I'm not an avid gamer. At 42, I have kids / teens who play the Switch, but I just can't immerse myself in modern gaming. However, I was one in the 1980s and 1990s and I still own all of my games. On occasion, I'll turn on my SNES and play for a few hours, and I always have my go-to games:
Super Mario World is my all time favorite game.
Mega Man X blew my mind as a kid.
Donkey Kong Country 2 improved upon the original in every way.
Super Mario RPG is a game I used to play through in its entirety every year when I was a young adult.
Final Fantasy IV is my favorite title in the franchise. I'm currently playing through it again.
Tetris Attack is the best puzzle game on the SNES.
Kirby's Dream Course is so unique - there's nothing else like it.
Super Bomberman 2 has a great story mode and the multiplayer mode is still enjoyable even when playing against CPU's.
Super Castlevania IV is such a satisfying entry to play in the franchise. That whip...
Turtles In Time. What more can I say?
Smart Ball is my guilty pleasure since it was the first video game I ever rented.
This list isn't mean to be a showcase of my awareness of the greatest titles the SNES has to offer, because there are certainly objectively better games out there. On those rare days where I do plug in the SNES to play for a spell, it's almost a guarantee I will choose one of these titles to play first. Of course I love Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda ALTTP, Super Metroid, etc. but my nostalgia pulls me towards these games over even the better ones most of the time.

@lifespanofafry1534 I've played most of Mario Odyssey and some Breath of the Wild. I just can't sit down for long periods of time to play games anymore. I'm 42, I'm married with 3 kids and 3 acres of land to manage (plus a full time job that requires me to travel at times). Not enough hours in the day to play much anymore.

Still the best pure gaming console of all time imo.
Also, Street Fighter II Turbo goes up to 10 stars on SNES too: "After the Capcom logo disappears on the opening credits, press Down, R, Up, L, Y, B on controller 2".
I honestly thought this was common knowledge in gamer circles at this point. You know, just like how you actually have to enter a cheat to get blood in the Genesis' version of Mortal Kombat, as it's also not something that's turned on by default there.
And, possibly similarly relevant here, you might additionally not be aware there were SNES controllers with 6 buttons on the front like the Hori Fighting Commander gamepad, and best-in-class arcade fight sticks like the C&L Championship Joystick for SNES too. Both are perfect additional controller options if you need as close to an arcade control setup as possible for your Mortal Kombat II and Street Fighter II marathons.
The default 6-button controller that comes standard in the box for every SNES owner is still brilliant for fighting games already though--just have to be clear on that.
By the way, you seem to make using that SNES controller a lot harder than it actually is at times. In Mario Kart for example, you can just rock your thumb around to hit most buttons, or simply move it over for a moment to press the A button to use items, ya know.
Yeah, the later levels in Super Mario World get longer, or certainly harder, at least for me.
Addicting SNES games that keep me coming back:
    Super Mario World
    Yoshi's Island
    Super Smash TV
    F-Zero
    Street Fighter II
    Street Fighter II Turbo
    Super Metroid
    A Link to the Past
    Super Aleste
    Parodius Da!
    U.N. Squadron
    Super Punch-Out!!
    Super Tennis
    Super Bomberman 2 (2-player)
    Turtles in Time
    Star Fox
    Contra III
    Pocky & Rocky
    Donkey Kong Country
Super Ghouls n' Ghosts (patched to fix the slowdown)
    Legend of the Mystical Ninja
    Killer Instinct
    Super Castlevania IV
    Super Mario All-Stars
    Wild Guns
    ActRaiser

    • @inceptional
      @inceptional Před měsícem +1

@@GregsGameRoom I would say yes in principle, but only if you're actually using a controller designed for that way of playing, like the C&L Championship Joystick for SNES for example.
The SNES controller is specifically designed for you to hold your right thumb over the main diamond face button arrangement and then move it around or rock it to press all the various buttons and standard button combinations on the face there. It's literally demonstrated pictorially like this in some of the instruction manuals (can't recall which ones).
With Super Mario World for example, you're kinda supposed to rest the tip of your thumb on the Y button, so you can hold it down to run and grab items and such, and then rock it down to press the pad of your thumb on the B button to jump at the same time. If you don't do that it's actually a lot harder to keep running at full speed when you then went to press to jump as well. You'd have to literally remove your finger from holding run/grab to press jump without using the rocking method. Well, unless you're using the crab grip or whatever it's called, or something like that. :-o
Of course, it's a free world, so each person can obviously use it however they want and prefer. I'm just sharing some thoughts on that. :)

If Super Famicom games count then I could see myself getting addicted to Super Bombliss, it's a Tetris variant, I played it a bit but as with many Tetris type games the rules are a bit unclear compared the purity of proper Tetris, still fun though. Smash TV looks like one of those "just one more go" kind of games, I've been meaning to play it for almost 30 years now

Metal Warriros, I had to buy myself a repro cart as it's more of a rare game that costs a fortune to buy original. (Of course I can go the emulator route but nothing beats the real thing. And I still have my SNES from 1991 with a bit old CRT TV.
Metal Warriors has an awesome 2 player battle mode which is super addictive. Specially on stages with many available mechs as you can press select, escape and fly to another if your buddy didn't find and slaughter them or you first.
My other game is one that no one know or cares about. Metal Combat for the super scope 6. You finish it once, you get another gunner that has a big difference in gameplay. You also unlock a difficulty level pick. Low Med and Hard... and Hard is beyond hard. Medium is a good balance of hard... very addicting at that point.
It also has a 2 player mode where your buddy controls the bad guy using the controller... the there is at least 8 completely different mechs for controller use with so many awesome moves and ways to shoot at you. Awesome game.
I found this video of an epic Metal Combat round on Hard just to give you an idea.

@@bruciekibbutz2947 Yeah, it's kinda funny how someone can make the SNES controller seem complicated. And it's 100% not awkward to use if it's being held properly. In fact, it's the best gamepad of that generation with over two buttons for actually being able to easily rock or lift your thumb across to all the other face buttons very easily and intuitively. The diamond-shaped face button layout is precisely why a game like Super Smash TV is so great to control with a single thumb on SNES. And there's a reason much of this controller's design has become the defacto standard in all modern controllers. Nintendo absolutely nailed it with the SNES controller, especially as the pack-in one that every single SNES owner got as standard. Best in class--no doubt at it.

Love your vids but I get triggered every time you say "addicting" instead of "addictive". 😆

Hmm, well I Don’t think necessarily that RPG’s can be addicting. Maybe I’m wrong. I just don’t think there’s that addicting element. Sure, it can pull you in and suck you in, but as far as addicting RPG… I don’t know really.

Batman is very boring. Not addictive. I was squirming in my seat wanting it to stop. Battletoads. Best western beat-em-up ever? 5/5 - not tempted there. Puzzle Bobble I tried and got to level 100 without losing a life before I got bored. Tried it on hard and died instantly. Final Fight isn't fun. Worst port of Puyo Puyo. MK2 colour me bolwed over you dissed the snes controller and slow laggy game system. Ninja Warriors Return is a beat em up, unlike the titular original, which is shooting. I prefer the original, the Natsume game gets repetitive and you turn it off for that reason. Sim City. Ok... Not even a good version. Starfox is a game? I though it was a proof of concept that was rejected for being almost nothing...
I respect the effort with Alien v Predator but I think that was best glossed over. I know some gems on the snes but they are not proper games, they are snes games, a subset of games that don't quite fit the criteria.
