Its not lacking track control buttons, theres no buttons at all! just tap the top of the speaker with the palm of your hand to pause/play. Double palm tap it to play the next song and triple palm tap it to play the previous song.

A lot of people can't imagine that the sound is coming out from this speaker ! So loud and clear! Yes , expensive but the battery , the waterproof and shockproof functionality , the design and solid feel, and the ability to be controlled from the application, made this speaker one of the best products in this category ! I love it when i wake up , open the application and start the megaboom just from my phone ! Also the equalizer is a big plus ! This speaker is truly amazing!

I have that thing. Its really portable, durable, and it sounds good. I just got the JBL Xtreme. While its big and sounds better than the Megaboom, its not as portable as the Megaboom and not waterproof (its splashproof). I'll more likely have the Megaboom when I travel and the JBL Xtreme at home.
I just got one of these things for Christmas!! If you are on the fence of buying it, I say you definitely should. There is nothing better than this one in my opinion.

You actually can skip song (next song/previous song) by tapping the top of the speaker. Not pressing anything! No buttons! Use your whole palm and just slam across the whole top of the speaker twice! its a hidden feature, that only works some of the time

if its not a bother, can you try playing it through auxillery and checking if its any different? i just recieved my megaboom and it sounds much lower in aux than on bluetooth yet the unit it self sounds outstanding.

Legit!! Bought one last weekend. Awesome sound and compared to JBL, Bose and other speakers, this one had the cleanest sound and bear mix of bass to treble. Can also double pair for large or multiple rooms. One thing I have not figured out yet is if I can pair this speaker with smart TV w Bluetooth capability.
lol, yeah it's got a high price tag, but unfortunately there isn't really anything out there that has and does what this sucker can, so we have to bite the bullet and pay the piper to get what we want sometimes, lol

Just getting on the UE bandwagon now, I believe you cap wack the top of the speaker once to play and pause, and twice quickly to skip the track. I've heard it's pretty iffy though, an you need to pick it up to do so.
Compared to the Bose Soundlink Revolve+, it simply sucks. Yes, I know, the Revolve+ is a lot newer, but the differences are very big: Stronger, waaaaay deeper bass (50 instead of 200Hz boosted) and better mids (the highs were already good on the Megaboom). Also, the Megaboom sounds extremely hollow, especially when having it in the car, and you almost only hear the boomy 200 Hz bass. And the Bose is also being pretty durable, although only splash- and not waterproof.
quick question..Why The UE Megaboom would cut off in the middle of songs while pairing up to a nexus 6 using the pandora one app? I know for a fact that the phone works with other speakers no problem, also I exchanged the UE megaboom twice just to make sure it wasn't defective. I went to best buy talked to Geek Squad and they couldn't figure it out. I really want to get the UE megaboom. Please let me know what choices DO I HAVE... if any. Thank you! LUCILA

Tyler Hussin it has tap controls if you pick it up for pausing and skipping forward a track, tapping once or twice. But honestly they don't work for crap so the charge 3 is the best for it's price and charging your phone and ACTUALLY being portable unlike the JBL Xtreme

Firection the stereo sound from 2 UE Boom 2's is awesome and the only downside sound quality-wise, since they work together really easily, is slightly less bass compared to the MegaBoom. but still more from the UE Boom 2's together than if you only played one UE Boom 2.

I've ordered it, sent it back two weeks after... It's simply not as good as I expected. especially not for the price for which I bought it, 300$... F.i: 20 battery life? Bullshit, at max volume I got about 2 hours, and then, the bass isn't there as much as I'd have hoped, sure, it's there, but f.i. the Jbl Xtreme has got more and better bass, more loudness, more quality, more clarity, better/more functions, more quality at max volume, etc. And if you'd drop the Megaboom from a high place into the pool, let's say, my balcony, 8 metres high... it might actually go about 4 metres (±12 feet) deep into my pool...Which my pool is, it will not survive, not even with the IPX7 rating. I'd recommend f.i. the Fugoo XL which sounds better than the Megaboom, is durable, is a good overall speaker, or the Jbl Xtreme, which is, like I said, also very good. I'm not telling you not to buy this speaker, but all I'm saying is that there are better speakers out there in the same category, so no hating comments on this. Again, I'm not saying it's an awful speaker, which it sure isn't, but I'm just saying that there are other options out there, which might be better for you.

