  • In this video I replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator in a 2007 BMW 328i e92. Not a difficult DIY, but recording the video does slow things down.

    Great stuff Dom, thank you. I replaced mine today and this video was key. 2008 E91. Took about an hour. I had a micro crack in the dome of the FPR. It's a common issue. Driver side left side rear smelled of gas. A look underneath showed some gas stains. Not drips but wet. A couple of important notes:
    1. I bought the special tool on Amazon for $25 to remove the metal ring. I still had to bang it a few times and put some WD40 in to loosen it up before I could get it to move. I bought the FPR from FCP Euro.
    2. It's a pressure system, so remember to run the car until it dies AFTER you disconnect the wires, before you disconnect the fuel lines. Have a throwaway towel ready it will spill a bit when 1st removed on FPR side.
    3. I drove the car down to about 1/16 tank before starting. Definitely helps.
    4. Wear gloves and goggles. Gas in the eye is not good. White vinegar removes gas from hands.
    Any questions, just reach out.

      Thank for the info. this vid and what you said gave me a better understanding of how this works, but could I seal the little hole on top of the regulator, or does it have to be replaced?

    Thank you so much for a wonderful clear video footage. I have BMW650I 2007 and had the regulator replaced three years ago. Unfortunately the smell is back Lately noticed pretty bad smell outside. Maybe because the heat doesn’t help rather than cold climates. Love the clarity of the footage and steps taken.

    The grey security connector on the top of the fuel filter/regulator assembly was the hardest part for me. And that grey connector got damaged, and now it won't hold the hose in. I'm looking to buy a new connector now from bmw, and unfortunately that will take a few days.

    Great video, but I have a question. Since the leak is due to bad O rings, can you just replace the rings only? Thanks!

    I have an e92 M3 and I’m having trouble starting the car in the morning. It takes a little longer than it should. I did notice a very small gasoline smell (Outside) after driving it in the canyons but only near the rear left tire, nowhere else. Would you have any idea of what it could be?:/
    By the way, my car is catless
    Thank you in advance!

    Would a small crack in the white plastic part of the fuel pressure regulator likely cause an evap leak (P0442)?

  • @PhoenixWoody
    @PhoenixWoody Před 2 lety

    How could you be sure it was the lines inside the tank? It seems that the drivers side connection at the top was leaking. Did you start the car and watch the leak?

  • @stefanmv
    @stefanmv Před 2 lety +3

    Question, that plastic ring that the metal locking/screwing ring goes in to, did you replace it, and is it a full solid circle/ring or is it cut..mine was leaking gas from the regulator side, and I cant tell if it was due to the plastic ring being snapped (or the ring is supposed to be with a cut in it) or if fuel was leaking from a micro crack on top of the dome where the fuel line connects.

    I still have no idea why he did this job. He smelled gas and so determined that he had a bad Regulator?? What? How could he know that form smelling gas. Did he have a bad hose coming out of it to the outside?

    • @DomiY
      @DomiY  Před 2 lety +1

      The odor of fuel in the cabin is a common factor of a faulty/leaky regulator in these vehicles. At minute 5:48, I show the fuel collecting on top of the regulator which confirms the fault. At minute 18:28 I explain how I zip-tied the three connecting hoses and passed them through to the other side. They are rigid enough that I didn't need anything to act as a lead when passing them through.

    • @bftsauto3196
      @bftsauto3196 Před 4 měsíci

      The seals on the regulator tend to deteriorate over time and that causes leakage. Fuel will then leak from the top ring to the outside of the tank and that’s most likely when you will start smelling fuel.

    If the smell only comes from the engine bay through the AC vents can the regulator and or pump can be ruled out as the problem? No smell when AC is in recirculating mode.
