  • Textile Artist, India Flint - author & the originator of the Ecoprint - chats about her sustainable and slow-stitched’ art work. India shares with us her ‘wandering daily stitch’ diary (her ‘river of cloth’) created with pre-loved textiles, botanical alchemy and stitch. The sound quality varies due to the nature of the exhibition space.
Each exhibition piece has been infused by place, marked by time and coloured with windfall leafs using ecologically sustainable plant dye methods. India produces a range of salvage clothing under the label ‘Prophet of Bloom' and has published several books explaining her processes - to find out more, see the links below. Filmed at The Festival of Quilts 2019.

India Flint, I love the stitching you do in your pieces, it makes such a lovely texture, Earthy, mysterious - Thank You for your books, teaching non-toxicity & awareness of plant extinctions

Wow what an amazing artist so authentic and she had some valuable illuminating points about not using toxic chemicals and being thoughtful about where you source your plants! Thank you India!

India, I love your books; you are marvelous and your cautionary message of conservancy is so important. I love to eco print from my yard and when I receive the occasional bouquet. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion.

    Thank you Indira,
Your work is amazingly beautiful and I love the slow stitching you add to the fabric. It makes it so unique. I recently did an eco dying workshop on paper, and I just loved it. I’m hoping to try it again, this time using cotton, linen, silk or wool, or hopefully all of them as I am just hooked! 😊🌼🌼🌼

Indias work is beautiful! I am definitely going to try this, as a background to hand stitching. Thank you.

I agree Vanessa, her work provides food for thought for stitchers. I use eco printing in my own work to subtly alter plain cotton cloth, for embroidery and patchwork. 😊.

Wonderful, really wonderful work. But what do you mean with the "originator of eco-prints" There are places like in Thailand that they have been studying and doing this for long time. And "History of Dyeing Fabrics: The art of dyeing clothing fibers originated in India or China no later than 2500 B.C. Most natural dyes came from parts of plants such as the bark, berries, flowers, leaves, and roots." So maybe a bit too much of marketing and grabbing far more than what it really is...