Jorge Calderon 4.5 hours per charge vs 18+ hrs? Not as portable. Not as sturdy, can not be dropped in the pool. You clearly don't get the point of the UEmegaboom. The Quality is great and great sound. I rather pack a megaboom in my suitcase than the bulky Big Blue. It's a lot to pay for a speaker but you will get a lot of use out of it. I don't see you taking the Big Blue out in the water at the beach or on a massive hiking trip. All of those other speakers you mentioned are shame full to compare to the Mega Boom. There is clear.
shalnmunk I respectfully disagree. Unless you are going rock climbing, bike riding or hiking, the Big Blue Party is WAY WAY better in all respects. Cheaper ($200 right now until father's day 2015 vs $300 for the UE Megaboom), 100 times better sound, better construction. The Big Blue Party IS water resistant --so YES, you can take it to the beach (just, like with most electronics, don't submerge it under water). When I turn the LED lights off, I get over 8 hours playing time in full volume with one full charge which is plenty enough for most everyone. Sorry.
Jorge Calderon What are you sorry about? That 8 hrs is less than 20? If I am at the beach for more than 8 hrs and go home to continue the party at my pool I don't have to worry about recharging my speaker. Not to mention the big blue party states 4.5hrs not 8. Another inconvenience of the Big Blue Party is that it uses an AC adapter for recharge, vice the micro USB from the UE Megaboom. I use alot of portable recharges so the mico usb is easier as far as portability. You just proved my point and the point of the Reviewer. You only argument in a positive way is the sound quality. The big blue does have awesome sound quality, I have heard it over and over. But so does the UE MEGABOOM. But the Mega Boom is way more portable, durable, and can with stand more elements. I just hope no one kicks your Big Blue into the water ever.
Jorge Calderon Big Blue Party also only has a 33 ft range for bluetooth connection. That combined with a much lower battery life make it more suitable for home situations vs party situations that may require more flexibility.
I guess depends situations, UE MEGABOOM best is portablility factor. light weight longer battery life, but does not offer deep bass instead bootsed soft bass and great clarity of mid sound. Big blue party offer great range of sound with deep bass, really for party indoor or outdoor. It come with heavy weight and due to multiple drivers in it, cause shorten battery life. After all still depends personal preference. Guess you can't everything in one box.
If comparing I'd say both the Harmon and Marley have a much warmer sound to them, which I really really dig personally. But the MegaBoom let's you get louder audio, but at the sacrifice of clean sounds with as punchy bass as the others. At least to my ears anyways.
Yes Megaboom is louder and with 20hr battery life, 100ft bluetooth distance, water n dust proofing and plus comes in various colors the clear winner is UE Megaboom... I heard the Beatspill XL and I wasn't impressed w the audio quality cause at the higher volumes it sounded muffled n distorted while the Megaboom didn't... of course it can't match the volume of Bose Sounlink 3 but it's very close... also it has speaker phone and u can pair up to 11 at the same time...

Monty Brown also can make calls with it and use as a speakerphone while BOSE doesn't have that... the cable is fast chargin... i charged my phone a few times and the thing charge my phone in like 1.5hrs is crazy

Actually I haven't tested out the UE Boom. If the MegaBoom is any indication into quality of build and sound, then I suspect the Boom is more than satisfactory =)
The Sounlink mini is nice but the UE Boom is now $180 at Bestbuy... has 15hrs of battery, is water resistance while the Mini isn't, has speaker phone mini doesn't, comes in lots of colors... mini is limited, boom is louder... looks better and every1 will want one when they see it
I thought all the time that JBL extreme was better, I went to the stores many times, checking the bose, Beat, all of them, And the bad thing about JBL is that Music is not so clear, it makes more sound and more bass but the sound is not defined completely, many sound are lost of mixed, I investigate this for months, I almost buy the JBL, meanwhile the UE is very clear, Im pretty sure that UE is better than JBL, however the design of JBL is Better, but not the sound. James Webster purchased megaboom for 200 brand new. does not really mean the have tobe 300. just means they are 300 when they first came out. i think they are awesome for 200 not for 300.

LU BC it only works if the speaker is raised. You have to lift it up in one and and tap it with the other.

currently I use the Bose Soundlink 3. would this provide better sound quality? I use it around the house, or construction projects. My only care is the quality of the sound. can you compare those two and let me know which ones has the better sound.

Firection the stereo sound from 2 UE Boom 2's is awesome and the only downside sound quality-wise, since they work together really easily, is slightly less bass compared to the MegaBoom. but still more from the UE Boom 2's together than if you only played one UE Boom 2.

with the bass the jabra solemate is better but with the normal sound the ue boom is better. I have jabra solemate and that is my best choise

Oh man, that's a tough one... if memory serves me correctly, I think the Bose had a better sound profile, but just didn't get as loud as the MegaBoom

I've ordered it, sent it back two weeks after... It's simply not as good as I expected. especially not for the price for which I bought it, 300$... F.i: 20 battery life? Bullshit, at max volume I got about 2 hours, and then, the bass isn't there as much as I'd have hoped, sure, it's there, but f.i. the Jbl Xtreme has got more and better bass, more loudness, more quality, more clarity, better/more functions, more quality at max volume, etc. And if you'd drop the Megaboom from a high place into the pool, let's say, my balcony, 8 metres high... it might actually go about 4 metres (±12 feet) deep into my pool...Which my pool is, it will not survive, not even with the IPX7 rating. I'd recommend f.i. the Fugoo XL which sounds better than the Megaboom, is durable, is a good overall speaker, or the Jbl Xtreme, which is, like I said, also very good. I'm not telling you not to buy this speaker, but all I'm saying is that there are better speakers out there in the same category, so no hating comments on this. Again, I'm not saying it's an awful speaker, which it sure isn't, but I'm just saying that there are other options out there, which might be better for you.
compared to the jbl Xtreme, the UE Megaboom sounds like a toy.

