Man I couldn't get enough of these shows as a kid. It didn't matter how bad they were, I consumed all video game material I could get my hands on.

This edition of 90s commercials is all about video games, and it's awesome! Good to see commercials of Paperboy, the Tiger handheld games, & the early commercial of Crossfire before the almighty jingle we know & love! The opening intro to Video Power is well worth the detour!

Good golly. I remember Video Power. The first season. I woke up early in the morning just to catch it. Then it got turned into a game show and I went back to sleep.

The moment I saw the video thumbnail I thought it would be from Video Power. Another show I loved from my childhood.

I never got to watch Video Power as I didn't know it existed, but only found out about it back in 2006-2007.

The "Growing Pains" and "Who's the Boss?" promos were v/o by Dan Deely and the upcoming promos during the end credits of "Video Power" were v/o by Marty "Superhost" Sullivan.

The most awkward commercial I ever saw during Video Power (not featured here) was for the community college courses for accordion and concertina repair because it was in "high demand". I'd see it at least once per episode.

Video Power and GamePro TV. Two examples of early 90s TV trying to cash in on rising video game popularity. As someone else mentioned, Video Power started out as a News/Review show, with the Power Team cartoon segments. Then came Season 2, where it was inexplicably reimagined as a game show where kids competed in games, and ran an obstacle course. As for GamePro TV, I mostly remember it featured J.D. Roth (the king of 80s children's TV shows) and some other guy whose name escapes me acting like Bill and Ted as they reviewed and talked about games. Even their theme songs were similar. But, being the gaming geek I was, I had to watch both, even though I knew even back then that I was dumber for it.

Even though it was on at 6:30 in the morning on WWOR channel 9 in New York, everyone I knew watched Video Power!! Thanks for keeping all the intros & outros!
That 2 sided Bo Jackson game always looked cool!
It sounds like the Shredder voice continued into the Auto Depot ad!

10:55 - This tip is wrong. You don't need to push any buttons to get unlimited weapons in Revenge of Shinobi. Just set it to zero, and wait 30 seconds. Now THAT'S Video Power!!

Video Power-this was before it was turned into the game show with"Johnny Arcade"(the guy seen inthe live-action segment)
Bo Jackson Baseball/Football-Bo knew everything back in the 90s(except Diddley LOL)

If I'm not mistaken, the background music in the "Video Power" introduction (while the kid was talking) was from the mid-'80s cartoon "Kidd Video."

I was born in Feb 1984 and I remember watching Video Power at 6 years old. I obviously couldn't understand THAT much of it, but I do remember being jealous of the kids who ran through the obstacle course at the end attaching games to a velcro suit. That was Video Power, right?

As a kid, even I was kind of confused as to why part of the power team included Big Foot, and some other obscure characters. The only one I really knew was the guy from Wizards and Warriors. Although he sure doesn't look like that in the game. Only on the box art. Something tells me all the creators did was look at the box art though.

No. Nintendo Power was an official magazine made by Nintendo and its first issue was around 2 years before this.

It's incredibly interesting and cool to see such high-concept, high-budgeted early 90's commercials for NES games here, let alone third-party ones. Makes me wonder if "Mother" ended up getting a Western release and what *those* commercials would of been like. Would of released WAY too close to the SNES release for it to happen, though, but the mind still wonders.
1989-1992 seemed like a fun time. I was alive for just 2 of those and too tiny to be aware of much, myself, but still interesting!

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  Před 6 lety

1989-1992...if you were a kid at least... felt like the apex of human culture and civilization. I guess that's an exaggeration, but when I stop to think about it...it doesn't seem like it. It really felt like kids owned the world.
