- I fully explain how to keep shiners alive and well. Also the basic tackle is covered, from the braided line to the weedless hooks and the reel with a clicker! Water temperature is the key to having the big bass bite. Rising temperatures are the best so as the day progresses, the temperatures rise and the big bass finally turn on!

Roland! I’ve never seen you shiner fish before! Way to change it up and look at that pig you caught. Good segment of fishing. Thanks for the info on your live well. Never heard of rock salt being effective. Good info. I love it when you get excited and the words, “son, that’s what I’m talking about”! Come out. Keep it up. I like this calmer style of fishing. We all like to hear you talk my man! God bless
One of my best fishing memories (and I have a lot) is shiner fishing on Lake Ockeechobee. My brother-in-law law and I left Roland Martin’s marina with Kevin Long for an amazing day. Dan and I both had PBs. His was 6 1/2#s. Mine was 5 1/2#s. Bigger then most fish at home. The final blessing was a double using our last 2 shiners. What a way to end the day. Thanks Roland for helping me relive that awesome day! God Bless!
Love your.videos. I am 66 year old Floridian. Used to grow sweet corn I'm Belle Glade and spent my free time fishing the big lake. I grew up on the St John's river Sanford. I met you at wingate's lunker lodge. I now grow tomatoes in Faceville Georgia. Keep up the good work i appreciate the videos I have lot good memories fishing around Florida. I still fish lake Seminole and some in gulf out of Panacea and Apalachicola.. keep your line tight old man I have been a fan a long time.
Just as awesome now as watching Roland was 30 years ago when I was a kid.
I've watched your videos for about 30 years, that was a big ol happy man with that big ol trophy 🏆bass, keep it up!!
Love your enthusiasm Roland! You are the GOAT for sure
He's the great American fisherman, he'll fish anywhere. Anywhere there's water you'll bet hell be there. He's just like a gypsy mighty hard to find. Great American fisherman got fishing on his mind :) at least what I remember. You the man. Forever legend. :)
Mr. Martin I watch a lot of CZcams videos, but you have definitely become my favorite. I get excited every time I see a video posted. God bless buddy!
Good video Mr Martin. Take care of your bait and your bait will take care of you. Looking forward to big fish. It’s almost time
Thanks for another great day on the water...in January!! You’re the bass wizard, Roland!! Enjoy each day!!!
Nice bass Roland. Yeah, guys who refuse to use wild golden shiners from late November through April here in Florida, are simply cheating themselves out of the total trophy and double digit bass they would catch in a lifetime, pure & simple. Very seldom do I go shiner fishing here during good fishing conditions between those months where I "fail" to catch 1 or several in the 7 lb range at least. And quite often bass of 8 to 10+. Multiple double digit fish in a single day is fairly common with some local knowledge and a little luck. December of 2018, I took a 9.5 on a shiner, then only 15 minutes later in the same area, I got another weighing 8.5 on a grass jig. Talk about the best of both worlds. I love tossing lures of all types while shiner fishing at the same time. Getting double struck on 2 separate shiner rigs PLUS another on a lure all at the same time is common too.......I did it just last month. Talk about having your hands full, lol.
Ronald Martin is the Bob Ross of fishing. Change my mind.
Roland, Would love a video on the knot used for the balloon. Maybe just a “What’s happening” but I noticed it slips. I know I’ve used the knot but can’t remember the name. Just and idea. Thank you for being on CZcams! So glad to find You, Jimmy, Scott and others! Been watching you on here for several years and I’ve really learned a lot and have been able to use the info to help my friends and family and myself to catch fish and there’s NOTHING better than that! Appreciate your passion, thank you!
These videos have played a large role in our decision to move to Florida
Thanks Roland. Learned much from this video.
Nice video Roland, love that shiner fishing. you never know when that monster will come.
Love how you still get excited while bass fishing.
Thanks Roland
Love your videos Roland!! Love shiner fishing!!
I have faithfully watched for 2+ years and I still learn something new from you every video. You are a treasure and I am so happy you are recovering so well.
Hey Roland, I've done some shiner fishing for big bass right outside Vero Beach, FL. Lots of fun. Thanks for sharing.
That’s one hell of a great show sir 💪💪
Good stuff Roland! 👊🏼💯🇺🇸
So good to see you back fishing my friend! 🎣🐟
I fished a small lake behind my parents home in venice FL. Years ago and used shiners that we caught in the lake. I was impressed at the size of some of the fish I caught in such a small lake. I’d love to do this again. Thanks for the video! 🇺🇸
Roland, you still say “Water” like a true Marylander. I like it!