The next best in sound quality is the Marshall Stanmore which costs twice as much ($400), has only 3 speakers and it is not outdoor much less water resistant.
The third best in sound quality is in between the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio and the Bose SoundLink III.
In short.... NONE of the other 5 speakers I tested came close to the sound quality of my Big Blue Party speaker. I love it. I use it around the pool, when camping, in the park, in my truck (which only has the stock radio), in my hotel (when I travel), you name it....
Jorge Calderon 4.5 hours per charge vs 18+ hrs? Not as portable. Not as sturdy, can not be dropped in the pool. You clearly don't get the point of the UEmegaboom. The Quality is great and great sound. I rather pack a megaboom in my suitcase than the bulky Big Blue. It's a lot to pay for a speaker but you will get a lot of use out of it. I don't see you taking the Big Blue out in the water at the beach or on a massive hiking trip. All of those other speakers you mentioned are shame full to compare to the Mega Boom. There is clear.
shalnmunk I respectfully disagree. Unless you are going rock climbing, bike riding or hiking, the Big Blue Party is WAY WAY better in all respects. Cheaper ($200 right now until father's day 2015 vs $300 for the UE Megaboom), 100 times better sound, better construction. The Big Blue Party IS water resistant --so YES, you can take it to the beach (just, like with most electronics, don't submerge it under water). When I turn the LED lights off, I get over 8 hours playing time in full volume with one full charge which is plenty enough for most everyone. Sorry.
Jorge Calderon What are you sorry about? That 8 hrs is less than 20? If I am at the beach for more than 8 hrs and go home to continue the party at my pool I don't have to worry about recharging my speaker. Not to mention the big blue party states 4.5hrs not 8. Another inconvenience of the Big Blue Party is that it uses an AC adapter for recharge, vice the micro USB from the UE Megaboom. I use alot of portable recharges so the mico usb is easier as far as portability. You just proved my point and the point of the Reviewer. You only argument in a positive way is the sound quality. The big blue does have awesome sound quality, I have heard it over and over. But so does the UE MEGABOOM. But the Mega Boom is way more portable, durable, and can with stand more elements. I just hope no one kicks your Big Blue into the water ever.
Jorge Calderon Big Blue Party also only has a 33 ft range for bluetooth connection. That combined with a much lower battery life make it more suitable for home situations vs party situations that may require more flexibility.
I guess depends situations, UE MEGABOOM best is portablility factor.

Big blue party offer great range of sound with deep bass, really for party indoor or outdoor. It come with heavy weight and due to multiple drivers in it, cause shorten battery life.
After all still depends personal preference. Guess you can't everything in one box.

What about comparing it to House of Marley or the Harmon Kardon
If comparing I'd say both the Harmon and Marley have a much warmer sound to them, which I really really dig personally. But the MegaBoom let's you get louder audio, but at the sacrifice of clean sounds with as punchy bass as the others. At least to my ears anyways.

Vince De boer by a grain of sand the Xtreme is a bit better not cause of the sound quality it's cause it's a power bank that can charge up to 2 Phones

Yes Megaboom is louder and with 20hr battery life, 100ft bluetooth distance, water n dust proofing and plus comes in various colors the clear winner is UE Megaboom... I heard the Beatspill XL and I wasn't impressed w the audio quality cause at the higher volumes it sounded muffled n distorted while the Megaboom didn't... of course it can't match the volume of Bose Sounlink 3 but it's very close... also it has speaker phone and u can pair up to 11 at the same time...

Monty Brown also can make calls with it and use as a speakerphone while BOSE doesn't have that... the cable is fast chargin... i charged my phone a few times and the thing charge my phone in like 1.5hrs is crazy

Actually I haven't tested out the UE Boom. If the MegaBoom is any indication into quality of build and sound, then I suspect the Boom is more than satisfactory =)
The Sounlink mini is nice but the UE Boom is now $180 at Bestbuy... has 15hrs of battery, is water resistance while the Mini isn't, has speaker phone mini doesn't, comes in lots of colors... mini is limited, boom is louder... looks better and every1 will want one when they see it

I thought all the time that JBL extreme was better, I went to the stores many times, checking the bose, Beat, all of them, And the bad thing about JBL is that Music is not so clear, it makes more sound and more bass but the sound is not defined completely, many sound are lost of mixed, I investigate this for months, I almost buy the JBL, meanwhile the UE is very clear, Im pretty sure that UE is better than JBL, however the design of JBL is Better, but not the sound. James Webster purchased megaboom for 200 brand new. does not really mean the have tobe 300. just means they are 300 when they first came out. i think they are awesome for 200 not for 300.
