Float Fishing And Fly Fishing for Bass At Folkestone Warren | Sea Fishing UK

  • So for this session I decided to change things up a little and instead of heading to the beach with 2 big, cumbersome rods, with rigs, bait etc etc, I went light a took 2 rods at the lighter end of the arsenal. I equipped myself with a fly rod and a very light float rod to try and catch some Bass down at Folkestone Warren. The alarm was set for 5am, I had a bucket full of live prawns so everything was looking good. when I arrived the wind was slightly in my face and made fly fishing a bit difficult but as soon as i switched to the float rod I found a fish. It was enjoyable short session and really nice to get a bend in the rod.

    You're some fisherman Greg, watching you reminds me, as a young lad, fishing with a home made rod off Strood Pier totally addicted but without the knowledge that you have gained. Love watching your videos from Kent, my old stomping ground from fishing down at the Strand ( we used to go to the paddling pool and occasionally a swim in the open air pool, always bloody freezing cold. Moved to Sheppey and fished all over so you can imagine why i watch all your videos. Best wishes from an old man of Kent Greg.

    I think you got your tactics spot on. You would have been overcasting them with a lure, and that long rod meant you could stay well back from the edge. Great bit of fishing there.

    Few nice bass this session Greg , well done , nothing better than catching fish on bait you've foraged yourself . I saw the vid in the rock pool, plenty of prawns zippin about ,Great vid 👍🎣

    Hi greg, cheers for the watch . Pleased you caught some bass. I don't float fish as a rule usualy but looks great fun and like you said just mixing it up a little. Look forward to your next session. All the best from Grimsby.

      You should definitely try float fishing Carl. Sometimes the catch rate is vastly improved under a float👍 great fun tho

    I always use prawn on a 1 up 1 down rig worm on the top and prawn on the bottom works well but I can see the float fished prawn would be effective I see lots of big bass on Brighton marina coming to float fished prawn

    Great Video, well produced, Thank you! Might seem a bit of a stupid question for most but how, when & where do you actually catch shrimps to use for your fishing? Thanks.

    • @gsp
      @gsp  Před rokem +1

      Well, i do it the hard and long winded way because I enjoy it. I go to the rockpools and net them out individually but you could just buy a prawn trap/net and drop it down in some deepish water near some structure and get some prawns

    How snaggy is folkestone Warren please any tips plz ?

    • @gsp
      @gsp  Před rokem +1

      It depends, there are snaggy areas and there are clean areas. I don't know all of them but you can fish comfortably off the concrete apron as you get down there and then it's hit and miss. We'll worth fishing tho👍

    Never found circle hooks very effective for float fishing, reckon the hookup rate is pretty poor. The ISO rod looks fun though.

    What type of float do you use? Thanks

    • @gsp
      @gsp  Před 2 lety +1

      For iso fishing there are specific iso floats which I use. I order online and the come from Japan or Australia. If I was just wanting a good float for sea fishing I use these
