The 'Merlion' is a cross between a mermaid and a lion. It is the national symbol of Singapore.
And, yes, if people have only limited time in Singapore they should focus on the attractions around Marina Bay. There's lots to see there, including the breath-taking but expensive rooftop bar at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
For shopping and fashions, go to Orchard Road, which is now massive.
Good hotels in Singapore are not cheap. You won't get anything decent for less than $150 to $175 AUD or SGD per night. A night at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel can easily set you back $600 USD.

I think they need to protectvtheir eyes if under the sun, not good for bein exposed as it can cause early eye diseases like cataract and glaucoma at so early age.
that is usually the place to go for a ship due for a refit.and that is the last port i have been after finishing my contract working as a production assistant in a cruise ship last march 2019.and also the ship last voyage and what the most crews called it A HOME AWAY FROM HOME.such a memorable place to celebrate with friends before going back to PH.good times indeed.

Missing the food in Singapore. Check all the neighbourhood if you have the time - Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Tiong Bahru, Joo Chiat, Little India, Bugis...etc

Singapore is very particular w/cleanliness but look at their landwater.

welcome to SG! i would suggest Chomp Chomp Food market ( in Serangoon area ) its abit in the heartlands of Singapore. please try their BBQ stingray and Sugercane juice! alongside perhaps a Hokkien mee and BBQ wings ( with the chili and Small Calamansi lime ) ! Please note that its a Night time food area so its start around after 6.30 to 7 evening. also consider eating a mix of food dishes from the Chinese/Malay/Indian food! lastly Mince Meat noodle with Extra Vinegar! Most hawker have it!
miss Singapore, specially the food 😕. Used to visit it frequently on business in the 90s. Haven’t been back in 25 years!

Next city we are going. How do you get around? How did you get on the rock in the first place to get out of it?
We walked or used Grab and got taxis, also used the train/metro system! To get onto the rock you jump on it 😂😂 but don’t fall in like we did
Totally loved the place last time we were there. Hawker food is top notch. There's something about watching your food being cooked by an auntie or uncle that makes it an experience.

I tried Hawker Chan here, and I wasn't a fan. I do wonder if it tastes different in Singapore though, usually the case isn't it.

The old name of singapore was temasek during the johor sultanate rule. Later the malay name of singapura was used. Singa means lion in malay.

I called it BS. Singapore is far from the world's best city. The city is overrated, not that interesting culturally, historically, or in any other context. It's a bland city that's overpriced and over-regulated.

@@dabbleandtravel Thanks for making this video. I have travelled to at least 30 countries, and many hundreds of cities, Singapore is one of the least appealing. I appreciate you sharing but Singapore has very little appeal. It doesn’t have the exuberance of other Asian countries, the history, or the culture. America and Europe far exceed anything here, same as many other Asian countries.
