  • A group of us #FolkRidingBikes headed North to Carlisle on the Saturday nearest to the summer solstice.
There we joined over a thousand other cyclists, and rode overnight to Cramond, just North of Edinburgh, for the Ride to the Sun.
100 miles in 8 hours of cycling, with 3 hours of stops.
There was a stop for food 40 miles in at Moffat; heading out of Moffat we climbed the Devil Beeftub, a seven (seven!!!) mile long hill. Almost at the top we hit the half-way point, marked with a piper to help with the last of the ascent.
Thankfully there was more down than up for the rest of the route, and at the Crook Inn there's a cycle rave and bananas, coffee and chance to restock on water.
We came through Edinburgh in the wee small hours and finally dropped down to the beach on the Firth of Forth at Cramond for a celebratory can of the local Stewart's Brewery "First world problems".
