Super nice wrestling room/training center for wrestlers. Its not too often you see a blessing like this in our sport.
A nice presentation by Tom, I watched him wrestle as a freshman in Carver. Met him 5 years ago, a completely dedicated coach, to all Hawks, Joe Woodell

I wonder if the men and women will ever practice at the same time? Or even practice with one another in a combined workout?
That would be great for both teams and with 6 mats they have the space to get 2 full teams on ther.
What benefit would the guys have of wrestling the women? Also the women wrestle freestyle
Facilities are good but that was before NIL. The “arms race” for the biggest and best facilities across all sports was the rage 5-10 years ago……need to couple with a robust NIL to make the program attract top talent. Iowa needs to build their NIL partners to grow that resource pool to compete for top talent.
More time showing off weight room etc. I saw one about a team out east & it was impressive. They aren't even a top 15 team.
I guess you earn a new facility for finishing 5th at nationals. ???
You earn it by being one of the most storied wrestling programs in history lol.

Is nobody else worried about the mats being right beside the weight room with no barrier? Looks like an accident waiting to happen. Someone could easily be driven off the mat into weight racks.
with all that mat space I am sure they will be able to avoid the edges, or maybe get some sort of foam to cover the hard metal??

So this is where Brands will run down his wrestlers and get them tired lethargic for March.
Rumor is they gotta split it 50/50 with the women’s program and the women’s program didn’t do any of the leg work.

Why should they feel obligated too? This project was most likely in the works years before women’s wrestling was included at Iowa. They were our guests before and are now the #1 women’s wrestling school in the country. Trust me when I say Iowa is honored to let them use the facility.
@@matt6619 the rumor is brands isn’t happy about it. Men’s team raised all the money and did all the hard work and they’ve gotta split time.
I get his gripe. The old men’s facilities are more than adequate.
Tom I think has bigger fish to fry than to worry about sharing time with the girls. I mean who freakin cares in the grand scheme of things. Let this facility make the Team and recruiting efforts better. get that National Title back. That’s all I care about.
Women’s program is way better. They should not have to split time with the men. They can practice somewhere else. When and if they do improve, perhaps then they can strike a deal with the women to use the facility, when the women are not practicing.
I’m glad to see a wrestling program get attention, but this place looks underwhelming. I guess that’s fitting to the university

They could have 47 of these buildings but it won’t change the fact wrestling in Iowa is being taught suited for 1985.
From the first sentence of this content, Tom is hardly EVER in a good mood and seems to almost justify an old style approach to a sport that he is clearly 20 years behind, in regard to his training regimen. The wrestling room ITSELF fits Tom to a tee, it’s dark with no light in sight.
His biggest competition just got their best ON PAPER recruiting class ever, and Tom doesn’t know how to close that 100+ point team score gap.
