam that fit in it and I use it as a case for my Lume cubes. I actually found a use for the backpack with the inflatable insert as well which I initially thought was useless. I threw out the inflatable insert, but I actually have some cloth and foam square pouches that I use to hold equipment and put in larger cases and backpacks. Sometimes, if I needed to grab a single camera an a lens or two. I would just grab one of the pouches out of a case just to have to cover and protect the camera in my car so I could bring a camera with me in circumstances where I thought I might want or need a camera, but did not want to take a full kit with me. The free backpack is actually good to throw a camera in padded pouch into, because it gives a bit of protection to the pouch which is really meant to be put inside another bag, but also the pouch is so cheap looking and innocuous that if you need to make a couple of stops and leave it in your car for a few minutes no one is going to think there is anything of value in it. The value of this to me is that there are circumstances where I might not bring my main camera or main kit, but I would bring a backup camera if I could leave it in my car for a short time without worrying about it calling attention to itself while I made several quick stops.

    Hi Sean, awesome video!
    What are your thoughts on vlogging with a Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8 with a speed booster for M50?
    I am thinking of investing in that lens to improve the quality of my videos when I go to Japan, and I would be able to use it in the future if I upgrade to the EOS R.
    Is the 16-35mm worth buying, or should I get the Sigma 16mm instead?
    Currently, I have the Canon EF 50mm, and Canon EF 10-18mm.
    Thanks for all of the helpful videos!

    Thank you for the video! Quick question. When you're walking and vlogging, going indoor to outdoor, different lighting, etc...Such as 11:47 in this video, are you filming in auto? Interesting video and great timing for me! I’ve been looking at lenses for talking to camera (NOT vlogging). I have the 50mm with adaptor which I love however the rooms I’m shooting in are so small that I can’t get the camera far enough back to frame it right.
    So I’m a bit torn. So do I go for the canon 22mm f2, the sigma 16mm or the sigma 18-35mm? Which would you recommend for someone with little space, in Low light conditions and with best bokeh (for what little can be achieved with such a small room for separation) ?

I have had the m6ii for 6 months now and love it. I do miss the built in evf though, its a pain having the separate one. I wish the 11-22 was faster 😪 but do love the sigma 16mm. I have been thinking about getting the canon 22mm f2 for the purposes of low light. It gets dark around 4 in Chicago currently and when I’m trying to do a food review inside the restaurant its so hard to avoid grainy footage with the 11-22. I have the 50mm 1.8 which is BEAUTIFUL, but it just is far too much zoom. I was hoping this lens was going to be in the 150-250 range, but it’s added to the wish list now.

But thr 16mm It’s really good. So far just photography and I love the Bokeh that this lens allows. I am 10 times better than when I started two months ago. And it’s because of channels like this. Keep up the good work my friend. Always good info.

Of course I hear from the famous sigma 18-35 BUT with speed booster -> vignettîng issue 🤣. Any thoughts ? Tx for all your work ! A great fabulous work ! ( you have audience far from France 🇫🇷)

    Glad you found the lens. The Sigma 16mm f1.4 is my standard lens on the A6400. Only caveat at least on Sony, the AF performance is not as great. Well worth it though... Just needs a good ND filter which I see you already recommend!

      @ThinkMediaTV  Před 4 lety

      Kevin Smyth main difference is size - because you have to use an adapter with the 10-18. However - I think you set with the 10-18 - that’s a killer setup.

    I have the Sigma 16mm and 30mm on my a6300's and I think they're great lenses, but I do my filming from a tripod. Super fast and very sharp image. Though I do find that they do have focusing issues wide open at times. However, I am feeling the need for that image stabilization as it would be nice to be able to shoot handheld for b-roll sometimes. I'm definitely going to get the 56mm as well. Great set of lenses to have.

      @TheGameBench Před 3 lety

      @@-vishnu2948 Even though it's not a great lens, the 16-50mm kit lens would be a better option because it's lighter and has it's own stabilization. The Sigma 16mm is a spectacular lens, but it's best used on a tripod or for use in photography.

    I use an M50 and have been thinking about the 16mm Sigma lens for everyday usage, but I’m torn in trying to invest in a platform that doesn’t have much investment in the space. The M6 mark ii is a great new addition, but not many lenses. I’m mostly thinking I should be investing in EF full frame lenses since with the speed booster you have a bunch of options and you are future proof with using those lenses on a RF with adapter. I already have the canon adapter so a 50mm EF lens can be two focal lengths by just getting a speed booster.
