As a Berkeley graduate, I have to say that I would prefer to attend UCLA today. UCLA's rapid growth in academics, funding, and brand recognition, combined with its prime location, makes it a compelling choice. While Berkeley benefits from its proximity to Silicon Valley, the tech scene is increasingly shifting towards the LA area, now known as Silicon Beach, and Austin, TX. Given these trends, I believe UCLA will continue to strengthen its position over the next decade.
Berkeley is renowned for its academic rigor, often ranked higher than Ivy League schools, but this can create an unnecessarily competitive and challenging environment. My experience was very toxic, horrible when it comes to grades.
While it’s still an impressive institution, the culture can be quite intense, with students frequently competing rather than supporting one another. Nevertheless, Berkeley remains an excellent school. Congratulations and best of luck-you’ll certainly need it!
Congrats! UCs are literally such a lottery! I got waitlisted by UCSD, UCSC, UCR, UC Davis, rejected by Cal, UCLA, UCI, UCSB, and I didn't apply to merced(but they still accepted me after regular decision round ended cuz I didn't get into any UC at the end of may). But I ended up getting in to ucsd and ucr via waitlist!
Yeah especially as a freshmen while the odds are insanely high for transfers which is insane