Same type of technique we use here in northern Australia for barramundi we use mullet as live bait. The most key important thing we have found to catch the barramundi that are slow an the weather is bad is stuff. Is on live bait. But to really get them while they are moody an don’t wanna eat a key is to really look after the bait. I guess some people don’t understand how much a great looked after bait will be presented to the fish sooo amazingly better an look so more natural an smell natural!!!!! Great tips an some little key secrets. So important to have Well looked after live bait to catch them quality big fish when they arnt to keen on anything else or very active at all!! Big fish are smart. An the more natural an well looked after bait is definitely worth it!
I used shiner fish a lot caught hundreds of 9 and 10lb bass haven't been able catch shiners and drifted away from it. It's a lot of fun and a good way catch big ones. You can catch big shiner s with small hook and a dough ball or wadded up bread up.bread. you can bait them with bread, fish pellets or hog ration. Do not be afraid to use big shiner the bigger the better to catch a giant.
Congrats..... That's one nice 8 pounder......I love the videos.....
I still have the book " Advanced shiner fishing techniques" by Glen Hunter that has Roland in it!
I appreciate all the knowledge you share with us thank you Roland
You're AWESOME Roland!
Pretty awesome fish !!!!
Always exciting Roland!
Great watching you fish the shinners.....thank you.
nice catch Mr. Martin! excited to down here in south florida now full time
Great show! Love your channel sir
Great video
Great fish
Shiners are expensive . I’d love to see how you catch them! Great fish, Roland!
Nice bass Roland!!
That looks like a blast. You gonna publish your book again. Had a copy loaned it out never got it back.
Ding dong.......hello.......Im here for the book I lent you! Lol!!!!!!!
👍👍 it's on my bucket list
Nice video 🙏🏾
Love the video’s 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love you Roland!
Here in South Africa we also very warm water in summer months and very cold water in winter months. They are also not used to extreme changes in water temperature making catching them hard.
I watched you catching giant bass on shiners many years ago.
That was cool. Hey how about showing us how and where you catch shiners? Not talking about the bait shop though. Ha Ha.
Wow would I like to be on the back of your boat right now Roland. I’ll take January in Florida rather than Pa any. Day .
Even if you’re a die hard lure fisherman. Live shiners is a fun way to fish. Use a straight shank circle hook and start reeling as soon as the bobber goes down. Fish without teeth inhale the bait. Quit wasting your time waiting for the bobber to stay down. If you’re not hooking up the bass is too small for the bait
@Tom Miller you obviously know nothing about bass fishing. You hav to know the basics before you start
@Tom Miller my dad can beat up your dad
Nice 🏃♂️ Roland
Hard to beat an active shiner bite. The last one was really nice!! Looked like 8 to me!!
It would be cool if you would maybe do a fishing with Roland day give away. That would be a great day to me.
Armed hooligans and corona virus can't stop Mr. Martin.
Looks like a fantastic way to spend a day in January. Fun fishing for sure, but I couldn't help but notice @13:50 the line didn't go through the first guide. I hate it when that happens!
introduce your camera man to us Martin!
That a Tank there!!!!!
GOAT !!!
Wish you could release these again as shorts
Hey Roland. What kind of strike indicator are you using? The yellow one looks like a balloon. Can you talk a little bit about your rig?
Thanks for all the videos.
give ya the 8 young man😁
Hay Roland are you going to fish the elite series this year
I hope you do I’d love to see you winning tournaments again
Since shiners are a fresh water fish species, I presume the salt causes an osmotic stress on them, to which they produce more slime as a defense mechanism against water loss through diffusion across their skin? Is that why their mucus layer increases in salt water? I'd think so...
Cool video Roland. Do you have catfish there? What you're doing reminds me of catfishing
Hello, I'm called the (Eight Rodd Banditt) 🎣 but my real name is Cory, thanks you the video's!
What is the yellow ballon for a bobber?
I saw that the rod you used was The Big Sexy by Favorite. What action is the rod and what pound test you are using?
Now. When it comes to bass fishing with wild shiners , the North Florida Angler is very hard to top,,,
What action rod are you using?
Hey Roland , do you remember your first 10lb bass
What rate of O2 do you use Roland?
It's a pediatric regulator set at 1/16
@@RolandMartinOutdoors Thank you!
That place might eventually have a record bass in it. Only thing that will save them from thermal burn out is the enhanced area's deep water. Crossing my fingers someone breaks the record there!
At 6:23 mark there is a dead tree. I caught a 9/12 right under that tree in May 2020. Not a bad spot.
🇩🇴
Roland like me, always gets bit on the rod he’s not holding.
Roland's shiners are about the average size bass I catch! LOL
Are you native American Roland?
8-pound bass
I'm sure worried about what happened, today.
SON!!! That's probably a 20 pounder
