Idunno, many times the highest biggest budget animations of people wich are supposed to look realistic have something that makes it unrealistic, like a pc trying to impersonate organic movements but this here...man, it nails it, tha "ramdom" micro movements, the streching pores and the flickering of the eyeballs, u just nailed it.
that's honestly scary. The expressions look so human. I can't find anything "off" with this model's expressions. Considering how well humans pick up on facial expressions and emotions that says a hell of a lot.

Yep. You can still tell there's obviously something going on with the way the expressions change, but the uncanny valley effect is pretty much gone since it looks like they finally got the deformation of the skin and textures down correctly.

I really like how you can see that this wasn’t animated as if it’s just clicking on preset expressions, but someone who’s trying to recreate them. Small ways that the person pauses in order to naturally look like each one
Its wonderful to see how this oversteps lot of the usual uncanny valley problems. The face never feels too blank and the eyes actually look like they have a soul behind them.

the only oddity is the teeth really and even those look really good just a bit uniform the face is just scary good
I'm creeped out thinking about the general idea that 3D actors will probably end up being indistinguishable from real actors. But just like you I don't feel creeped out because it looked human but a little off - no this actually looks like a guy painted in grey. Chris just dodged the uncanny valley.

One of the things that makes this seem so real is that the muscles, in transitioning from one expression to another, do not move smoothly but jitter, just as real eye motion is a series of broken fixations rather than an uninterrupted sweep. This effect, along with the asynchronous movement of reflected facial features, sells the idea that individual muscles are contracting and relaxing beneath the skin. This is something I have seen done by animation studios (such as Marvel) but not with such success. You are clearly studied in the movements of the human face.
The first thing that broke reality for me were this figure's teeth. Once the camera zooms in and pans to the exposed teeth, I realize I'm looking at a computer generated image. I think it could be the lack of translucency around the edges and lack of texture as a whole.
This was definitely mocapped but regardless that rigging is phenomenal

This looks absolutely insane, the way that the muscles twitch while holding poses looks incredibly realistic and the way that the skin pulls itself into wrinkles looks exactly how it would on a real person. Its incredible to think that this was made by just one guy using nothing but free software

The only thing that gave it away was actually how expressive the face gestures were, a normal human wouldn't exaggerate nearly as much lol (besides acting)
The first two are pretty accurate, not exaggerated. First one is someone that got unexpected results and second one is someone in pain or making a lot of strength.

@@yaoiloverstudio Same. I believe ehat gave it away was how PERFECTLY symmetrical the mouth was which in real life would be a little winky and it would twitch as they hold the facial expression because the face is experiencing an unexpected change in the surrounding muscles
No I think it's the detail that's overly drawn. Each wrinkle from the various expression was overly accentuated, making it realistic yet unrealistic at the same time.

@@waffler-yz3gw There’s a ton that can be done, we’re pretty close but still a lot to be done, especially with lightning and simulations, I just saw not too long ago a how we can create actual muscles inside of a model to create a simulation of skin flexing, it’s really impressive. One of the biggest setbacks from making this 100% however is lighting which is why a ton of CGI today looks pretty bad despite the advancements.

He's STILL USING his same computer from 2008, with the help of a surface pro 4. He's not even using fancy modern equipment... True passion right here.
It is very hard because these 3D renders need a lot of processing power.I have a decent PC but even then my application crashes when I try to make some large or realistic scenes.I can't imagine how much he suffers making these wonderful 3D renders on such outdated equipment.

@@Ozzianman They do briefly, but for the most part I figured there wasn't enough direct light to warrant it. In any case, there are far more glaring issues affecting realism than whether or not the pupils constrict/dilate.
